Chapter 23
I starred up at the ceiling from my bed. I didn't know how long I've been looking up and just thinking. Flashes of her creamy skin and soft lips kept soaring in my mind. Why did I kiss her? Had it been her sweet smell? The look in her eyes? The pull that her lips seemed to have on me? I remember the pure surprise I felt as she grabbed my hand. it wasn't all me that's for sure. But I crossed the line when I kissed her, so I pulled away and apologized then left. I had to practically force myself out the door and not to turn around instead.
That night I dreamed of her. I was out in a filed on a sunny day. she came to me and placed her arms around my next, then gazed at me lovingly. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her close, loving the feeling of her near me.
Soon the clouds became dark and the sun disappeared as her eyes grew dark and evil. "You should of known it would come to this" she said as a knife appeared out or nowhere in her hand. She gave me one more wicked smile before she stabbed me in the heart.

I woke up gasping for air as norman shook me awake. His face wore worry and concern.
"Are you ok your grace?" He asked
"No" I admitted truthfully, as I rubbed my my hands over my face.
"I don't know what I am even doing anymore" I confessed.
He's look softened.
"What did you dream about?" He asked .
"Death"
He stood up and walked across the room to bring me my breakfast.
"Everyone dies." He pointed out simply.
"Norman what if I told you that someone might try to kill me." I asked
He looked at me oddly then answered.
"I would tell you that it's just a dream"
"What if it wasn't?" I asked.
"Then I would tell you to kill him first."
"That's the thing" I said "it's not exactly a 'he' " I admitted.
I had no idea why I started to tell him about Cora but I just did. I needed someone to talk to about it and someone who would give me there none bias opinion, and that would be norman. I told him of what I had learned and what Cora had told me about the mountain people and her uncles orders to kill them. I told him of my worries of my mother, and now she most likely isn't even my mother. I told him about Cora's suspicions of her uncle, which I could tell made norman uncomfortable.
"So what do you think?" I asked him helplessly awaiting some advice that I couldn't get anywhere else.
"About what exactly? Her uncle? Your mother? Or Cora?" He said as his face lights up at her name.
I didn't say anything, but I guess I didn't need to. He walked to the table and pulled up a chair right in front of my bed and sat backwards in it.
"You said she tried to kill you?" He asked.
"Many times" I said. I recalled three but those are just the ones I know about.
"When was the last time?" He asked.
"I don't know, maybe a week ago." Why did it matter?
"Why do you think she stopped trying ?" He asked.
I didn't really think about that, I guess she was to busy dealing with her uncle.
"Because she wanted to know more about us, what we are. Now that she knows it's only a matter of time now"
"You know what I think" he said " I think you have got nothing to worry about. She wouldn't harm you. I might just be in the showdowns about this but I am not blind. I see the way she looks at you. You fascinate her." He smiled a bit but saw my doubt. He let out a breath.
"Alright then, have it your way. Even if your right and she hates you down to your core, she still wouldn't harm You. You both are the only ones of your kind that you know of left so she isn't going to kill you and be alone." He finished and I had no choice but to agree. If norman knew one thing it was woman. except when it came to beth, then he was just a rambling fool.
"if you are so worried about it why don't you just tell your father about it all? He asked "he could have the king looked into and could arrest Cora for attempted murder. That would take care of all this mess real quick."
I thought about doing that, but couldn't. I don't think I could watch Cora be hauled off like that. When I didn't answer he put one and Two together.
"You fancy her don't you? He asked "Not just like the girls back at our kingdom But different, real"
The looked on my face reviled everything. I wish I didn't. I tired so hard not to, but did. Damn I did.
"Your defiantly in for it"

I entered my mothers chambers after she said I could come in. The room smelled of cherries and lavender. My mother came to me and hugged me tightly, she was so short I had to bend down to embrace her.
"What earns me this lovely visit? She asked.
I wasted no time in getting to the point.
"mother," I asked. "Am I even your child?"
"Of corse you are, did you hit your head?" She said as she looked at me from head to toe. "What's wrong?" She asked.
"I know everything. I know about the mountain people, and I know that I am one. What I don't know is you. I said truthfully as I watched my mothers face grow into one of worry. "How do you fit?" I asked. Did she just find me in a stream and decided to take me in to?
"No, don't be silly. You are my child, and I gave birth to you. She said as she took my arm and lead me to the couch and sat us both down.
"Son" she started but didn't finish. She looked afraid to tell me.
"Please mother" I begged.
"I am not a queen nor am I a princesses." She said as she took the crown off her head and looked at it.
"I ran away" she said. "I ran away from Rosanna, the village that use to be up in the mountains."
I looked at her confused. She's one of us?
"They kicked me out. they said I was a default, a human. I guess the evolutionary genes must of skipped a generation" she said sadly. Then her face grew a smile.
"I must of walked for days, I was so tired I couldn't feel my feet. Then your father came riding up and spotted me. I'll never forget the look on his face" she said with a smile. "He offered me a ride back to his kingdom and since I was near death I accepted. We talked for hours on the way back, on the back of his horse. by the time we got to his kingdom it felt like I knew him for years. Unfortunately he was engaged to a snoopy little princess so it didn't go much feather then friendship for awhile. One day he just went up to his father and refused to marry the girl, he said he knew of a better fit for him and the kingdom. His father told him to bring the girl he thought of a better choice. Your father then had papers and documents forged for me. He made me a princesses" she said smiling.
So she is my mother after all, and My father was my real father as well. She just wasn't who she said she was. Out of all the possibilities I thought of, this was not one.
"It took two years and a tone of fights with his parents until they agreed that he could marry me."
"Now you know why your father is so dead set on making sure you marry someone you want to." She said "He almost didn't get that chance."
