Sick Lucifer

Lhori was walking from the kitchen with a heavy tray. When she reached Lucifer's room Beel, who was guarding his door, perked up.

"Lhori? What are you doing here?" he asked surprised.

"I came to see Lucifer," she said simply putting her tray down.

"Now?" asked Beel baffled. "You don't want to go there now. He's a real pain when he's sick." He smirked. "Even more than normal. Can you imagine that?"

"Well, I don't care," she replied crossing her arms. "He is sick and feeling unwell and what are his brothers doing? Planning how to overthrow him while he's vulnerable, and mocking him!"

"Well, what else should we do?" the demon asked dumbfounded.

"Care for him!" she hissed. "Whatever, I'm going in, don't you dare to stop me. I brought food."

"You know I have to try it first, right?" Beel asked his eyes shining.

"Yes, I know. I brought more," she replied and poured the soup into the bowl and handed it to him.

"Mmm, it's really good," he mumbled with his mouth full. He moved so she could get into the room.

Lucifer was lying in his enormous bed, surrounded by used tissues. His nose was all red, his eyes puffy. He looked miserable. He spotted at her and scowl.

"What do you think you doing here?" he barked at her. "I didn't invite you, get out!"

"I brought you food and tea," she said unperturbed. It was not the first time she was dealing with a sick man.

"I don't want your food, now go away!" he repeated, but there was no edge in his words, he sounded tired and resigned.

"I'm not going anywhere," she said putting the tray on his bedside table and pouring the soup into the bowl. "Unless you prefer the parade of doctors sent by lord Diavolo?"

His eyes narrowed. "He sent you here?"

"No. He overheard how I was scolding Mammon and Satan for teasing you so much. And when he heard I'm going to check up on you he asked me to send him an update on your health." She sat on the bed next to him, ignoring his protests. "So, do you want me to go away and tell him you are in a dire need of doctors?" she asked with a sweet smile.

"You're even worse than my brothers" he huffed.

"Good decision. Now, eat this soup, it will help you recover quickly. Open your mouth," she asked playfully waving a spoon at him.

"I can eat a damn soup by myself!" he barked, sat up, and took the bowl from her. She smiled brightly.

"Good for you! Eat up, I'll make you a lemon and honey tea. You need to drink plenty of warm liquids."

He was eating in silence. He didn't comment on the soup, but he wasn't displeased, so it couldn't be terrible in taste.

"You look pretty awful," she said sitting back on the bed with a cup of tea for him in her hands.

"Thank you very much, Lhori. If you want to cheer me up, you are doing a crappy job."

"Oh, don't be so sensitive, Lucifer. I didn't know that demons get sick too."

"Well, we do, as you can see. And it's a very severe bug, no human could survive."

"Yeah, sure. It looks, like a common cold to me," she said teasingly.

"Lhori, I'm warning you. The fact I'm sick doesn't mean I'm unable to throw you out of my room at any moment," he said grudgingly.

"Oh, I'm just teasing you, dummy," she said laughing. "Now, if you are done eating, I brought you some paperwork from the council. I bet you are bored to death after just half a day lying in bed. I can help you get through it. What do you say?"

"Don't you have anything better to do?" he asked surprised, sipping his tea.

"Not at the moment, no," she shrugged. "So? Are we going to work or what?"

"Ok, let's give it a shot."

"Fine, move over then, I have to sit next to you so you can see the papers."

"Ugh, you are unexpectedly bossy for a human," he moaned, but he moved over, and she sat next to him, their shoulders touching. "Aren't you afraid you'll catch the bug?"

"Well, I hope it only torments demons," she replied laughing.

They were going through the papers. Lhori was reading the reports and Lucifer was listening and dictating replies or letters. After an hour they've done more than half of the reports. Lhori was asking something, but he wasn't replying.

"Lucifer?" she asked and looked at him. His eyes were closed.

"I think we should stop, for now, I'm really tired," he mumbled sleepily.

"That's fine. I'll just take the papers and get out of your hair then," she replied and sat up.

"Wait." He took her hand in his. She felt a shiver going through her, feeling his bare skin. He always wore gloves, so he never actually touched her like that. He opened his eyes with an effort. "Stay with me for a few moments, ok? Your shoulder is very comfortable."

"Uhm... ok." She sat back and Lucifer leaned his head on her shoulder and closed his eyes again.

"Lhori?" he asked after a moment.

"Hmm?"

"Can... can you sing me something?"

"But I don't have my guitar..."

"You don't need it. I just... find your voice very comforting. You can sing whatever. Even ABC song would be fine, as long as you sing it."

"Ok, then." She started to sing a simple, slow song, she doesn't even know where she heard. She started brushing his hair absentmindedly. He only purred like a cat and soon his breath slowed, and he fell asleep. She felt her eyelids were very heavy and she closed them only for the moment. But darkness engulfed her in mere seconds.

She woke up with a start, seeing an unfamiliar ceiling and bed far too big to be hers.

"Oh, shoot!" she moaned.

"Good morning to you too, Lhori," she heard a mocking voice. She turned on her side to see Lucifer lying next to her. He propped his head on his elbow observing her with a playful smile.

"I'm so sorry, Lucifer," she blurred. "I don't even know when I fell asleep, I didn't plan it!"

"That's fine, I asked you to stay anyway, didn't I? No harm is done. But you snore."

"No, I'm not!" she protested, feeling her cheeks going red.

"Yes, you are!" he laughed. "But don't worry, it's still cute snoring."

"Don't you dare to tell anyone!"

"It will be our little secret," he smiled and tucked a loose strand of hair from her face behind her ear.

"You look much better, than yesterday," she said trying to hide her surprise at that gentle touch.

"I feel better. Thank you for taking care of me, Lhori. Even if I didn't ask you too."

"Yeah, you weren't particularly welcoming either," she teased.

"I'll make it up to you. I need to go back to RAD to catch up on things. But how about I take you out for dinner sometime next week?"

"You don't have to do that, you know," she protested. "I didn't do it to get an incentive."

"I know, but I want to."

Suddenly the door to the room burst open and Mammon and Levi run inside in the middle of the argument.

"Lucifer, you have to talk some sense to that idiot! He..." Levi started but then stopped dead in shock. Mammon who was running on his heels bumped into him.

"Oi! Levi, what..." Then he looked at the bed where Lucifer and Lhori were sitting close together. "Woah! What the hell?! Lucifer, you bastard! What is Lhori doing in your bed?!"

Lucifer only smiled lazily and put his arm around Lhori's shoulders.

'"Things you can only dream of doing, Mammon," he said suggestively. "Now get out of my room, or I'll make sure you won't be able to walk anytime soon!"

Both brothers run away immediately, their faces bright red.

"Well, that was quite unnecessary, wasn't it?" Lhori sighed.

"Maybe not, but they just walked into it, didn't they?" he said laughing, and then suddenly pressed a quick kiss on her temple and got out of bed. "As much as I'd like to stay in bed, it's time to get up. I've got a lot to catch up." He extended his hand to help her out of bed.
