Chapter 16:

The melody of my heart

[P.O.V] Benjamin de Guzman (Benjie)

Because of what I did to Jiro, the committee of the team-building decides to stop the activity and as the other participants went back to the resort to take a rest, Kai suddenly approaches me as he quickly pulls me away from the activity area of the team-building.

And after five minutes of walking, Kai suddenly stops at the parking lot of the resort to talk to me.

"Hey, Benjie! Why did you do that to Jiro! Why did you intentionally spike the ball towards his face!" (Kai angrily scolds me as he pointing his index finger at my face.)

At the time, I was just quiet and avoiding Kai's gaze at me as he kept scolding me about what happened earlier in the volleyball game but even though I intentionally hit Jiro using the ball, I don't have the confidence to admit to Kai what I had done to Jiro because that stupid jerk (Jiro) always getting on my nerve every time I saw him with Kai... I hate that stupid jerk so much... It feels like that he has bad intention against Kai and as Kai's boyfriend, I just want to protect him from people had bad intention from him... I want to take Kai away from Jiro because that guy looks like isn't trustworthy.

As I talk to myself with annoyance in my heart because of Jiro, Kai suddenly touches my left hand as he asks me: "Hey, Benjie! Are listening to me?"

"I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you were saying." (I told Kai.)

"Unbelievable! Are you still denying that you're not getting jealous of every time Jiro and I were together!" (Kai scold me.)

"Why should I be jealous of both of you!" (I told Kai as I trying to make an excuse so that Kai didn't notice that I'm jealous of Jiro.)

"Then in that case, Why did you spike that ball towards Jiro's face? Why did you hurt him?" (Kai angrily asks me.)

"Because that jerk (Jiro) looks like isn't trustworthy and it feels like that he has bad intention against you and as your boyfriend, I just want to protect you... I want to take you away from that guy!" (I angrily argue with Kai.)

After I say those words in front of Kai's face... he suddenly chuckles at me as he angrily told me: "Are you sure that you're just protecting me? or you are just protecting yourself from getting hurt just like your friend did to you!"

"What do you mean?" (I befuddled ask Kai.)

As I befuddled asking Kai what he trying to say to me, he suddenly quiet as he grabs and pull my hand as he said: "Come with me." 

"Where were we going?" (I quickly ask Kai as he walking and pull my right hand towards the  receptionist area of the resort.)

"Just come with me okay!" (Kai told me as he continued walking with me towards the receptionist area of the resort.)

After Kai talked to the resort receptionist, he suddenly invited me to the beach with a spoken key in his left hand, and as I looked at that spare key ... I noticed that that spare key was for the jet- ski but how did he know I could drive a jet-ski? or maybe, Did Kai made some research about my habits?

"Let's operate that jet-ski." (Kai told me as he suddenly gives me the spare key of the jet-ski he pointed out.)

"Wait! How did you know that I knew how to drive a jet ski?" (I stuttering ask Kai.)

Note: Jet ski is a small jet-propelled vehicle that skims across the surface of the water and typically is ridden like a motorcycle.

"Gun and Kevin told me that you know how to use a jet ski." (Kai told me as he focusing himself wear the life vest.)

"But Gun and Kevin didn't know that I could drive a jet ski." (I told Kai as I trying to start the engine of the jet-ski.)

At that moment, when Kai heard what I said to him... his face suddenly turned red as he avoiding my gaze at him as he said: "Ahh... is that so?"

As I recall, there were four people knows that I knew how to drive a jet-ski and those people were my Mom, my stupid Dad, my older brother Terrance and the witch (Dianne.)

After a second... 

"Did Dianne told Kai that one of my habits was jet-skiing!?" (I suddenly ask myself in my mind as I looking at Kai's weird actions.)

After two minutes, Kai and I finally got in the jet-ski.

As Kaito and I were jet-skiing in the sea, I suddenly grab his left hand to put it in my waist so he wouldn't fall into the seafloor but instead of Kai's hold me in my waist, he chose to put his arm around my shoulder.

While both of us enjoying jet-skiing on the seafloor, Kai suddenly asks me a question: "Benjie, who taught you to use jet-ski?" 

"Well, my older brother taught me jet-skiing when we were young." (I told Kai as I focusing myself driving the jet-ski.)

At that moment, when Kai heard what I said, I was suddenly surprised as he quickly asks me"Wait!... Do you have an older brother?" 

"Yeah, he's my Father's first child and his name is Terrance and my half older brother is good at everything." (I told Kai as I focusing myself driving on the jet-ski.)

"But why I didn't see or met your older brother when we were kids and I also didn't see him inside our university?" (Kai asks me as he put his arm around my shoulder.)

"Six years ago and when I in 6th grade, Terrance used to study in our university and he also used to be the president of the student council and while he was studying in our university, some student in our university called him the "Wizard King" because of his intelligent and cleverness comes with planning and possibilities and at those times, no one can beat him." (I told Kai as I focusing myself driving on the jet-ski.)

"But one day, all of a sudden, my father decides and chose to send my older brother abroad to continue his study in a famous university in Hong Kong but even though there are many things he can do using his clever and tactical personality, I know how to beat him and I'm the only one who can beat him!" (I told Kai as I focusing myself driving on the jet-ski.)

"Huh? What do you mean?" (Kai asks me.)

"For example... We all knew that Kevin is an academic excellent student in our university but sometimes, he uses his intellect to create chaos within the university but he can't resolve the problem he made inside of the university." (I told Kai as I focusing myself driving on the jet-ski.)

"But for Terrance, even 1% of possibilities, he can solve everything and he will never run out of ideas and possibilities because for him... Everything is possible if you just thinking outside of the box and just like a wizard, his intelligent and clever personality can do anything just like magic and he can surpass the ability of an ordinary smart person."  (I told Kai as I focusing myself driving on the jet-ski.)

Note: Thinking outside the box (also thinking out of the box or thinking beyond the box and thinking outside the square) is a metaphor that means to think differently, unconventionally, or from a new perspective. This phrase often refers to novel or creative thinking.

"But just like what you said earlier that you can beat your older brother but how can you beat him?" (Kai asks me as he tightly hugs me as I driving the jet-ski on the seafloor.)

At that time, I suddenly smirk when Kai asked me how I would beat Terrance even he's unbeatable.

"Everyone has secrets and weaknesses and the only way to defeat Terrance is to take or destroy his metronome." (I told Kai as I focusing myself driving on the jet-ski.)

Note: Metronome is a device that produces an audible click or other sounds at a regular interval that can be set by the user and it also helps to think fast and speeding up our critical thinking.

"You mean that your older brother can't think properly without a metronome?" (Kai asks me.)

"Yes, you're right but like I said earlier that my older brother Terrance is a clever person because when he found out I knew his weakness, he quickly made a way for him to keep his...."

As Kai and I were jet-skiing as we were talking about my older brother Terrance, the jet-ski we were riding is suddenly stopped in the middle of the sea.

"What's happening? Why did we stop?" (Kai asks me as he notices that the jet-ski we were riding suddenly stopped in the middle of the sea.)




As I focusing myself restarting the engine of the jet-ski using the spare key... Kai tightly hugs me around my waist while he keeps asking me what's happening.

"Hey, Benjie! Why did we stop?" (Kai panicking asking me as he keeps hugging me on my waist from my back.)

"I think the jet ski we were riding is out of fuel." (I told Kai as I looking at the odometer and gas mileage of the jet-ski.)

Note: Odometer is an instrument for measuring the distance traveled by a vehicle.

Note: Gas mileage is the number of miles that a vehicle can travel using a particular amount of fuel.

"Then, how are we going back to the resort?" (Kai stuttering asks me.) 

"We'll swim until we get to shore." (I told Kai.)

"But I can't swim." (Kai stuttering told me.)

At that moment, I suddenly hold Kai's right hand as I look at him with a smile on my lips.

"Don't worry, Kai, because we both have life vests and I'm here too, I won't leave you and take care of you until we reach the shore safely." (I told Kai as I holding his right hand to keep him calm.)

"Okay." (Kai told me as he blushing.)

After five minutes of swimming, Kai and I reached the shore safely.

As Kai and I sat near the seashore and watched the sunset as the seashore waves touch our feet, I suddenly thought of asking Kai about something.

"Kai... Can I ask something from you?" (I ask Kai as I watching the sunset.)  

"Okay, what kind of question you going to ask me?" (Kai as he watching the sunset.)

"Why did you accept my feelings for you?" (I asked Kai as I look at him.)

 At that moment, when Kai heard my question,  he suddenly looks at me with a smirk.

"Let just say that... at first, I was too afraid to fall in love... but then you came ♫, You brought me out of the shell ♫... You gave the world to me and before I knew ♫... There I was so in love... with you ♫." (Kai tells me as he sang the words he says to me.)

"Wait! that a lyric of a song, Tsk!" (I told Kai as I feel a little bit annoy at him.)

"Yeah... Hahahaha, you're right but the lyrics of the song I sang for you now is the melody of my heart when I accept your feelings towards me." (Kai told me as he looks at me with a smile.)

"The melody of your heart?" (I ask Kai as I look at him.)

At that moment, when Kai heard my question to him, he suddenly smiles at me as continued to sing the song "When I Met You by Apo Hiking Society."

At that moment... While Kai sang the song "When I met you" as the sunset rays reflect into the cirrostratus clouds and the seafloor.... he slowly hold my left hand...and at that time,  my heart suddenly feels a million butterflies in my chest as all my memories with Kai suddenly flashing back inside of my heart and every lyric of words that Kai sang for me, makes my heart feel so good... it's hard to explain but it looks like that I fall in love with Kai even more.

After Kai sang as he sat next to me under the sunset and a beautiful twilight in the sky, he suddenly spoke to me with a smile on his lips as his eyes feel calm.

"To be honest, Benjie... Every time we're together... you always give me a headache because of your stubbornness but at the same time, you always make me feel so special and just like the song I sang for you earlier... When I met you again, you gave me a reason to be true to myself and you brought me out of my shell from my past relationship with Anna and even though we have different attitudes and I really hate you of being a stubborn person... I chose to open my heart and fall in love with you because you deserve to own my heart... and I'm really happy that I fall in love with someone like you." (Kai said to me as he watches the sunset as we hold hands.)

Note: Come out of the shell is a metaphor that means to move on something or to come out of yourself and willing to open with others.

As Kai and I sat on the white sand of the beach while watching the sunset, I suddenly put my arm around his shoulder as I spoke to him: "Kai, did you know that not every sunset scene in a movie means a sad ending. "

"What do you mean?" (Kai asks me as he sat next to me.)

"The sunset is one of the proofs that the ending can be beautiful too so I want to promise at sunset that I will love you forever and even though I don't know our future fate and the only thing that I can promise to you is... I'll always here for you to love you until my last breath." (I told Kai as I look at him with a smile.)

After I say those words to Kai under the twilight sky, I slowly leaned closer to Kai until his body lay on the beach sand.

At that time, as the seashore waves touch Kai's clothes, I slowly touch his cheek until I softy reach his lips and as he lay on the white sand of the seashore, Kai suddenly stares into my lips and eyes.

And as we staring at each other eyes, I slowly leaned closer to Kai until our nose met and at that moment, I slowly leaned closer to Kai until our lips touch each other but out of the blue, I suddenly paused when I heard a camera snap behind my back.

"I think this is the perfect spot for Kaito and Benjie's prenup photoshoot for their future wedding photo album." (Kevin spoke as he taking a picture of Kai and I lay on the beach.)

"Yeah, the position they're doing now is like the prenup photoshoot for the newlyweds that I see in the magazine." (Dianne told Kevin as she keeps taking a picture of Kai and me.)

At that moment, when Kai and I saw Kevin and Dianne taking pictures of us while we were doing a romantic scene under the sunset... Kai suddenly pushed me away and he immediately stood up quickly to go back to the resort as his face turn red and feel embarrassed.

"Hey, Kai, wait for me!" (I yell at Kai as I try to chase him.)

At that time, Kai didn't listen to me as he walking towards the resort but as I try to chase Kai, I suddenly remembered Kevin and Dianne... and that time, instead of chase Kai... I quickly turn around at Kevin at Dianne as I said: "Hey! both of you!... how dare you ruined my romantic kiss with Kai under the sunset!"

At that time, when Kevin and Diane saw that I was angry with them... they suddenly run away from me as they teasing me using the photo they took earlier.

[P.O.V] Terrance de Guzman (Benjie's older brother)

[5 days in the future]

[Hong Kong International Airport]

While I was waiting for my flight here at the airport, I thought of going to the airport arcade so I could get rid of my boredom but as I walking towards the airport arcade, my Dad suddenly called me on my phone.

[Answered my Dad's phone call]

"Hello, Dad, What's up? Why did you call me?"  (I ask my Dad on the phone as I holding my luggage as I standing next to the glass wall of the airport.)

"Are you still at the airport in Hongkong?" (My Dad asks me on the phone.)

"Yeah, I am, and currently, I am here in the food court in the airport to eat as I waiting for my flight." (I told my Dad on the phone as I making an excuse.)

"Would you like me to pick you up using our private plane?" (My Dad told me on the phone.)

At that time, I suddenly chuckle at what my Dad told me.

"No 3x, Dad... You don't need to pick up me here using our private planes and also, I want you to do your thing and let's focus on our different goals, while you're not in the Philippines... I'll do my best to take care of Benjie... so please, do whatever you need to do to buy all the shares of all the shareholders in the university and besides, this the only way for us to protect Benjie from that fucking old man." (I told my Dad on the phone as I looking in my reflection from the glass wall in the airport with a serious look on my face.)
