Left Unsaid

There were so many things you left behind

Ever since that September rainy day.

Your cold hand holding mine,

You left a note without a goodbye.

I still feel your lip against mine

Like a warm and sweet lullaby

But the somber tone in that kiss

Left me hanging and I can't swing it by.

You said you needed to leave me,

That it was too much for you to handle.

You pushed me into the hurricane,

You thought without me you could survive.

You left me in scars and bruises - like

Broken glasses scattered on the floors or

Stems of roses left to be wilted.

Perhaps I was destined to be alone my time was wasted-

All because of the words you left unspoken!

Like gem and jewels covered in dirt and dust,

There were so many more to be discovered

But you never chose to uncover

What could've been done to save us?

Explanation

Sometimes people often kept things to themselves and thinking its for the better, only to make the matter worst. This poem showed you two perspective to look at in these type of situations:

 1) It showed you the reasons for why words are left unspoken. For one, he left her without giving a proper closure on why its over - simply stating ' it's too much' wasn't exactly a good reason for a breakup. What's too much? What can be done to make things better? for example. When people left things unsaid it's often because one was afraid of the others' reaction or perhaps he did not want to burden his loved ones. But sometimes, that is a selfish act. If that person is important to you and is literary a part of you - he/she should have the right to know. And if your loved one really loves you - they would still accept you and help you with whatever you're going through. Sometimes, more could've been done to 'save' a relationship if only both partners are completely honest with each other. Running away is never a solution.

 2) It showed you the consequences of leaving important words unspoken. He could've saved her from all the heartbreaks that felt like 'scars and bruises' if he were to tell her the reasons for their break up. Even if its because he no longer feels the same way, a gentle but direct confession would've at least showed some respect for her well being. Sure, she will still hurt but at least she wouldn't be left hanging in the false hope of ever getting back together again, it makes moving on much easier.

Words are so important, it can build one up or tear one down - and if you feel like the words are too hard to say aloud, then perhaps you should show them how you feel instead.
