Chapter 1

When I was walking down the stairs, I almost tripped over a hole in them.
Again I forgot to fix the hole.
"Someone is going to die because of that hole eventually." Daniel said.
Daniel is my friend that lives with me. We both grew up in the same orphanage and we both ran away from it. We hated living there and because they have many orphans there they didn't even noticed we were gone.
"Are you really going to joke like that even today?" I asked.
"Especially, today."
"The reaping is today, doesn't it stress you?" I asked.
"Ofcourse it does. This year eleven of kids will get picked from our district." He answered.
"It's not fair that district 1 picks only one kid." I said.
"True but we and district 12 have bigger chances of winning. District 12 picks 12 kids."
I started nervously making myself something to drink.
When you live in a orphanage that's full of kids, almost every year someone from there gets picked. And no one ever from the orphanage has ever survived the games.
I got flashbacks from watching my friends die on the arena and dropped the glass with water.
"Fuck, I'll clean this up." I said and wanted to pick up the glass when Daniel took my hand.
"It's okay, everything will be fine." He said and I quickly hugged him.
"Those members hunts me too." He added.
"All of those kids brutally killed, like they were nothing."
The odds rarely are in District 11's favour, the Capitol seemed to forget the incident that happened 101 years ago but did they?
Living here was and never will be easy. We are not allowed to eat any of the things we sell because everything goes to the Capitol. Despite that me and Daniel aren't starving that much because there is only two of us.

We arrived at reaping.
Finney which me and Daniel call the weird Capitol lady, got on the stage.
After some useless talk she finally went over the one huge bowl with many slips.
"This year the number of picked kids will be equal to the number of the District."  She said.
"Let's begin."
Finney slowly took out the first slip.
"Rowan Elliott!"
I knew this girl, she was one of the kids from the orphanage. When I left she was 12 and I was 16. Now she is 14 and I'm 18.
Finney took the second slip...
"Christy Alamuddin!"
...and then the third slip...
"Bailey Quartz!"
...and the fourth one...
"Ben Tolkien!"
...and the fifth one...
"Khalid Wire!"
...and the sixth one...
"Daniel Evans!"
No, no, no.
Everyone but Daniel.
I was just about to volunteer when someone did it before me.
"I volunteer as a tribute!"
A 14 year old girl came out of the crowd.
"What's your name?" Finney asked.
"Sapphire Marsh." She answered.
The girl got on the stage and Daniel went back to the crowd.
Who was that girl?
I don't remember her being in the orphanage.
It doesn't matter now, all that matters that he is safe.
Finney took the seventh slip...
"Nyla Topper!"
...and the eight one...
"Autumn Trason!"
My heart stopped.
The peacekeepers took me on stage.
No one volunteered, no one said anything.
I couldn't believe it.
Then she took the ninth slip...
"Paula Edward!"
...and the tenth one...
"Bolt Poach!"
...and the eleventh one, the last one.
"Hans Roberts!"
"This tributes will take part in 175th Hunger Games which is the 7th Quarter Quel, may the odds me ever in your favour!"

...

I met with Daniel before going on the train.
"Autumn, I'm sorry, I should have volunteered." He cried.
"It's okay, don't blame yourself." I answered.
"Take the bow when you get there, it's the weapon you know how to use." He said.
"I will, don't worry about me."
"I will be okay, I promise." I added.
We hugged close, closer than ever.
"Who is Sapphire?" I couldn't hold myself from asking.
"She's a girl that I work with, one time she was starving on the street and I gave her the loaf of bread I had. She owed me one." He explained.
"I don't what I would do if she didn't volunteer for you. I can't lose you." I said.

Daniel is the only reason why I have to come back.

...

On the train, I didn't talk with anyone.
All of those people will be dead soon, I don't want to feel pain after they die.
Our three mentors came in.
54 year old Darla who won the 136th games, 42 year old Fiona from 148th Games and 21 year old Ian from 172nd games.
"This year games won't be the same as always." Darla started.
"This year you will have to deal with 78 tributes on the arena. 77 of them are going to die." She continued.
"Better start now looking for someone you can trust. But remember to chose carefully."
"What if someone goes solo?" I asked.
"Normally, you would have bigger chances of survival. Now with 77 enemies, anyone can kill you in your sleep." Darla answered.
"Listen to Darla, she knows what she's doing." Ian said.

...

It was crowded on the train.
Out of all years I had to get picked when there are eleven people in total instead of two.
Even our stylist felt overwhelmed with amount of us.
A day before the parade we got to the place where we had to stay.
It wasn't like anything in District 11.
We got full plates of food, it was weird for me to eat them since in District 11 we can't eat the food we make.
"Hey, Autumn." Rowan took my arm when I wanted to go to my room.
"Are you avoiding me?" She asked.
"Oh, it's not you. I mean it is but not only you. I avoid everyone here."
"I just wanted to talk to you." Rowan replied.
"What is it?" I rolled my eyes.
"You left the orphanage just like that and thought I won't even ask questions?" She noticed the fact that I was annoyed.
"No, I didn't think what will you do about it."
"I was so worried about you. I was your friend and you left me just like that."
"Ro, listen-"
"Don't call me like that."
"Yeah, whatever. Ro, I didn't mean to leave you, I just wanted to leave that horrible place."
"But why didn't you take me with you?" She asked.
"You were too young, we were scared that we wouldn't be able to take care of you."
"You wanted to take care of me? Please, you never cared about anyone." She said.
"I care about Daniel." I said.
"But do you care about anyone except him?"
