Chapter Eleven
Logan wasn't nervous. He rarely ever got nervous, and this was simply a party, in a way. The only difference was that they were in medieval times; well, that and the fact that Patton had asked to be his date.
Date was such a loose term. It could mean platonic or romantic. It could be meaningless or serious. Perhaps that was why Logan found himself being nervous.
It didn't take him long to find a shop with suitable attire, but as he wandered through its displays of suits, he felt uncertain of what he was looking for. He knew he needed a formal suit, but wasn't it typical for dates to match? Patton hadn't told him what he was wearing and splitting up was to ensure it would be a surprise. How was he supposed to match with him if he didn't know what he would be wearing?
Logan supposed he could just play it safe and find a black and white suit. It would match with everything, but it would also solidify his feelings about being the "boring" one.
Of course, he could take a guess of what Patton might wear. Because of his eagerness to surprise him, Logan wasn't sure what it was, but he knew he liked blue above all other colors. Not just any blue, light blue; the blue you'd associate with the clearest summer sky. Call him a romantic, but he often associated Patton's smile with the sun.
He shook his head, warmth rising into his cheeks. Those are ridiculous thoughts for a person of logic and reason, he told himself. They're frivolous and pointless... but they are true. He brings joy to everyone around him and embraces everyone with warmth.
Logan swallowed, looking around; it was pointless to do so because no one could hear his thoughts, but somehow he still felt embarrassed. He wasn't used to feeling strongly about another person. Passion for science? Nothing unusual. Excitement over world history? Typical for him. Satisfaction over solving a multi-step math problem? He couldn't help feeling titillated upon reaching the final solution.
However, these random streams of thought consisting of compliments and cheesy similes about Patton? The nervousness he felt attending a party with him as his date? The butterfly-esque fluttering in his stomach he felt whenever Patton smiled at him?
He had no idea how to react.
There's no point in dwelling on that now! You have a task to do, his thoughts reminded him. Find a suitable option of attire or you won't have a chance to understand these feelings.
He nodded to himself and looked back up at all the suits along the racks and walls. If Patton was going to wear light blue, perhaps he could wear dark blue as a compliment. They were both a fan of blue, but where the more emotional of the two like the sky blue, Logan preferred deep, navy blues.
The young man scanned the store, spotting the blue suits. There were several options in front of him but some of them were definitely not what he was looking for. There was a suit in cotton candy blue that figuratively blinded him as he looked at it. He was sure Patton could make it look good, but he knew he most certainly couldn't.
There were more subtle options, black suits that had blue accents on the label and breast pocket. They were pleasant, but Logan wanted something a little more... surprising. He wanted to get Patton to give him one of those dazzling smiles that he only did whenever he did something out of character, like hugging him or giving him a heartfelt compliment. He wanted that smile more than anything.
His eyes continued to scan through the options when a suit caught his attention. It was a deep blue and appeared metallic. He blinked and pulled it from the rack. It shimmered beautifully, but didn't sparkle with glitter or sequins that he felt was too much.
It was simple, polished, and just a little bit eye catching in the way he wanted. Logan found himself smiling a little and caught himself, clearing his throat. He made his way over to the fitting rooms near the back of the store. One of the rooms was open, so he slipped inside with the suit.
He took a deep breath; clothing shopping wasn't something he was familiar with and the claustrophobic fitting room with a full body mirror was making him uncomfortable. As he stripped, the mirror showed off his thin and rectangular body. Logan swallowed and tried not to focus on it. He didn't like to reveal skin for this very reason.
He hurriedly pulled on the black slacks and black button-down shirt. He exhaled in relief as he covered his chest. Once the first layer of clothing was on, he pulled on the metallic dark blue blazer.
Logan glanced back up at the mirror as he buttoned the jacket, freezing. He was taken aback by his appearance. He looked... good.
A tiny smile spread across his lips as he turned and inspected his reflection. It turned out to not be as bad as he thought. He nodded confidently; he then took off the suit and put on his casual clothing again. He left the fitting room and headed to the counter where a cashier was waiting for him.
They looked up and smiled at him. Logan nodded and handed them the suit and paid for it. It was an easy exchange, but as he left the store he realized he didn't have shoes.
Across the market place, there was a store with shoes. He tucked the box containing his suit under his arm and walked over to the shop with new found confidence. He wasn't dreading this anymore.
He entered the shoe shop and immediately looked for the more... extravagant colors. Logan wanted to find metallic blue shoes to match with his blazer. It didn't take him that long to find them, but a rack of accessories caught his eye. They had corsages of many different colors and flowers.
He looked at them curiously and grabbed one that had light blue honeysuckle flowers on it with a smile. Patton's favorite flower and favorite color... I'm sure he'll like it.
