Training

The morning sun shone brightly through the small windows scattered throughout the medium-sized suite. My temporary living quarters were very nice, especially for a military base. To me, living quarters on a military base seemed very basic. I would have never thought they'd be anything like this.
My room was the equivalent to an apartment, the kind you'd find in like New York City or something. It was absolutely beautiful, and decorated nicely. Most of the decor was black and white, but I didn't mind that very much. It reminded me of the way my home back in North Carolina was decorated, so it made me feel at home. It was also a lot more comforting than I thought it would be.
At the moment I was sitting at the island in the kitchen. I had already had my morning shower, so I decided it was now time for some much needed relaxation time. I was perched up on the chair with my legs crossed, and I had a warm cup of tea sitting in front of me. The TV played in the background, but I was too focused on staring at the golden liquid in my cup to pay attention to it.
I was still trying to get over everything that happened last night. Crying like that had left me absolutely drained, both emotionally and physically, and I was almost certain I looked the part. The fact that I was now alone in my suite didn't make things any better, but I wasn't going to bother anyone because of it. Everyone here had way more important things to do than watch over me all the time. I just really hoped that sooner or later I'd be able to get over this pain.
I took a quick sip of my tea before sitting it back down on the counter. A knock on the door caused me to look over. I let out a sigh and just raised my hand before swinging the door open and taking another sip of my tea. That's the first time I've used my abilities in a while, but I was just too lazy to get up and open it, and I was also too lazy to tell whoever it was to come in.
The sound of footsteps caused me to look over yet again, and I saw Optimus's holoform making his way into the room. Once he noticed me at the island he made his way over.
"You have removed one of the door's hinges," he started. Oops.
"I'm feeling a bit lazy today. I didn't exactly feel like getting up to get it," I told him, taking yet another drink of my tea.
He gave me a look. "You could have easily just called for me to come in, Brenna. Then I could have opened the door without inflicting damage to it."
I just chuckled. "They'll fix it, Optimus." He just shook his head at me before walking around the counter to stand in front of me.
"I think there's going to be an issue regarding your laziness situation," he said.
"What kind of issue might that be?"
"Major Lennox and his men believe that it would be smart for you to have some sort of training; they would like for you to begin today. I was informed that they want you to start as soon as possible in case something were to go wrong and I was not there to protect you myself," he explained to me.
I let out a dry, insincere laugh. "Why do I need any kind of training though? I'm already powerful as it is," I replied with a frown.
"Yes, you are. But if something were to happen that you could not use your ability you would need to be prepared," he responded.
I shrugged. I guess it made sense enough for me to want to try to be involved.
"When do I start?" I questioned.
"Fifteen minutes. I'd advise you to get dressed."
"Can't I go in this?" I asked as I hopped down from my chair. I was wearing one of my mom's t-shirts along with a pair of leggings. I didn't find anything wrong with it, but Optimus seemed to.
"No. If I were you I'd change into something suitable for exercise," he told me. I just groaned. "Get ready, and meet Bumblebee in the training room on the ground floor."
I nodded and was about to head into my room until he called me back.
"We also have a meeting to attend today. Lennox and his men have a particularly important matter to discuss with you," he informed me.
I gave him a thumbs up and a smile before running into my bedroom. Almost immediately I began to wonder what a group of military men could possibly want to talk to me about, but I thought better than to linger on it. I'd find out later.
After rummaging through the two large bags sitting beside my bed, I managed to find some suitable workout clothing. I changed into a pair of black workout capris, a black sports bra, a black Nike hoodie, and my black Nike Free Runs. I hadn't even realized just how many clothes I had packed until today.
I threw my damp hair into a bun before finally heading out. There was no use in putting on makeup. I would be sweating it off soon anyway.
Bumblebee greeted me when I finally arrived down in the training center. It took me a good seven minutes to find it, but with the help of the many workers here I found it fairly easily.
"So, I don't really understand why I have to learn how to fight, but Optimus thinks I should and Lennox does too, so let's get this over with," I said to Bee.
He chuckled. "Is someone in a mood today?"
"No, I'm just feeling lazy. I wanna get this over with," I whined.
He just laughed at me, and soon enough we were on the floor.
The two of us trained for what seemed like hours, and it probably was. I was not very good at paying attention to time. Anyway, training was very exhausting and rather aggravating for me. I wound up using my ability on Bumblebee several times, which in turn caused him to bring Ironhide in to help me train. That old bot was a lot rougher on me than Bumblebee had been. I had to use my ability on him just to get him to stop. I was going to have so many bruises tomorrow. This was definitely not something that I was accustomed to.
"I'm going to die," I breathed out as I fell to the floor. They worked me harder than I've ever worked before.
"Suck it up and quit complaining. It wasn't that bad," Ironhide grunted. Did I mention that he was kind of a hard ass?
"That's easy for you to say! You've been doing this for God knows how long. And, not to be rude or anything, you don't have muscles humans do that tire out when you've exerted them too much," I retorted.
Bee chuckled. "That was just a warm up. Just wait and see what we have planned for you next week."
My eyes widened and I fell back onto the mat. I didn't even want to think about what more they could possibly do to me at this point. It's only the first day and I've already been beaten, pummelled, kicked, flipped, and thrown. I didn't think I could take any more of it.
The door to the training room opened and I looked over from my spot on the floor to see Optimus walking inside. I just lay there while Ironhide and Bumblebee greeted him; I was already exhausted and would probably end up asleep on the floor in just a matter of minutes.
"Brenna," Optimus spoke as he looked down at me.
"Yes?"
"Are you ready to meet with Lennox now? I'm receiving word that he's requesting our presence," he said to me.
I groaned. I had completely forgotten about this meeting with Lennox that was supposed to take place. At first I was kind of ready to attend, but now I just didn't want to. All I wanted to do at this moment was go back to my room, shower, and then sleep for the next three years. Lennox could wait that long, couldn't he?
"I don't wanna go," I whined.
I heard Ironhide let out a grunt. "Does this child whine about everything?"
Optimus shot him a warning look before looking back at me. "Get up," he commanded, holding a hand out to pull me up.
I knew that there was no way I could disobey, and I knew that if I did it would only cause problems, so I decided just to take his hand.
A weird tingling sensation shot through my hand the moment my skin came into contact with his synthetic skin, and I found myself very confused about what it was. Never in my life had I ever felt something like that, not even with my ability. It was a weird feeling, but it was also a very incredible feeling. I quickly shook it off though; I couldn't let something as simple as a tingle distract me from what was important here, and right now that was getting to this meeting with Lennox.
