Part 15 Type

Angie and Erin set up a command center in Damien's room at the Ellis Hotel. It was easier to sort through his stuff there than haul it across town.

Forensics developed a usable print from the shell casing found at the murder scene. It belonged to the right forefinger of a skell well known to various law enforcement agencies across the country as Robert Shockley. The FBI's AFIS report included two pictures. Sandy texted them to the Dahlonega chief of Police, who showed them to the Mailstop manager.

"That's him. That's Bobby Shorts. He is the guy that's got those girls."

That ID solidified the connection of Robert Shockley to the murder of Damien Hammond and the kidnapping of Melody Lansing. They knew what kind of vehicle he was driving, thanks to the store manager but unfortunately, they had no known address for Bobby Shorts. It was a pretty safe bet if they found the house in Druid Hills, they would find Shockley.

Angie took a call from Captain Miller, the commander of Major Crimes. He told her that Lt. Jenkins had briefed him on the possible link between her homicide and the kidnapping/trafficking case. Because of the crossover, he had put Field Operations and the Special Ops Division on alert. Given the sensitivity of the neighborhood. He was going to assign an overall coordinator.

Angie's heart sank. She expected the next words from her chief would be to put her boss, Dan Jenkins in charge. She told Miller that the link between the two cases had just been confirmed through forensics and that they needed to move quickly.

"I agree. But Angie, I don't need SWAT rushing in there and shooting up the neighborhood. Use them surgically. I have set up a space for you at Precinct Six. That is the closest precinct to Druid Hills. They are expecting you. You are in charge, Angie."

Captain Miller gave her contact info for SWAT and SVU and told her a detective by the name of Holloway had information on the kidnapping and would meet her at the Sixth.

While Angie was getting her orders, Erin had been checking Damien's emails. As Angie was about to finish, Erin waved in her face. "I got it. I got the address."

They passed the address to the chief, who promised a warrant and a full workup on the property by the time they got to the precinct.

"I found nothing in the inbox, sent mails, or trash, so I checked the Drafts folder, like you said. Damien had saved it there." She spun the laptop around for Angie to read.

Angie read the report twice. It gave them everything they needed, but something felt slightly off. She hit a few keys and frowned. Turning the laptop back to Erin, she pointed to a paragraph in italics. "According to this metadata," she told Erin, "this was typed an hour ago. Damien's been dead for two days."

Erin looked up. "So who wrote this?"

Damien peered into the shadows. Mick should be here somewhere. He whispered "Mick" and then realized that no one but the older cop could hear him. He called louder.

"I'm here," the detective responded. "The girls are in the basement. They look ok now, but Angie better get here soon. They are planning to move them tonight."
