Chapter 13
Third person's POV
In the quiet room, the air hung heavy with tension as Gauravi hesitated, her eyes fixed on Mihir. "I can't hide this, Mihir. What if your family finds out later? What if they treat me differently? I don't want to start our life together with a secret."
Mihir, determined yet gentle, took her hand. "Gauravi, I know my parents, my dad is impulsive but my mom is very sorted, my Bhai is an angel and you know Mahi, she would never treat you badly. I understand your concerns, so we shouldn't tell anyone because we can't control how they all will react. What matters is us, and our commitment to each other. We can get married first, and when the time is right, we'll share the truth. My parents will understand; they know how much I love you." He said. Gauravi looked at her dad to say something.
"Mihir, honesty is the foundation of any relationship. Deception, even with good intentions, can lead to complications. We've known your family for years. I don't want to jeopardize the trust they have in us. He hid a fact from our friend Rahul and you know what happened. I don't want to hide anything from him. You are their son, it would hurt them if they came to know about it later. " Gautam raised an eyebrow and said.
" But sir, what is the need to tell them, I consider this child as mine. Then what is the point? " Mihir asked.
"Gautam is right. Secrets have a way of surfacing. It is not ethical to lie to your family. " Maurvi chimed in.
Mihir leaned forward, sincerity etched across his face. " Uncle, Aunty... I respect your concerns, but I can't stand the thought of Gauravi feeling judged or facing unnecessary gossip. Let's build a strong foundation first, and when the time is right, we'll share our truth. It's about protecting our happiness." He argued.
"Mihir, you're asking us to keep a significant secret. What if it backfires? What if your parents feel betrayed? They will get even more angry with her and they will never be able to accept her or the baby. We can't predict their reaction, and honesty is the best policy. " Siddh interjected,
Gauravi, torn between his love and ethical considerations, spoke softly, "I don't want to deceive anyone, Mihir. What if they don't accept me because of this? What if it affects our relationship later on? What if it affects your relationship with them? "
Mihir cupped Gauravi's face, his eyes filled with assurance. "Gauravi, I understand your fears, but our... my love is stronger than any external judgment. Let's face this together. I believe in us, and I believe in my parents' understanding. Trust me. "
" It's not about underestimating your parents' understanding. It's about starting our relationship with transparency and trust." Gauravi said.
" Mihir, I know you love her and don't want any complications for her but I know there will be complications if and when they come to know. They might forgive you since you are their blood but they would never talk to us. And if we are hiding facts from them we deserve such a punishment. I don't want to lose my friend. " Gautam said.
" Sir...uncle, I know you are scared to lose my parents as your friends. I will take the blame if anything happens like that since it is my decision to marry her, and it is my decision not to tell anyone about anything. Please allow me to do it. I would say that nobody knew anything about it. " He pleaded.
Gautam sighed, weighing the options. "Mihir, I value your sincerity, but trust is fragile. If we start our journey with a hidden truth, it might create rifts. However, I also see your point about protecting Gauravi from potential judgment, but It's a delicate issue."
Maurvi added, "Mihir, my dear, it's ultimately your decision. If you're willing to take this step, we'll stand by you. But I still think that you should not hide anything from your family."
" I know all the concerns, but Mihir is right about shielding Gauravi. People talk, and we can't control that. But we can control how we navigate through it. Let's trust Mihir's judgment and give this relationship the chance it deserves." Siddh spoke up.
Gauravi was grappling with conflicting emotions, so she turned to Mihir. "Are you sure about this, Mihir? I don't want to start our marriage with a lie."
Mihir took a deep breath. "Gauravi, I'm sure. Our love is the truth, and when the time is right, we'll share everything. I don't want you to carry unnecessary burdens. Let's focus on us, on our happiness."
Gautam, after a thoughtful pause, spoke, "Mihir, Gauravi, I want you both to understand the potential consequences. But I also trust your judgment, Mihir. If you believe this is the right path, then we, as your family, will support you."
Maurvi nodded, a mix of concern and understanding in her eyes. "Our priority is your happiness, Gauravi. If this is what you want, we'll stand by you."
"Let's hope Mihir's trust in his parents' understanding is well-placed. We'll support you both." Siddh said.
As the family was struggling with the inner turmoil and the decision, Mihir gave a reassuring smile, a silent promise that together they would tackle whatever challenges lay ahead.
" Mihir, go back to your duty. You are not staying here at night as well. You have been here since morning. " Gauravi said.
" I am not going anywhere till you are fine. " He said.
" No beta, you must go and complete your duty, go home and rest or else you will fall sick. " Maurvi said.
" That's even better, Aunty, I will get myself admitted here with her. " He said with a smile and looked at his love. She shook her head.
" Mihir, don't behave like a child, go home. We are here." Maurvi insisted again.
" Aunty, my would-be wife is admitted here in the hospital, I would be happy to get sick, if I get a chance to be with her. " He smiled.
" I will get you admitted to the children's ward. Because you are a stubborn child, how will you take care of her if you fall sick? " Maurvi said with a teasing smile. Siddh laughed at that.
" Please, don't do that, you have always been my favorite aunty, of all my mom's friends, and now, I am going to be your son very soon... " He smiled at her.
"Dr Mihir Shah, stop arguing with the patient's mom and go back to your duty, right away. No arguments!! Respect your seniors or you will be suspended." Gautam said scolding him like the owner of the hospital.
Just then Dr Vikram Singh Rathore ( the other owner and Vihan's dad) came rushing to the room.
He rushed to Gauravi placed a hand on her head and asked, " Gauravi, beta, how are you?" She smiled at him.
" Gautam, how did all this happen? I was in Mumbai to operate an actor. He was in a very bad condition, and could not come here for the treatment. I just came back and went to meet you in your cabin, your assistant told me that you would be here. " He said and hugged his best friend. Gautam told him how everything happened, hiding a few things. He was feeling guilty as they never hid anything from each other in their friendship of more than 45 years.
You have been here since morning, all of you go home, I am here, will take care of her, as it is, it's our hospital, and everyone is here to take care of her. Don't worry. Go home. " Vikram said.
" You have just returned after doing a surgery in Mumbai. You all go home, I will stay here in the hospital with her. And no arguments... You all have been working since morning, you need to rest, I was on leave for the day so I can stay here. " Maurvi said with authority.
" Maurvi, my love... " Gautam started to argue.
" Gautam, I said no arguments! You might be the boss in the hospital, but I am the boss at home, go home. Siddh, take your uncle home and punch this young doctor Mihir if he tries to stay here to flirt with the patient. " Maurvi said and all the others smiled. Finally, they all left.
