Chapter Twenty Seven: Sing!

"The house was electric tonight!" Lin said excitedly as he put his hair up in a bun. My legal guardian could do buns, but I couldn't. Then again, my dad could braid. I guess it's just gendernormative that guys didn't know how to do hair.

"I noticed that, the applause sounded like thunder from up here," I commented from where I laid on the couch.

He took of the coat and unbuttoned the frilly shirt, "About that, why don't you ever watch the second act?"

"Too sad," I answer simply. I still couldn't bare the thought of another parent dying.

"Gotcha," Lin didn't ask anymore questions. I went back to reading as he changed to street clothes.

"Okay," Lin finished packing his backpack, "Lets stagedoor, then get your stuff from you apartment."

"Sure," I respond dreading the stagedoor. I knew the fans deserved and wanted signed stuff, but I just hated standing there looking like an idiot as Lin signed things. He carried his bag and we walked down the hall, Lin said bye to Chris, and descended down the stairs.

"Do you like stagedooring?" Lin asked.

I shrugged, "I'm just kinda there. I don't really do anything for the show, so.."

"Why don't you talk to the fans?" Suggested Lin as we neared the stagedoor.

"Why? They're not going to want me to sign anything," I asked confused. Lin rolled his eyes and handed me his bag.

"Put that on," he said before squatting down, "Then get on my back."

"You're not serious," I stated blushing in embarrassment. I'm fifeteen; I can walk.

"You're right, I'm not Sirius. I'm Lin. Now get on," Lin joked seriously.

"What's up,Simba?" Daveed greeted before noticing Lin, "And why is Lin crouched down?"

"Daveed, put her on my back," Lin ignored his friend's question.

Daveed looked at me to Lin in ultimate confusion, "What?"

"Just do it, you owe me for the cafecito thing," Lin argued.

Daveed shrugged, "Whatever, sorry Simba."

Daveed lifted me up onto Lin's back despite my protests.

"Okay, let's stagedoor," Lin said and opened the door. Screams instantly filled the air as fangirl screams went to their maximum. If my hands hadn't been around Lin's shoulders they would've been on my ears.

"Hello, hello, hello!" Lin greeted. The fans cheered in response. I handed Lin a sharpie from his backpack pocket, "Gracias, Alondra."

He went to his first fan and signed their Playbill from a past performance (Groff had signed it).

"Can I get a picture, please," asked the young girl. I think she was eleven.

Lin smiled, I think (I couldn't see), "Of course."

They took a picture and I hid behind Lin's head and tried not to ruin their picture. Lin spent like four minutes in that section before moving onto the next. The screaming had died down, but anticipation hung throughout the air and was almost thick enough to grab it.

"Hi Lark, right?" asked a boy, a teenager who was maybe thirteen. Lin had just signed his autograph book.

"Yeah?"

"Can I get your autograph? I'm a big fan of your Youtube account." He asked unsurely.

I grinned, "Yeah of course. Lin, can I borrow your sharpie?"

"Yeah, Alondra, of course," Lin handed me his sharpie and the guys book.

I tightened my leg grip on Lin and quickly wrote the guy a message:

This is my first autograph! Thank you! Love, Lark Evans.

I handed the boy his book and fixed my grip on Lin.

"Ready to go?" he asked me quietly.

"Yup, let's finish moving me in."

The drive up to my old apartment was short, well for New York it was. I couldn't help but to think about the flight tomorrow morning. After landing in Omaha, we'll hitch the hour and forty-five minute drive with Lizbeth back home. We'd be staying with my crazy grandma Katherine for the couple days that we're in town. She had a piano, so Lin could work. And I'll go to my mother's wake and funeral.

"Let's get your stuff," Lin opened his car door and I followed suit. Silently, we went up the stairs and I opened the door. I had put the bags by the door; a suitcase and a small duffel. The suitcase had miscellaneous items (mostly blankets and clothes), the small duffel had medication and health items. I even grabbed the nebulizer because I got bronchitis at least once a year. I looked around at the apartment. I had lived here roughly three years, I started my Youtube channel here. And now it's time to say goodbye...

"Lin, help me do something," I grinned.

"What?" He asked slowly.

"I wanna do one last video here to say goodbye and why not have a new part of my life help me with that?" I answered.

"Now that," Lin pointed at me, "is super smart. Let's go."

"Yes!" I grabbed the Ipad out of the suitcase and sat down on the couch, "Now, what song do we want to do?"

"Alright, ready?" I looked over at Lin who was staying off camera. He nodded and gave me thumbs up. I smiled and took a breathe, "In three, two.."

"I am back! What's up Youtube! I got another song today, it's called Champagne from the Tony winning, Broadway musical In The Heights by the epic Lin-Manuel Miranda. I have a guest filling in for Usnavi's part, but he wishes to be out of the shot until the end. I hope you enjoy my cover."

I started the music on my phone and started singing.

I smiled at the camera, slightly out of breath. I looked over at Lin, who had his phone out and recording.

"Alright, as I promised, my duet partner," I scooted over and gestured for Lin to come into frame. He excitedly ran and slid.

"That's my daughter, guys!" He exclaimed.

I grinned, "I got Lin to do a video with me to celebrate me moving in with him. Vanessa and him are fostering me."

"One of the greatest things I've ever done," Lin commented. That meant more than he'll ever know.

"Well, I hope you liked this video. Bye!"

"Bye!"

I turned off the camera on the Ipad and picked it up. I excitedly turned to Lin who was putting away his phone, "That was great! I'll edit it tomorrow and post it."

"I'll post the video I took on Twitter, the fandom will be real," He started, "Okay, Alondra, let's grab your stuff and jet."

"Yeah," I nodded. With the good memories of this place, came bad ones filled of my drunken mother and I refused to remember her like that. I'll remember her as the hardworking, caring mother that I had known as a child. Silently, but happily, I picked up my duffel and Lin grabbed my suitcase. I locked the door and went to return the key to Mr. Jerry as Lin went to the car. I joined him and placed my duffel in the back. We went home with rap songs playing on the radio. And I felt the most at peace than I have in a long time .
