Work Life
(Back to Aka's POV)
You would expect my first day back to be hard, nerve-shattering, and all together absolute insanity. It wasn't. Everyone remembered me and greeted me with open arms. A few distasteful comments here and there but nothing much. "Investigator Takumi! You're still alive? Awesome!" A boy commented. "Have we met?" I asked. "No. I'm new sir. I've heard stories about you." He confessed. I ruffled his hair. "Neat." I kept walking. I saw Kyoya outside, writing in his little black book as usual. "Hey." I whispered. I wrapped my arms around him from behind. "What do you think-" I put my hand over his mouth. "Wait for it." I said. "Back at it again, Takumi? Man, I thought you gave up on that!" An officer friend shouted. "Why on Earth would you think such a thing?" I fist-bumped him. "You-" I shushed Kyoya again. "Sorry. It's just a game. It's my work life." My friend gave Kyoya a surprised look and bowed to him. "Hey, he's chill. Stand up before you pass out, ya stupid." I joked. "Kyoya, this is Renji Yashakuji. An old friend of mine from training." He stiffened and then bowed again. "I apologize for my disorderly conduct sir." He said with conviction. It almost broke my non-existent heart. "It's not me you should say that to." Kyoya flicked the tip of his pen to me and went back to writing. "He held up?" Renji asked excitedly. "He held up." I confirmed. "Yes! It will be so much more chill with you here! The old coger we have now doesn't do his job." Renji complained. "You wish. He does his job perfectly well in my opinion." I shot back. "Remember that time I asked your opinion?" Renji asked me. Before I could answer, he let out a bark of laughter and said, "Neither do I!" We laughed and for a moment, and I thought I saw Kyoya smile. "Let's get to work. The old man moved out already?" I asked. K yoya followed behind. "Yes sir." He shouted. This got the attention of every other officer in the room. They lined up outside the cubicles and saluted as I walked. "Miabi! Get me files on every cold case you have." I ordered. A wiry boy with short blonde hair nodded before retreating to his cubicle. "Usui! Tell the media that we're not currently taking questions on the Rishoka case." I dark-haired man went off to alert the press. "Kazuma! I want a report on all of the suspect's from last night's robbery! Email me their case files as well." I stopped in front of my office. "Remember what our motto is?" I asked them. They all laughed and shouted in unison. "Our motto is to never forget the motto!" I chuckled."Very good. Back to work, everybody." K yoya followed me inside and I shut the door behind us. "What's wrong?"
