Chapter Thirteen
"Lux?" Skye asked. Lux turned to her, an unreadable expression on his face.
It's evening and they had just set up camp, in a clear area, surrounded by tall grasses.
"I don't feel so good," Skye said, her face gone pale and her eyes turned foggy.
Lux's frowned just a little.
"I guess your lucky I know my medicine. I know it very well." He touched her forehead. Frowned deeper. Touched her wrist. Widened his eyes.
"Oh my-"
Skye didn't hear the rest. Everything went blindingly white for a second before she felt Lux's panicked shaking.
"Damn it... No, no... Hey. Hey! Skye!"
Skye opened her eyes.
"Skye, do not go to sleep! What the hell..." Lux stumbled to his bag, searching for something. Right before Skye closed her eyes again, Lux pinched her shoulder.
"I've never seen it take over so fast... Skye, Skye, do you remember-"
Skye saw the blinding light again.
"Oh my God... Princess! This is really important!"
When Skye opened her eyes again, Lux's hair was a mess, his eyes in a frenzy. For a second, she saw his hair turn a duller shade of red, like faded blood that someone had tried to wash away many, many times. Then his eyes changed into different colors.
"Princess! Listen to me! Okay... Okay. Can you nod for me?"
Skye managed a weak nod.
"Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary about me? My expression?" His eyes lit up for a second "Did I look remotely like Blaise, or like someone you didn't know?"
Skye thought back to the weird expression he gave her the last day. She nodded.
Realization dawned on his face. "Okay, you don't have to stay up anymore. Actually, that might be worse-"
Skye stopped listening and closed her eyes. Stopped fighting it. She vaguely felt something pour into her mouth.
Skye felt as if needles were stabbing her stomach, her head felt like cement and her arms felt like lead. Her skin felt hot to the touch and her eyes stung.
Skye finally fell into a restless sleep, tossing and turning.
Skye opened her eyes. There was darkness everywhere. Nothing. She was alone. Completely alone. Silent.
Suddenly a word appeared before her.
Blaise
The word kept echoing through her mind, appearing before her, no matter where she turned. Haunting her.
But who was Blaise? She couldn't remember. She felt like she should know it, like it was somehow important. But if it was important, how could she forget it?
She shuddered and her mind went still.
A scene unfolded in her mind, like a story unfolds in a theater.
It was of when she was younger, maybe four or five. She was sitting on the beach, alone except for Danner watching her, other kids played together around her, while she played alone.
Suddenly, a little black haired boy, her age, walked up to her.
" I'm Blaise. My mom wants us to be friends..." He murmured.
"Okay..." Skye, replied curiously, happy to have a new friend.
Suddenly the ocean, the beach and the little boy all disappeared.
Why was this scene so important? Did she know the boy?
A new scene unfolded.
She recognized this scene instantly. It was at her parents house, as Nana died.
She was crying and sobbing and mourning her grandmother's death.
The same boy from the beach was comforting her, telling her it would be okay, that they would get through this. He did it again in a new scene, this time at the funeral of her parents. Both presumed dead.
Why was this boy so important?
Skye woke up with a scream, she was covered in sweat, panting. Her skin felt cold and clammy. But only one thing was on her mind.
Blaise
Blaise
Blaise
Blaise
Blaise
Blaise
Blaise
Blaise
Blaise
