Chapter 2:

The sea wants to reach the sky

[P.O.V] Kaito Almasen (Kai)

[5 days passed]

The days when  Benjie bullied me...

📌On my 1st day at my new university: As I stood in front of the class, Benjie suddenly threw a book in my face and because of that, my introduction about myself in front of a new classmate got ruined and as I result, my classmates don't know my name. I'm a nameless person in the entire class.

📌On my 2nd day at my new university: In his father's name, Benjie ordered the gate guards to close the university gate early so that I couldn't enter inside the university.

📌On my 3rd day at my new university: In his father's name, Benjie ordered the cafeteria manager to forbid me from buying any kind of food in the university cafeteria for the whole week.

📌And lastly, on my 4th day was the most horrible thing that happened in my life: Benjie humiliated me in front of a crowd as if he hosting a game show on television.

At that moment, what Benjie didn't know, his laughs on the fourth day were his last laughs here inside the university because the great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice and to carry out my plans against him, I let him belittle me, let him do what he wanted to do to me because this was probably the last time he would step foot in this university.

I endured Benjie's pressure on me just to carry out one of the steps in making the student's petition and that was to gather evidence of bullying against him but unfortunately, when I decide to console my registration of making a student petition against Benjie to the university student council office.

The student council staff told me that my complaint is so useless, even I report so many times of experienced being bullied by Benjie. Nothing will change because student council staff told me that the student petition is an action or request of many individual students that need to be taken by school directors for the benefit of all students.

"Does that mean I need the support of students to ratify and accept my petition against Benjie?" (I asked the student council staff.)

"Well, It looks like that but you need student support or approval of up to 30% of the students here at the university so that we can accept your student petition." (The student council staff told me.)

At that moment, I was suddenly surprised by what the student council staff said to me.

"Seriously? I thought I can file a petition against him after I gather all the evidence about his bad behavior within the campus." (I told the student council staff as I was surprised by what she said earlier.)

"Well, that's not what you need to do because after you manage to get 30% or more student approval, we still need to settle disputes for both parties here in the student council office before we pass it on to the board of directors." (The student council staff told me with a smirk.)

Note: What are settle disputes? 

Dispute resolution or dispute settlement is the process of resolving disputes between parties. The term dispute resolution is sometimes used interchangeably with conflict resolution, although conflicts are generally more deep-rooted and lengthy than disputes.

After I heard the student council office tell me, I suddenly feel disappointed in myself and that disappointment made me sad so I thought to go to the university rooftop to give myself fresh air to relieve my stress and after I got there, I thought to lie down to see the blue sky and as I staring at the sky, I thought to talk to myself.

"I thought that all my plan against Benjie will work but I suddenly forget that assuming is the root of all disappointment and life isn't always rosy for everyone because the worst feeling in this world is knowing that we did our best to achieve something but our best wasn't good enough." (I spoke as my hand want to touch the sky.)

After I say those words, I thought to shout into the sky what's in my mind right now.

"Hey, Sora! Is time for me to give up!?" (I shout as I lie down and ask questions in the blue sky.)

Note: Sora is a Japanese word for sky.

At that moment, as I staring at the blue sky, I suddenly saw a piece of paper floating in the air.

and as I watched that paper dancing in the midst sky as he falls into the land. There's something incredible idea that appeared in my mind on how to inform all students about the school petition letter against Benjie but to fulfill the plan I have in mind, you have to go to the library first.

*Evil smirk* (Kaito.)

[P.O.V] Jiro Canlas

[ATM] Outside of the glass window of our university library

"He's cute and charming just like what the security officer told me." (I spoke as I looked at Kaito Almasen.)

"Huh? What are you talking about dude?" (My friend from the cheerleading club asked me.)

"(Chuckles)... Nothing." (I answered my friend's question as I pulled my friend away from the library's glass window so that the both of us will continue walking into the cheerleading club room.)

[P.O.V] Benjamen de Guzman (Benjie)

[Meanwhile at the university cafeteria]

At this moment, I couldn't hide the happiness I felt right now because four days ago, my mother told me that she had good news about my childhood friend and after almost nine years of waiting, my long-awaited childhood friend is coming back here in the Philippines.

"Hey, Benjie! What's happening to you!? Can you stop that creepy smile of yours! and wait for a second... What are you looking at? and what is in this wooden box?" (Kevin told me as he tries to snatch my childhood friend's old photo and the wooden box from my hands.)

"It seemed that there's something good that happened to you?" (Gun told to me as he smirk.)

"Yeah, sort of." (I smile like an idiot as I continuously mix my parfait cups until they melt.)

Note: Parfait cups is a dessert consisting of layers of ice cream, fruit, etc., served in a tall glass.

At that time, as I talking to Gun... Kevin suddenly grabbed the wooden box from me.

"Hey! You can't open that wooden box!" (I scolded Kevin as I quickly stood up to snatch the wooden box from him.)

"Why not? Is this where you put all the porn videos you bought on a porn site? hehehe." (Kevin suspiciously ask me as he looks at me like an idiot.)

"Stop taking illegal drugs okay because that wooden box was from my childhood friend okay so return that to me!" (I told Kevin as I carefully approach him to take my childhood friend's wooden box.)

"Oh... The childhood friend of yours that you always talking about and the one who rejects your feelings nine years ago? Hahaha." (Kevin teases me as he laughs like an idiot.)

"How dare you talk to me like that... and for your information, he didn't reject me, Okay! I just can't admit to him how much I love him because I am afraid of being rejected but now, I going to confess my feeling for him!" (I stuttering told Kevin as I blushed while I'm holding the wooden box.)

At that time, Gun was suddenly surprised by what he heard from me.

"Wait for a second? Is your childhood friend is coming back here in the Philippines?" (Gun quickly asks me.)

"Yep and in fact, after our class, Me, my childhood friend, and our mom's will have dinner in a fancy restaurant tonight." (I proudly told Gun with a big smile on my face.)

"But why the face of your childhood friend looks familiar to me? Hmmm." (Kevin told me as he looked at my childhood friend's old photo.)

"What do you mean?" (Gun asks Kevin as he focuses on eating his parfait cups.)

"His cheeks, his lips, and especially his eyes look like the person we fought with the other day." (Kevin spoke as he keeps staring at my childhood friend's old photo.)

"Which one? The nameless guy in our class?" (Gun asked Kevin.)

"Yes! he is, I shouldn't be mistaken, he really looks like him!" (Kevin spoke with a smile on his face.)

At that point, after what I heard from Kevin, my mood suddenly changed as I looked at him wickedly.

"Can you stop talking nonsense!? because your jokes aren't funny at all and frankly, you don't have right to compare my childhood friend to a worthless man like him!" (I wickedly told Kevin as I angrily pull his shirt lean closer to me.)

"Chill dude, Okay, I'm so sorry." (Kevin.)

At that time, instead, people were looking at us because Kevin and I were arguing... The student with whom we ate inside the cafeteria hurriedly took their phones for unknown reasons and while they were looking at their phones the rest of them were in a hurry to get out of the cafeteria for an unknown reason so I ordered Kevin to look at his phone what was going on.

"Guys, look! There's someone filming a live stream on our university student website!" (Kevin told us as he looked at the live stream on his phone.)

"What's the live stream all about?" (I asked Kevin with no mention on my face.)

At that time, as I asked Kevin, he just staring at me as if he worried about me and because of Kevin's strange action, Gun thought to look at the live stream but instead of telling me what's the live scream all about, Gun just staring at me same as Kevin did.

"I said, What's the live stream all about?!" (I scolded Kevin and Gun as I grabbed Kevin's phone to look at what's going on.)

After I saw the live stream on Kevin's phone, I hurried out of the cafeteria to see if what I was seeing on Kevin's phone was true and when I go out, There were hundreds of papers falling from the sky.

So I thought I'd pick up one of those papers to see if the title I saw in the live stream was correct.

"Is this a joke? (Chuckles) a student petition about eliminating me from this university?" (I spoke as I chuckles.)

As I was holding the piece of shit (student petition letter) against me, I thought look where those papers came from and when my eyes met the rooftop where the papers came from, I quickly saw the nameless guy in our class as he continues to drop the petition paper against me from the rooftop for many people to see.

After I confirmed that my nameless classmate made the petition against me, I angrily crumpled the petition paper because of the annoyance I felt for him.

"Are you challenging me? All right, I'll give you the game that even you don't want to play!" (I spoke as I angrily crumbled the petition paper.)

I don't know his name, I have no plans to know even a small detail about his life but I'll do everything to make sure he going to pay for his wrong actions towards me.

[P.O.V] Kaito Almasen (Kai)

[ATM rooftop building of the university]

To fulfill my desire to cut Benjie's horn, I decide to beat him by throwing hundreds of papers of student petition letters from the tallest buildings within this university just to make sure many could see and fill out my student petition against Benjie but as I dropped the student petition letter one by one. I coincidentally saw Benjie looking at me from the ground, and as I looked at him from here, it seems that he didn't happy with what I am doing against him, and after I dropped all the student petition letters from here on the highest rooftop in our university. My phone suddenly rang, and to find out who was calling me, I immediately took it out of my pocket.

"Why were you called, mom? I thought you didn't have a child because you were always busy with something you never told me." (I speak to my mom on my phone as I walk downstairs to go back to my respective classroom.)

"Sorry, Frederick... I was just really busy though but can we have dinner tonight after your class? because I have something important to tell you." (My mom told me on the phone.)

"About what, mom?" (I asked my mom on the phone.)

At that time, when I ask my mom about what's the important thing she going to tell me, she suddenly becomes speechless as if she hiding something from me and after a second, she  suddenly change the topic and said:

"By the way, my friend and his son want to join our dinner tonight so you better join us." (My mom told me on the phone.)

"Your friend? Which one?" (I ask my mom on the phone.) 

"Seriously? Don't you remember my friend used to come to our house with his son named Ben?" (My mom asks me on the phone.)

At that time, after I heard my mom says the name Ben, I suddenly felt something in my heart that makes me annoyed:

"Sorry mom, I don't have time to attend a little reunion." (I told my mom on the phone as I felt anger in my heart.)

"But I need to talk to you....." (My mom on the phone.)

As my mom talked to me on the phone, I angrily scolded her without knowing because of the anger I felt.

"I said I don't want to go, mom! So please don't force me!" (I angrily scolded my mom on the phone.)

"Hey, Kaito Frederick Almasen! What's the matter? I don't like the tone of your voice! Do you want me to freeze your bank account so you can't rent a condo unit!?" (My mom scolded me back as she talked to me on the phone.)

At that time, even though I didn't want to see my childhood friend who left me during the time I need him the most. I was forced to follow my mother's demands just because I want to rent a condo unit near the university.

"All right mom (Sighed)... Just text me the address of the restaurant where you and your friend had dinner." (I forcibly agreed with my mother's demand.)

"Okay, I'm expecting to see you later so take care and bye." (My mom told me on the phone.)

[Call hang up]

After eight minutes of walking towards my respective classroom, I finally arrived outside of our classroom but when I entered our classroom, I expected that all my classmates will congratulate me because of what I did against Benjie but unfortunately, my expectation suddenly broke apart when I saw Benjie sitting in our teacher's table like a king as he burns my study desk along with my backpack in front of the class and at that moment when I saw my backpack torn and burning on fire, I suddenly remembered something important inside my backpack.

So without any hesitation, I quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher I saw in our classroom to get rid of the fire on my backpack but when I got the fire extinguisher in my hand. Benjie suddenly stood up with a smirk on his face as he poured gas into my bag to keep it burning.

And at that moment, when I saw my backpack completely burn into ashes. My tears suddenly flowed without realizing it.

"Are you crying?" (Benjie asks me as he smirks at me.)

At that point, instead of releasing the anger, I felt for Benjie...  I chose to keep my anger here in my heart and said: "I'm really impressed with what you did just to make me tears but unfortunately, do you think you can stop me from my evil plans against you? and I want you to know that I will do everything to expel you from this university, so let's wait for all the students here to decide on the petition I made against you!"

"Really? Do you think you can overthrow me? and look at the people around you, do you think they will help you overthrow me IN MY OWN TERRITORY!"  (Benjie told me with a smile on his face.)

At that moment, after I heard what Benjie told me, I suddenly looked at my classmates, and as I looked at them, I suddenly remembered what Mr. Camacho told me.

"You can't defeat a monster if you don't know the ability of the things around you because the real brave man acknowledges the strength of others." (Mr. Camacho told me as he poked my in the chest using his index finger.)

Because of what Mr. Camacho said to me, I bravely went to the front of the class to speak with my classmate: "Guys, I just want to tell you that we all have the right to defend ourselves and especially our rights as students in this university and I know that you're all scared of this freaking jerk (Benjie) and  I also know that because of him, the most of us chose to not to disturb him just to avoid trouble but the real question here is, when will we stop being weak? Are we all happy that Benjie belittles each one of us? and just lie what I said, each one of us has the right to depend on ourselves and when we were working together, we can achieve the justice we deserve so guys let us not let our fears destroy our future because the best way to predict the future is to create it."

At that time, after I spoke in front of my classmate, I could see in their faces that they were still afraid of Benjie so I thought to speak to them once again but unfortunately, the university bell suddenly rang as I sign of afternoon lunch break time.

"It was a nice heart whelming speech of yours and frankly, you make my heart flutter a little bit because of your speech but unfortunately, and as I said earlier, you can't beat me in my own territory so better luck next time, Kid." (Benjie told me as he gives me a smirk smile.)

After the university bell rang, Benjie, his friend, and my classmates went outside to go to the cafeteria, and as my classmate went outside, I'm starting to feel frustrated with myself, I knew in myself that I had done everything I could to achieve justice but my best doesn't good enough to take down someone like Benjie but unexpectedly, as I spacing out while I feel frustrated. My remaining classmates within our classroom suddenly grabbed and pulled my hand out of our classroom.

"Come with us!" (One of my classmates said to me as they grabbed and pulled my hand out of our classroom.)

"Wait! What's going on? and where are you going!?" (I quickly asked my classmate as I was startled.)

After my classmate grabbed and pulled my hand out of our classroom, they immediately took me towards the university rooftop but when I got there,  I was surprised by what I saw because all of my classmates were there.

At that time, I quickly asked them. "What's going on?"

At that moment, I was confused about what was going on. A girl with ponytail hair suddenly approach me and said:

"Well, before you and Benjie went back into our classroom earlier, I already told all our classmates that we were going to help you out to expel Benjie in this university, and to fulfill our plan to help you, I told them to go to the place where Benjie can't see us so we can fill up the petition you made against him." (One of my classmates told me as she smirk.)

"But how can you convince our classmates to help me against Benjie?" (I told my classmate.)

"Well, sorry for the late introduction but I'm Jelai Villanu...." (My classmate talked to me.)

As my classmate spoke to me, I was surprised when I found out her name.

"Wait! You are our class president!" (I told Jelai as I feel grateful.)

"Yes, I am and I'm also a working scholar in our university as a taekwondo athlete but let's change the topic because I have something important to give you." (Jelai told me as she pull something in her pocket.)

"What is it?" (I asked Jelai as I was clueless what's the thing she going to give me.)

At that time, Jelai suddenly held my hand to hand over the thing I was afraid of losing to me.

"Wait, why do you have these letters? I thought they were burned with my backpack earlier." (I asked Jelai as I looked at the letter.)

"Well, Yesterday, while I was collecting our assignments notebook to pass on to our teacher, I accidentally dropped some of the notebooks on the floor and when I picked them up, I saw this letter stuck in your notebook so I thought of taking it to give it back to you because it seems that letter is so important to you." (Jelai told me.)

"Yeah, this letter has sentimental value for me that's why I am so thankful to you Jelai for giving it back to me." (I told Jelai as I keep staring at the letter in my hand.)

"Then starting today, let's be friends okay, let's fight Benjie together!" (Jelai told me as she reach her hand to me.)

"Yeah, I'm so grateful to have you in my back." (I told Jelai as we shake hands as a sign of new friendship.)

After eight minutes, all my classmates finished sending me all the student petition student's approval letters they filled up, after that, we went back to our classroom as if nothing had happened and after three hours, our class has finally over so I thought of going to the student council office so I could submit all student approval we fill up earlier before I went out of our classroom to go to the student council office, I saw Benjie immediately leave our classroom with excitement in his eyes.

After Benjie went out, I immediately went to the student council office to hand over my collected student petition student's approval letter but suddenly, before I walk out the door of our classroom... my mom suddenly called me to ask where I am and because of my perfectionist mom wants me to hurry up to go in the meeting place of our dinner, so I thought to ask Jelai a favor to handover the collected student petition student's approval letter.

"Jelai, can I ask a favor?" (I ask Jelai.)

"Yeah, sure, what is it?" (Jelai asked me.)

"Can you please submit all of these student's approval letters we made at the student council office?" (I ask Jelai as I held to her the student's approval letter.)

"I can do that for you but can I ask you why are hurried about?" (Jelai asks me.)

"My mother, her friend, and my ex-childhood friend which is my mother's friend's son want to meet me outside for a dinner." (I told Jelai.)

"Ex-childhood friend?" (Jelai suddenly asks me with curiosity.)

"It's a long story." (I told Jelai as I feel uncomfortable if someone mentions my childhood friend.)

"Oh... I see, a little reunion, okay I got it, you can go now take care." (Jelai told me with a smile on her face.)

After I hand over to Jelai all the collected student petition student's approval, I immediately went out in our classroom to go to the meeting place where's my mother and her friend met for a dinner, and after thirty minutes, I finally arrived at the restaurant where my mother and her friend are having dinner but before I went to my mom and her friend table, I went first to the comfort room at the restaurant to pee but unexpectedly, when I got inside the comfort room, I suddenly saw Benjie washing his hand on the wash area and at that moment, we were both suddenly startled to each other when we meet inside the comfort room.

 "Unbelievable, what a coincidence, how can someone like you get into this expensive restaurant?" (Benjie frankly asks me.)

At that moment, I answered Benjie's question with a smirk and said: "I'm the one who should ask you how an illegitimate child like you can afford this expensive restaurant?"

At that moment, because of what Benjie heard from me, he angrily punched me in my face and said: "How dare to talk to me like that? You have no right to belittle and criticize me because you are not in my position!"

At that time, as Benjie continuously punched me as I lay on the floor, I suddenly stared into his eyes and as I stared into his eyes, I suddenly remembered someone in my past resembling his eyes.

While Benjie continuously punched me as I lay on the floor. My mother and her friend suddenly arrived to stop the fight between me and Benjie.

"Hey, Ben! that's enough! What are you guys fighting about!? Why did you beat your childhood friend!" (My mom's friend scolds Benjie.)

At that time, Benjie and I were suddenly surprised by what we heard.

"Wait... What are you talking about, mom!?" (Benjie asks his mom as he suddenly becomes stunned by what he heard.)

"Don't tell me you didn't know he was your childhood best friend? He's the kid who always saves you from bullies when you two were still in grade school." (Benjie's mom told Benjie.)

At that time, after what Benjie heard what his mother told him, he suddenly steps backward from me as he burst into tears and after I second, he hurried out of the restaurant with tears in his eyes.

At that time, I really don't know what to do, I am so confused by how I'm going to react after I found that the childhood friend I know is actually the person I hated the most in the university.

"Are you okay, Frederick?" (My mom quickly asks me as she quickly approached me to help me stand up.)

"This situation isn't okay mom so leave me alone!" (I frankly told my mom as I give her a furiously look.)

After I say those words to my mom, I immediately went out to the restaurant to give myself time to think.

[P.O.V] Kairi Almasen (Kaito's mother)

[Restaurant]

[Twenty minutes later after the incident]

"All your plan ruined because of me that's why I sincerely apologize for what my son did to your son." (Benjie's mom.)

"You don't need to say sorry and, in fact, I'm so grateful that this incident happened." (I told my friend as I stared at my coffee.)

"Wait for a second, don't tell me that you are not ready yet to tell your son the whole truth why did the both of you come back here to the Philippines?" (My friend  (Benjie's mom) asks me.)

"Yeah, It seems like that because when I saw my son's reaction when he found that your son is actually his childhood friend nine years ago, I suddenly remembered what he had been through when his grandmother passed away 10 years ago and that's what I'm afraid will happen to my son again, so I don't want to see my son like that anymore." (I answered my friend's question.)

"Yeah, I also saw his reaction too earlier and it was scary back then but when will you tell him the truth?" (My friend asks me.)

"Until I find the person I am looking for." (I told my friend as I'm looking at my reflection on the coffee I ordered)

"And after you found that person, you can finally get your mother's last will, right?" (My friend asks me.)

Note: Last will and testament is a legal document that expresses a person's wishes as to how their property is to be distributed after their death and as to which person is to manage the property until its final distribution.

"I admit that's one of my reasons why I do this but the real reason why I'm doing this is... The person I'm looking for is part of the missing piece of my late husband and I'll give my best to find that person soon as possible." (I told my friend with seriousness.)

[Authors note]: Hello, I'm Psycho kid the author of this book, I just want to explain why this chapter entitled "The sea wants to reach the sky"

The sea symbolizes our main character which is Kaito.

Fun fact: If you translate Kaito's name into Japanese words, it translated to sea, ocean & soar high which means, "Kaito wants to reach the sky"

The paper that Kaito saw floating in the sky also symbolize "Kaito's self-confidence"

When Kaito threw a hundred papers from the rooftop into the ground which means "Kaito does everything he knows how to help other people and he willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others because Kaito believes that he can beat Benjie"

The sky also symbolizes the unreachable dream that's why Kaito keeps reaching the sky because "He wants to beat Benjie" even though he knew he had no chance to beat him.

But without Kaito's knowing, the sky also symbolize "the order in the universe"

"Everything happens for a reason because the universe knows what's best for us"
