Chapter Sixteen

Skye's POV

Silence.

"Hello?"

More silence.

I'm alone. Surrounded by a veil of darkness. I press the palm of my hand into my temples.

I don't want to be alone. I can already feel the tears slowly running down my cold cheeks.

The darkness is swallowing me up. Leaving me a bitter taste in my mouth. No. This can't be happening. Let this be a dream.

Help. Help me. Please

My thoughts echo through the empty darkness. Unknown. Unheard.

Is this how I die? Completely isolated? It's everywhere. Everywhere I go. Everywhere I see.

There's no escaping it.

"Everyone dies eventually." A voice says behind me.

I slowly turn around. In front of me is a figure. He's cloaked in death. Pressing against his papery skin was hair barely visible in the nothingness.. He has piercing eyes that remind me of blood, looking straight through me.. Right into my soul, straight into the center, right into the deepest, darkest parts of it that I've tried so hard to hide.

"Hello, Skye." He says, his voice deep, with a slight rasp to it.

"Who are you?" I ask, my voice trembling in fear.

"I think you already know." His red eyes darken even more. "I'm Death." He chuckles. "Why?" I ask. "Why do this? Why kill me now?"

He laughs, ignoring my question.

He disappears and I'm all alone again.

"Hello?"

Silence.

He left.

What now? Does that mean I'll stay alive?

Before my thoughts can go any further Death comes back.

Black magic starts spewing from his palms. It starts covering me.

It hurts. It stings my eyes. It feels like cold flames licking up my sides.

I'm shrouded in it.

In front of me lies a dead body.

I scream.

I recognize it. It's me. Blonde hair splayed out around me, blue eyes open, blank, lifeless. I'm covered in blood.

The scene changes. I'm alone. Inside my tent. Dead. Dead without anyone knowing. Dead because of this strange sickness. Alone.

I tremble. But the last one was the worst. Death appears, apathetic to my broken state. "So, which death will it be?"
