Chapter 12
Third person's POV
It had been two hours and Mihir was still standing there, in spite of Maurvi telling him to go and rest as they all were there. But he shook his head and politely refused to go, saying that he was fine and anyway couldn't leave while Gauravi was in this condition.
Gauravi looked at him again and asked him to go for his duty but he said that he would take the night shift.
" Mihir, please go... You will fall sick like that." Gauravi said.
" Don't worry about me, I am fine, and say whatever you want but I am also here with you, we will take care of the baby. You are a doctor, you know that we can do it. " He said and tears started flowing from her eyes.
Mihir's earnest declaration of wanting to marry Gauravi despite the heart-wrenching circumstances – the room was filled with a mixture of surprise and relief.
The Jindal family exchanged glances, and a palpable sense of gratitude washed over them. Mihir, the son of Gautam's dear friend and the scion of the wealthiest family in the country had just proven that his love for Gauravi transcended societal expectations.
Gauravi, however, felt a different storm raging within her. She sat on the hospital bed, her eyes clouded with guilt and doubt. The weight of her past decisions pressed heavily on her shoulders, and the notion that Mihir might be marrying her out of pity gnawed at her conscience. As Mihir continued to express his unwavering commitment, Gauravi's internal struggle intensified.
"Why, Mihir?" she finally spoke, her voice a fragile whisper. "I don't deserve your love, especially after everything. I rejected you, and now… now this. You don't have to do this out of pity. I can't let you ruin your life for me."
Mihir, with a determined gleam in his eyes, took her hands gently in his. "Gauravi, this isn't pity. I love you, with all your flaws and imperfections. I've known you since we were kids, and nothing can change how I feel about you. I want to be with you because I can't imagine my life without you. You're not ruining anything; you're completing everything." He said firmly.
The room was charged with emotions as Gauravi's family observed the exchange. Maurvi, her mother, wiped away tears of relief, while Siddh, her first cousin, looked on with a hint of approval. Gautam, her father, though concerned, saw Mihir's sincerity and couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude.
But Gauravi hesitated, wrestling with the guilt that threatened to consume her. "I hurt you, Mihir. I hurt you so much, and now you want to tie your life to mine. Why?"
Mihir's gaze remained unwavering, filled with an intensity that echoed his commitment. "Love isn't about perfection, Gauravi. It's about acceptance and understanding. I've accepted you, your past, and everything that comes with it. You're not alone in this; we face it together."
Gauravi's uncertainty lingered, casting a shadow over her emotions. Siddh, ever the protective brother, spoke up, "Gauravi, Mihir is not doing this out of pity. Can't you see how genuine he is? He loves you, and you deserve someone who truly cares for you. Mihir is that person, not that..." He bit his tongue when Gautam looked at him sharply and shook his head. He understood immediately that his uncle did not want him to talk about Shaurya.
Maurvi added her voice to the chorus of reassurance. "Gauravi, darling, sometimes in life, we get second chances. Whatever happened was not entirely your fault, you deserve a second chance and Mihir is offering you that chance. Don't let guilt overshadow the opportunity for happiness."
Gauravi understood all that but she had to think of Mihir's life as well.
" But mom..."
Gautam, her father, spoke with quiet authority, "Gauravi, my love, Mihir is a good man. His love for you is evident. I've known his family for years, and I trust him. Don't deny yourself the chance to be with someone who genuinely cares for you."
Gauravi, caught in the tug-of-war between her guilt and her family's unwavering support, felt overwhelmed. She closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face. She had two reasons for refusing. She was feeling guilty and thought that she didn't deserve such a man. And the other reason was that she knew someone who did deserve him as she came to know about that someone about a few weeks ago...
"I don't want to ruin his life, Dad. I don't want him to regret marrying me when he can get married to someone who can give him so much that he deserves. Please try to understand. " She said feeling helpless.
" Why do you think that you will spoil my life if you marry me? My life is already spoilt if don't. My life is nothing without you, I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with everything else, my only wish is to have you. I never wanted anything else in my life.' Mihir argued.
Gautam sighed, sitting beside his daughter on the bed. "Gauravi, life is unpredictable. We can't control everything. Mihir has made his choice, and you have a right to choose happiness too. Let go of the guilt; it won't serve you. Trust that he knows what he wants."
Siddh, ever the pragmatic brother, chimed in, "And if Mihir can accept you, flaws and all, then who are we to question his judgment? He's a grown man, and he's choosing you willingly. Let him."
Whatever everyone was saying was correct but how could she agree to it when she could not think of anyone but that man on the trip with her who saved her and made passionate love to her how could she forget that she didn't love Mihir the way... He deserved to be loved. What could he get out of this marriage with her?? He might feel trapped in the marriage later on with the child's responsibility who was not his blood.
Mihir, sensing the internal struggle, squeezed Gauravi's hands gently. "Gauravi, don't let fear dictate your choices. I know what I'm signing up for, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We face whatever comes together."
In that hospital room, amidst the beeping of machines and the scent of antiseptic, Gauravi's family rallied around her, urging her to embrace the love that had presented itself. The weight of their collective encouragement settled upon her, a reminder that, in the face of adversity, love had the power to mend even the most broken pieces.
" But, what will your family think of his decision? Mihir, how would you explain this whole thing to his family, relatives, or friends? " She asked him.
" There is no need to explain anything to anyone. " He said.
" What do you mean?? " Gauravi was shocked to hear his answer.
" I meant what I said, Gauravi. Why do we need to explain anything to anyone? It's our life. "
" Mom, Dad, look what he is saying, I know he loves me and would accept me in any condition. But his family would get upset when they would come to know the reality. I am sure he hasn't thought about it." Gauravi said looking at her parents. They nodded and looked at Mihir.
" We can get married as soon as possible, and in a month, we can tell them that you are pregnant, we would not have to say anything else. " He said.
" Are you out of your mind, half of the hospital knows by now that I am already pregnant. " She argued.
" Well, only a doctor and your family know that... we can request the doctor not to disclose anything about it. And in any case, she doesn't know anything about... She must have assumed that the child is mine since everyone knows in the hospital that we are engaged." He said with confidence but everyone else was surprised with what he said.
