Chapter Twenty-One

Logan's eyes narrowed as he focused on his boyfriend. He was standing across from him in a stance similar to his own. They were both waiting for the other to make a move. Logan stepped forward, but hesitated, judging his partner's reaction. Patton didn't seem phased. The intellectual young man blinked slowly and prepared himself to fight.

However, he was caught off guard by Patton rushing at him out of nowhere. Logan's eyes widened as he quickly began to block and dodge attacks his boyfriend laid on him. He glanced down at his feet; he was determined not to let his sweeping trick take him out again.

He swung his body around and brought his leg up, aiming a kick at his head. Patton ducked underneath it swiftly and then reached up to grab his foot. He pulled him forward, causing Logan to stumble passed him. He recovered quickly as his boyfriend threw a punch. He caught his fist expertly and twisted his arm, careful not to hurt him. He let out a surprised gasp as the intellectual young man kicked him in the gut and sent him sprawling across the padded floor.

Patton groaned and didn't get up. Alarm ripped Logan out of his concentration as he rushed over to him. "Are you alright? Did I hurt you-"

A leg hooked around his and yanked him off his feet. His back hit the ground hard and suddenly his boyfriend was smiling over him with a playful smile. Logan's cheeks warmed as he realized he'd been tricked. Patton offered him a hand.

"Well played," he admitted, taking it.

"I wasn't gonna trick you, but it seemed like a really good opportunity to," Patton giggled. They were both sweaty from several hours of combat training. They'd tried out swords and bows, but hand-to-hand was vital to being able to get out of a dangerous one-on-one situation. The couple were determined to get through this together. "I've gotta remember that my tricks probably won't work against someone with more experience."

Logan nodded. "That's true, however, some of them could still be useful," he said. "You've already improved really fast, Patton. You should be proud of yourself."

He beamed as he wiped sweat from his forehead. "I am! I hope I don't have to use much of this on normal people, but it is nice to know that I can defend myself if I have to," he replied. "I'm just happy that I can help you with all this chaos by being here to support you at the least."

A smile found its way onto Logan's face. He nodded gratefully, his eyes showing the emotion he couldn't communicate any other way. Patton was about to kiss him when Father Time entered the room once more.

"I hope you've been doing good work because I have a mission for you," he stated firmly.

They shared a look before focusing on the old man intently. Father Time beckoned them to follow him as he led the way out of the training room. He guided them back to the main hall of the temple. A large table was aglow with a model of a building. It looked like a factory.

Patton and Logan took seats beside each other as Father Time stood across from them. "This is one of Victor's factories. There's tons of them scattered across the timelines," he began seriously. He gestured to the one before him. "Most of them are simple like this one and perform one job that assists his takeover in some way, whether it be the harvesting of metals, oils, magic, animals, or something else. The one you see here is currently drilling into the side of an ancient mountain known for its massive amounts of natural magic."

"What I want the two of you to do is to sneak into the factory and plant a series of explosives," the old man continued, locking eyes with Logan. "It's not necessary to engage with the enemy. This is purely meant to be a stealth operation. If things go well, you'll be in and out before they even realize you're there."

The boys nodded. Patton felt his stomach begin to churn uncomfortably at the thought of what he was about to help with. He was worried about getting caught. He didn't like the idea of blowing up a potentially heavily populated factory building. He didn't want to disappoint Father Time or Logan. He was scared...

"Patton, it's okay to be scared," his boyfriend murmured knowingly, seeing the expression on his face. He took a hold of his hand and laced their fingers together tightly. "I'm scared too, but we can do this. Together."

His words calmed him immensely as a small smile returned to his face. Father Time nodded in agreement and returned their focus back to the model. "These are the points you'll need to plant the explosives in," he said. Blue dots popped up in six different places on the model. "Fortunately, there's two of you, so if you split up, you can each do three and meet back up outside the factory. The bombs you'll be using can't be set off by anything other than the remote or a direct hit, like a bullet or arrow. Don't worry about dropping them, they're not that sensitive."

"Oh thank goodness," Patton said, wiping his forehead exaggeratedly. "Everyone knows I'm extremely clumsy!"

Logan smiled knowingly at his comment. The old man smiled too. "Not to worry, child. You can't set them off by accident. Now, I'll go get you two a couple maps of the facility and whatnot. You go to the armory and put on more stealthy clothing and some armor. You shouldn't need to fight, but I'd rather you be safe than sorry. Logan, you know where it is."

The Holder of the Watch nodded and stood up. He gestured for his boyfriend to follow him as he led the way out of the room. He took a hold of Patton's hand again and squeezed it firmly. "We can do this."
