Chapter Twenty-Three

The air in the factory was cold and sharp as Logan breathed deeply. It pierced his lungs in an almost painful way. He blinked slowly as he inhaled once more. There was an uneasy energy surrounding this entire building. It was an energy that felt familiar in a strange way. He couldn't place it, but it felt like an old memory.

He shook his head and focused on the map in his hands. His three locations were fairly easy; one bomb in the west armory, one bomb in the north furnace room, and one bomb in the master quarters. He decided to head toward the armory first.

Logan was silent as he moved through the stone hallways of the factory. He moved swiftly, but not recklessly. Each time he came to a corner, he paused to check if his path was clear. As he'd predicted, there were few guards patrolling. Most of the people that Victor had sent here were likely forging weapons or out by the mountain draining it of the magic. He probably assumed that the odds of the facility being attack were low.

The odds are never zero though, he should've been more prepared, he thought as he slipped around a due of guards. I suppose it's fortunate for Patton and I though.

He found the armory easily, poking his head inside to check for guards. He spotted two of them talking by the wracks of spears against the far wall, and one directly in front of him with his back turned. Logan's eyes narrowed.

Keeping his gaze trained on the two that were talking, he sneaked up behind the guard before him. In the few moments that they turned away and laughed loudly, he clasped his hand over the guard's mouth and pulled him backwards to duck behind a wall. He held him still as he struggled. He tried to cry out, but Logan kept him silent until he passed out. He laid him down gently, peering around the wall to check on the other two.

"Oh, hey, where'd Smith go?" one of them said, gesturing to where their coworker had been.

The other shrugged. "Probably to grab a bite to eat, I know I'm starving so I don't blame him."

They turned their backs once more. Logan exhaled and drew his bow from his back. His movements swift and silent as he placed an arrow into position. He pulled the string back and aimed it at the leg of one of the guards. He inhaled and then let go.

Soaring through the air, the arrow found its mark, piercing the back of the guard's thigh. He gasped in pain. As the other guard moved to help him, Logan let another arrow fly directly into his shoulder. The two of them quickly fell unconscious. Father Time had shown him how to lace his arrows with different potions to use them to his advantage. They'd wake up extremely sore in a few hours; well they would if they weren't about to blow the entire factory up.

Logan moved quickly, heading toward the section of the armory where their explosives were stored. He placed it on top of their container, clicking the button on the side to prep it. It glowed with confirmation that it was active.

The intellectual young man hurried out of the armory and headed toward the north furnace room. It wasn't far from where he was now, and after a few minutes, he'd placed the second bomb. He was left heading toward his third and final bomb location: the master quarters. Logan supposed there were accommodations set up if anyone of high rank was staying at the facility. He assumed that he'd be placing the bomb in a master bedroom of some kind, but he doubted that anyone of high authority was currently present. The lax amount of security was an indication that he was right.

He sneaked into the master quarters, finding them to be exactly what he expected. He searched for the best place to plant the bomb, but was interrupted as a loud blaring alarm went off in the factory.

Logan's heart dropped in his chest as his breathing accelerated. Something had set off the alarm. He didn't have time to weigh the odds on whether Patton had been caught, the guard he hadn't shot had woken up, or that something else was going on. There was a loud noise filling the room and a swirling portal was appearing. He gasped and ducked into a hiding spot.

"-want this place locked down," a terrifying and sultry voice said. He peaked out, seeing a small group of people that had step out of the portal.

"Do we shoot to kill, or do we simply capture her, sir?" one of them asked.

The man in charge turned toward them. "Capture. I can't have her dying now, and she doesn't leave here, understood? Start searching every inch of this place. I want her back in her cell in my palace in an hour."

Patton, I hope you're done, we need to leave immediately, Logan thought to himself as the man he presumed was Victor Moriarty headed out of the room with his followers.

Moriarty stopped at the door and dismissed the others to start their search. Logan silently cursed, hoping that he'd go with them. He stayed put and watched as Victor turned to look around the room. "Interesting..." he muttered to himself. He closed the door and the began to slowly pace. His eyes scanned every inch of the room. Though Logan was concealed, he felt like he could see him. "I sense something, something I haven't sensed in many years... The Holder of the Watch of Time..."

"I killed him," he continued, a sickening grin spreading across his lips. "He stand a chance, and neither do you."

Logan felt his heart rate increasing. There was no way that Victor knew for sure that he was there. He could sense his magical presence, that was all. Thinking quickly, he squeezed his eyes shut and willed all the energy in the room to settle.

A stillness fell over it. Moriarty blinked slowly as he looked around once more. "Perhaps, it is merely my imagination," he murmured with a shrug.

There was suddenly a violent shaking in the lower part of the building. Victor's head snapped up and his grin returned. He left the room in a hurry, muttering to himself something that Logan couldn't make out. Once he was certain the coast was clear, he came out of his hiding spot and rushed to place the bomb. He needed to find Patton and get the hell out of here.
