Me and Finn are sitting in the hospital lobby, along with Jake, Paige, David, Zander and Kenzie. We are all waiting for the doctors and nurses to let us go, let us go out of this hospital and to our so called new home. Well no matter what, it's got to be better than the edge.

"You are free to go now, free to roam the world as you please. Nurse Stacey says."

We all, except for me, walk out of the hospital, I run, I don't want to be near any major authority anymore, it gives me the chills. I'm just afraid that if I get in trouble again, I will get thrown in jail, or worse sent back into the edge, or even worse, killed. We all run down the road, passing buildings, dogs, trees, ponds.

We ran for about 15 minutes, but everyone was tired so we are taking a break, we are sitting on the edge of a fountain, dipping our hands into the water and cooling off. It's weird really, this fountain is nothing like the one in the edge, it's beautiful, grey and brown rocks moulded into a fountain, it's so shiny, like someone waxes it every day, the water is like a million little crystals mixed with silvery ocean waves.

Then I remember that Kaelin gave me a note, and that I still have it, I shoved it in my shoe! I take it out and begin to read it.

Dear Kali,
This is a message from your older self, before Nick took your memory away. The only reason your getting this note is because I failed, you failed. I gave it to Kaelin, trusting that he would give it to me if I ever got my memory taken away. If you ever end up seeing him again, you need to thank him, you owe him your life.
You were born on March 9th, 2025, but you probably know that because at the hospital in central Winnipeg, you were probably just there, don't ask me how I know that though. Your house that you grew up in, well, that you, I, lived in until I was almost 13. The address was, 475 Evergreen drive, Winnipeg, Canada. You lived in a little cottage, just outside of the city. Your mom, she's a police officer, she always tried to teach you to be good, and never hurt anyone, but you always wanted to do the opposite. And when you did, when she found out, that you liked hitting or punching people, that you were the school bully, she would hurt you back, she abused you, physically and mentally, every day, since you were 10. She told you that if you hurt people, she's gonna hurt you. So, you ran away, you came to the terrorist group Eland. You killed people. Your one of the most wanted criminals in Canada. You can't trust anyone. Because everyone's after you, stay hidden, go back to Eland H.Q, now!

Everyone's after me? My mom abused me? I'm a wanted criminal? Wait, my mom abused me! But....she's a police woman? Why would a police woman abuse her own kid? I though polices were good? But I guess I was wrong. Next time I see her......well, she's in for it. Should I stay, and live in that home for teens, or should I take my own advice and go to Eland's head quarters? Even if I did chose to go to Eland, I don't even know where it is. And I would want Finn to come with me, but what if he said no? Then, I wouldn't go.

"So, where's that home that we're gonna stay in?" Paige asks.

"Oh, it's right there, across the street!" David says.

"Okay, I was just wondering." Paige says.

"Where's Jake?" I ask.

"Remember, he's over 18, so he couldn't come." Finn says.

"Oh yeah. And Finn, can I talk to you?" I ask.

"Sure Kali." Finn says. We walk about 15 meters away from everyone else.
