The birth of the dragon slayer

[Kaito's nightmare]

When I woke up because of the sunlight touching my face that penetrated my windows, I suddenly felt something within my heart. I don't know why I always dream of memories of the past that I don't want to remember anymore but those memories kept haunting me causing me to dread but my hatred of my past gives me the courage to face my fears because I know in myself that I can face the new world outside of my window.

A world where new hope always shines for me, a place where never fades my heart. The new world I am referring to is my birthplace which is the Philippines where I learned to be brave.

Out of the blue... after almost nine years of living in America, my Mom decided to go back to our homeland country which is the Philippines so that I can continue my studies here at one of the famous universities here in Cebu City.

Note: Out of the blue means without warning; unexpectedly

It's been a week since we came back here to the Philippines to start a new life but instead to eat in a fancy restaurant to celebrate our new life herein... my Mother began to get busy for a reason I couldn't figure out.

and one of the reasons why my Mom decided to come home here in the Philippines was because our family business company went bankrupt and my Mom can't afford my studies at Standford University in California but, to be honest...I have one more reason why I decide to support my Mom to come home here in the Philippines and that's... I want to forget something in America and to get over it, I must stay away from that person.

Honestly, I respect my Mom's decision to come home here in the Philippines but I can't deny to myself that I hate this country so much because of one person but even though I have hated many people in my past, I think I am ready to face my new life here in the Philippines as an ordinary senior high school student.

[Time check 8:30 A.M in the morning]

Currently, as I sit on the bus while my cheek is lying on the glass window of the bus... I suddenly felt hungry so I thought of getting off the bus to buy street food nearby but unfortunately, the bus driver told me that I could just get off the bus at the next bus stop and the bus stop he was referring to would take another fifteen minutes to get there and then that bus stop was just near the new university I was attending so I could do nothing but endure my hunger.

After fifteen minutes, the bus finally arrive at my new university here in Cebu city, and when the bus stopped, I immediately got off to find something to eat but unfortunately, I didn't have enough money to buy something to eat outside our university so I thought I'd go to our university cafeteria to look some foods that will fit into my budget but unexpectedly, was I looking for the university cafeteria inside the campus, I suddenly heard a disturbing and strange noise that caught my attention that makes me feel goosebumps.

At that moment, I don't know where that sound came from but as I slowly hear and followed that disturbing and strange noise... I was suddenly startled and stunned by what I witnessed when I arrived at where the strange sound coming from.

Out of the blue... my heart suddenly skip for a second when I saw someone on the floor being constantly beaten by another student, and at that moment, I don't know what's going on but as the badass guy continued to beat the poor student on the floor. There were two students standing next to the badass guy who did nothing but let the man lie on the floor while their friend beat him and as they were watching the horrible scene... one of the students standing next to the badass guy was overjoyed as he watched the guy on the floor who was mercilessly beaten by their friend.

As I watched and hear that annoying laugh of his, my hunger was suddenly replaced by annoyance here in my heart, and because of the annoyance that kept wrapping around my fists. I bravely approach that person to feed him with my fist.

"Awww! Who the hell are you!? How dare you punch me like that!" (The guy I punched.)

"You think that this situation is kind of amusing?" (I angrily yelled to the person I punched.)

Of because of the annoyance and anger felt by the person I punched, he angrily pull my university polo close to his fiercely face and said: "Hey brat! What's your Problem! Can you mind your own business!"

At that time, after I heard the anger of the person I punched, he suddenly pulled something sharp into his pocket as he gives me a severely look, and when I saw the folding knife in his left hand, I suddenly felt the apprehension caused by my fear of sharp objects but luckily, the person standing next to the badass guy who wearing nerd eyeglasses immediately approached me to stop his friend who tries to hurt me.

"You'd better get out of here before my stupid friend stabs you with his knife." (The nerd guy told me as he stops his friend's folding knife with his right hand.)

"What the! Did he catch the knife for me!?" (I ask myself in my mind as I slowly looked down to check his right hand.)

But when I looked at his right hand, I suddenly wondered why I didn't see any wounds he had received from holding his friend's knife.

"What the fuck, Gun! Why did you stop me from stabbing this man!" (The guy I punched earlier.)

"You can't hurt someone if you're using a toy knife." (The nerd guy scolds his friend I punched earlier.)

After his friend heard the nerd guy says, he immediately looked at the folding knife he was holding and said: "Wait for a second! Did you replace my folding knife with a toy knife again!?"

While the nerd guy and the person I punched earlier continually argue with each other. The badass guy who mercilessly beat the poor student on the floor suddenly chuckles at me as he gives me a severely look and after a second, his fist suddenly moved towards my face, and at that moment, I didn't realize that he had knocked me down with his punch because of that, I suddenly fell to the floor without realizing it.

When because of that incident, his two friends were suddenly dumbfounded by what they saw.

"Who do you think you are to interrupt what I'm doing!?" (The badass guy asks me as he looks at me severely.) 

After I heard that punk's question... I slowly got up from lying on the floor and said: "And who do you think you are to punch me so easily, You son of the bitch!?"

After I say those words with anger built in my heart, I hurriedly used my fist to retaliate against him but unexpectedly... he fiercely blocks my fist with his right hand in a flash.

"How could you stop that...!?" (I stuttering spoke as I was stunned by what he did.)

After I said those words I was shocked... he suddenly chuckles and smirks at me.

"Is that all you got?... A blow that even my index finger could resist, What a shame."  (The badass guy criticizes me as he gives me an evil smirk.) 

As I angrily stared at the badass guy's face as he smirked at me... I suddenly felt something weird inside my body as I remembered something from my dream earlier.

"What's that!?... Is that a continuation of my dream this morning!?" (I ask myself in my mind as I am confused about what's going on with me.)

As I was asking myself a strange question. The weird feeling inside my body suddenly got worse as I suddenly feel something pain in my stomach and said: "Geez! What's happening to me? Why'd those stupid memories of mine suddenly appear in my mind in this situation!?"

As I felt a weakness due to strange happenings inside my body. The badass guy standing in front of me suddenly asks me.

"Are you starting to be scared of me?" (The badass guy severely asks me.)

"I am not!" (I bravely told that badass guy in front of his face as the pain inside my stomach getting worsen.)

"Then why are you become pale and trembling at?" (The badass guy asks me as he smirks at me.)

As we both stared at each other as if we wanted to kill each other. One of the badass guy's friends started to panic when he heard footsteps coming towards where we were.

At that time, I don't know who and where those footsteps came from but as the sound of those footsteps grows louder and closer, the guy I punched earlier immediately approach the badass guy to tell him something.

"Hey, Benjie! Let's get out here! It seems the security officer heading this way!" (The guy I punched earlier.)

"I am not afraid of them!" (The badass guy told his friend.)

"Yeah, I know that but how about me and Gun!? I know you're invulnerable around the security officer but for fuck sake! Gun and I are just ordinary students here so let's get out of here before the security officers come here to arrest us!" (The person I punched.)

"But this scumbag in front of me needs to know who he is up against!" (The badass guy angrily yelled to his friend.)

"We can do that later! So please let's get out of here!" (The guy I punched earlier.)

At that time, The badass guy was forced to listen to his friend's advice but before he left to escape from the security officer, he wickedly lean closer to me and said:

"It seems that this is your lucky day but unfortunately, we're not done yet, Kid!" (The badass guy named Benjie threatened me as he fiercely looks at me like a piece of trash.)

"Do you think I'm afraid of you!?" (I severely told the guy named Benjie as I endure the pain I felt in my stomach.) 

After the badass guy heard what I said, he slowly steps backward at me as he smirks and after a second, he immediately helps his friend to escape the scene, and after that... A group of security officers suddenly came to arrest them but unfortunately, the three idiots I had encountered earlier successfully escaped the area, and for an unknown reason, instead of chasing them, the security office chose to let them go just like nothings happened and after that, they immediately approach me to ask my condition.

"Hey, Kid! Are you okay?" (One of the security officers asks me as he helps me to stand properly.)

"Yeah, I'm okay but can help that person over there first?" (I told the security officer as I pointed to the guy who was beaten by the badass guy named Benjie.)

"Okay, got it!" (The security officer told me.)

After the security officer helped the man who was beaten by the badass guy named Benjie... I suddenly cried out in pain because of the pain I felt in my stomach and when the security officer heard me screaming in pain... they approached me immediately to ask me what's happening to me but before they were getting close to me, my body could no longer cope with the pain I felt so I suddenly fainted as I asked myself a question: "Why did I help the person who was beaten earlier?"

And the answer to that question was... I am the type of person who has nothing to fear if I know in myself that what I am fighting for is right and just like my dad when he was still alive, I want to become a lawyer or prosecutor like him to help others to achieve the justice they deserve but frankly, even though, I have the brave personality to help other people around me but honestly, I didn't have the courage to help myself to forget all the bad memories I experienced while I was living in America.

Those memories were my weakness that's why I was forced to come back here to the Philippines to escape it but I'm still thankful that I'm still able to live on despite the bad things that happened to me without anyone's help because the person I thought would comfort me also left me alone at the time I need him the most.

[Meanwhile at university clinic]

After I fainted earlier along with the guy who is beaten by the badass guy named Benjie... The security officers decided to take us to the university clinic for treatment and after the doctor examined my condition, he told me that to eat at the right time because that's the reason why I'm not feeling well earlier and after that... One of the security officers named Mr. Camacho suddenly approach me to ask me to join him at the security officer's office to ask me a few questions about what I had witnessed earlier and after I spill the tea about what I had witnessed in the incident earlier.

Note: Spill the tea means sharing gossip/information with someone. If you want to know some gossip, you can simply say "Spill the tea." *Another expression that means the same that is also used is "Spill the beans."

Mr. Camacho suddenly chuckles at me and said: "Of all the students who studying here, you are the first person to have the courage to fight the legendary beast."

"Legendary beast?" (I asked Mr. Camacho as I was suddenly confused.)

"He's the badass guy who mercilessly beat the poor student earlier and his name was Benjamin de Guzman, who's also known as the legendary beast because of his charming, stubborn, and hot-headed personality... and moreover, he's the strongest and most dangerous person within the campus that's why no one has the courage to fight with him and as I recall, there was a guy who bravely challenged him to a fight but after 3 days, that guy suddenly disappeared like a bubble but someone told us that guy is in the hospital with a critical condition because of the wound he received from Benjie." (Mr. Camacho told me as he focused himself on making a coffee at the coffee maker.)

"Geez! that punk was right that this day is my lucky day because if the security officers didn't arrive earlier to take away the mess, there is a big possibility they will see me in the hospital in critical condition." (I'm talking to myself in my mind as I felt frustrated with myself.)

"But what about the two idiots with him? Who are they?" (I ask Mr. Camacho with curiosity.)

"Well... the person who always carrying a book and the first person you punched earlier named Kevin Lee, he's one of Benjie's friends also known as a bad genius because he's a type of person who uses his intelligence to harm others that's why If Benjie is the strength then Kevin is the brain of the gang because he always gives Benjie a stupid idea on ​​how he will treat the people who clash with them but even Kevin Lee is the most stupid person I know, he has greatly benefited from this university because he's one of the academic excellence awardees who always represents this university for the robotics competition in another country but frankly, he's the weakest of the three because he was only brave when Benjie was with him." (Mr. Camacho told me as he handed me a cup of coffee.)

"And lastly, the person who wearing weird eyeglasses and one of Benjie's closest friends named Gun Savilya, he's the kindest of the three who better known as the philosopher who always tries his best to stop his friends from doing bad things with his outspoken words and just like his motto in life, there's no one can stop the nature of being real so sometimes, there's nothing can stop Benjie from showing his true color to other people but in spite of everything, it still a big mystery for everyone within the campus why such a good person like Gun become one of Benjie's friend." (Mr. Camacho told me.)

"But why some students in this university are afraid of facing Benjie? and earlier, I heard from one of Benjie's friends named Kevin that Benjie is invulnerable around the security officer... it does mean that all the security officers are also scared of him... but for what reason?" (I asked Mr. Camacho with curiosity.)

"Well... There's an elephant in the room." (Mr. Camacho told me with seriousness.)

Note: There's an elephant in the room means is an in for an important or enormous topic, question, or controversial issue that is obvious or that everyone knows about but no one mentions or wants to because it makes at least some of them uncomfortable or is personally, socially, or politically embarrassing, controversial, inflammatory, or dangerous.

"What do you mean?" (I asked Mr. Camacho as I was confused.)

"Can you see the picture on the wall?" (Mr. Camacho told me as he pointed the picture on the wall inside the security officer's office.)

"Yeah... Who he is?" (I asked Mr. Camacho with curiosity.)

"That picture on the wall is Benjie's father named Mr. Lawrence de Guzman, he also an alumnus in this university." (Mr. Camacho told me.)

"Oh... I see, that's the reason why all of the security officers are scared of  that stupid jerk (Benjie) because his father is a former student here with high honors." (I told Mr. Camacho as I look at Benjie's dad's pictures on the wall.)

"No, that's not the reason why all of us are scared of arresting Benjie because the main reason why we can't arrest Benjie is that... his father is one of the shareholders in this university." (Mr. Camacho told me with seriousness.)

At that time, I was suddenly shocked because of what I heard from Mr. Camacho.

"For real? his father is one of the shareholders in this university!?" (I stuttering ask Mr. Camacho as I am surprised at what he said about Benjie's father.)

"Not just shareholders but the richest shareholders in this university and in fact, Benjie's father is one of the richest and successful entrepreneurs here in the Philippines for a decade but..." (Mr. Camacho told me.)

"But?" (I ask Mr. Camacho as I wait for his answer.) 

"Despite Benjie's father's comfortable and successful life... He has been abandoning his own son for almost eleven years because Benjie is an illegitimate child of his father." (Mr. Camacho told me.)

 "But now, he and his father are in a good relationship, in fact, the other day the father and the son were chasing each other around the campus because Benjie used one of the antique teacups without his father's permission." (Mr. Camacho told me as he  slighty laugh.)

Note: Illegitimate child is born to parents who are not married to each other at the time of the child's birth. Even if the parents later married, the child would still be considered illegitimate. Children who were born during a marriage that was later annulled were historically considered illegitimate.

"If Benjie hadn't rebelled against his father then why is he doing nonsense things to other students who studying here!?" (I ask Mr. Camacho as I feel annoyed at Benjamin.)

"Well, I've been working here for three years but the question you tried to ask me is a big question mark within the people's minds who studying here but it seems that you're the one who can solve that mystery." (Mr. Camacho told me with a smirk.)

"What do you mean?" (I ask Mr. Camacho.)

"All the students who study here knew that Benjie has no weaknesses and it's true that Ordinary humans like me have no ability to slay a monster like Benjie but if we were thinking outside of the box... A dragon-like you (Mr. Camacho pointing at me) can slay his fellow dragon." (Mr. Camacho said to me with a smirk.)

"And just like what I said earlier, of all the students who study here, you are the first person to have the courage to fight with him without fear that means the courage within your heart who like a dragon has the ability to slay a dragon-like Benjie but in this situation, You can't defeat a monster if you don't know the ability of the things around you because a brave man acknowledges the strength of others." (Mr. Camacho told me as he gives me a slight smile.)

After the long conversation with Mr. Camacho about the three idiots, I decided to look for my new classroom to introduce myself in the class and as I walked towards my new respective classroom, my mind still bothered me about what happened earlier but I knew to myself that I had done nothing wrong and I just did the right thing but for some unknown reason, I felt something strange here in my heart that makes me sad.

After ten minutes of walking toward my new respective classroom, I finally arrived outside where my new classroom is located but before I enter the room, I thought of preparing myself to explain in front of the class why I was late for class, but out of the blue, as I rehearse my explanation in the midst of emptiness like an idiot. The door of my new classroom suddenly opened and at that time, my homeroom teacher saw me talking to myself like an idiot.

The moment of silence between me and my new homeroom teacher as we both staring each awkwardness.

"You are Mr. Kaito Frederick Almasen, right?" (The homeroom teacher asked me with an awkward  smile on her face.)

"Yeah I am..." (I stuttered answer my new homeroom teacher as my whole face blushed and laughed awkwardly because of the embarrassing moment I did earlier.)

After a brief conversation, my homeroom teacher invites me to the class.

"Hello guys, please listen to me, I need everybody's attention... this cute guy beside me is the newest student in our section, in fact, he's from Stanford University (SU) in California, USA but he's a pure Filipino citizen just like us, so we can communicate with him without any difficulties... I hope each one of you will help Mr. Almasen to learn more about our university." (Our homeroom teacher)

After my homeroom teacher caught my classmate's attention, she suddenly looked at me and said: "Can you please introduce yourself in front of the class."

But the moment I was ready to introduce myself in front of the class, I was suddenly distracted when the door of our classroom suddenly opened and when I looked at it, I was suddenly stunned as I recoiled in shock when I saw the three idiots I had fought earlier.

As I stared at them, Benjie was suddenly surprised when he saw the face inside the classroom but after he discovered that we were in the same class. the shock on his face was suddenly replaced by an evil smirk and after a second, when because of the annoyance he felt with me, he immediately took the book he saw on our teacher's desk to throw in my face and after Benjie threw that book on my face.

I could see in the faces of my homeroom teacher and my classmate that they were afraid of Benjie as they avoided Benjie's gaze but unfortunately, I'm not the type of person who will let other people belittle me, especially someone who doesn't know who I really am.

And to show other people that no one can be belittling me, I did not hesitate to approach Benjie and say:

"Do you think you can scare me by throwing a book at me like a childish scumbag you fucking idiot!" (I fiercely look at Benjie with an evil smirk as I poked my index finger into his chest.)

When because of what I said to him, he was suddenly annoyed with me as he immediately move his arm to punch me in the face, and after I was knocked down because of his punch, he quickly lifted me up from the floor to punch me again but out of the blue, before I receive his second punch... he suddenly paused when he heard his cellphone ringing on his pocket.

At that moment, Benjie immediately looked at his phone to check who is calling and after a second, he immediately went out into the classroom to answer the call with a smile on his face.

After that idiot (Benjie) went out, One of his friends named Gun suddenly approached me to help me stand up but I refused his help as I helped myself stand up but before as I stood up. My eyes suddenly sight one of the pages from the book that Benjie had thrown at me earlier so I thought to look at it as I stood up.

As I read what was written on that page, I suddenly remembered what Mr. Camacho said to me earlier.

"You can't defeat a monster if you don't know the ability of the things around you." (Mr. Camacho.)

*Evil smirk* (Kaito.)

"This may be the solution to everybody's desire to teach Benjie a lesson... A student petition against him is the only solution to cut his demonic horn... A petition to expel that bastard is the only way to make this university peaceful." (My thoughts as I smirk.)
