Chapter 72: Travelling to the Earth's Core
Namjoon stood there with his head locked onto the side of the room where his eyes met with pictures of Jimin and Jungkook together. All things he wanted with Jimin, Jungkook now had. Namjoon still loved his wife, but he alone had questions that he would recall when he knew Jimin was coming back. Regrets on marrying filled his mind but then that's when he found Jungkook's coat underneath the covers of Jimin's bed that day in the care unit. After that, he knew Jungkook and Jimin were going to be together. It was written in the stars long before and Namjoon only had to read them himself until their stars aligned to meet. That's when Jungkook and Jimin began to fall for each other.
“Are you going home?” Jimin asked and that brought Namjoon back into reality. “Will you come back for me?”
“Of course I will. I just need to drop you off first and then handle some business. So, let me take you as soon as you're done and I'll have to go home and change before I could run errands. I have so much on my plate.” Namjoon changed the conversation as he nervously scratched his head and walked out the room door. Leaving Jimin to feel a little bit set back at how they left things. Meanwhile, Namjoon then took his own phone out and looked up nearby jewelry stores. It was about time he realized that holding back to purchase those engagement rings for the couple, was bad on his part.
“I should be able to let him go…” Namjoon whispered to himself and found the best jewelry store nearby. “Even if it hurts me… I have to let him go. I can't have him and that's final. I have my happy ending, so why can't he?” Namjoon whispered and kept his eyes locked onto the directions to the jewelry store. “Jungkook trusts me and gave me his credit card to buy Jimin his ring so they could be engaged. I don't want to let them down. Their engagement falls on the hands of mine. So, I'll give Jungkook the best ring for Jimin. One that shines as bright as any star.” The man insisted. Finally realizing that as soon as he buys the rings for the proposal, he would let Jimin go from his own heart for the very last time.
Later on, Namjoon drove Jimin to the facility and dropped him off there just so he could reach home and get ready to let Jimin go as soon as he steps foot into the jewelry store. As Jimin walked into the facility, he set his off morning aside and thought about the task at hand. He had to look for evidence and it was no secret that it was all kept inside the elders office. Jimin just had to find a way inside but of course, he wasn't going to do this without getting Jungkook's thoughts on this alone.
As Jimin walked in, he noticed astronomers locking their gazes at how the B248 moved again! But this time, it seemed further than where Taehyung and Jungkook were. Everyone was murmuring and throwing theories around, but not really finding a clue as to how it kept moving on it's own. Surely, gravity would have held it back in place, but this rocket moved at any given time. Thoughts of how it could move on it's own; were out of the question since no one really knew the B248’s controls were within the facility. Hiding within Chief Wu's office.
“It moved again…?” Jimin whispered to himself and walked forward to see the red light of the earth's radar blink further away to the earth now. Not really becoming a threat as of right now. “Something's up… I get a bad feeling about this… Could he-” With thoughts accumulating inside Jimin's mind, he suddenly felt a hand drop over his shoulder and the feeling sent shivers down his own spine.
“What's all the ruckus?” Asked Chief Wu as he turned his head down to face Jimin. “Dr. Park, Good morning. Did you sleep well? Did you talk to Jungkook yet?” Asked the elder into a nerve-racking smile that seemed to bother Jimin in every way. His eyes hidden behind glasses, his smile pulling from the corners of his lips, he had youth at every corner of his face but he was still an elder. An elder around his early fifties to be exact.
“N-Not yet…” Jimin answered and watched the man hold his smile and glance up at the earth's radar before faking a faded smile. “The B248… It… moved?” Asked the elder and dropped his arm from around Jimin before fixing his glasses over his eyes. The benefit of the doubt gave Jimin a feeling that the elder seemed too bland. His reaction was off and this only gave Jimin goosebumps at the thought. “If this keeps up, they'll be stuck there for months!”
“You're right…” Jimin answered and kept his gaze at the elder before he turned around to meet Jimin. “Chief..”
“Dr. Park, Jungkook doesn't look too good. You should go have a look for yourself.” Added Chief Wu before fixing his own tie along his collar and staring at Jimin with discontent. “I'll be stepping out to visit my son for a while. He's not feeling well too.” Every little flaw from Chief Wu came out on Jimin like air bubbles resurfacing in water. He was able to catch it all and realize that maybe the elder wasn't only behind keeping Jimin in space for nearly one earth year. Maybe he too had something to do with the broken Rocket B248-C12. On the other hand, Chief Wu wasn't dull on the mind. He noted Jimin's reactions and kept them pasted in his head. Jimin knew something no one else did.
Jimin blinked his eyes and focused on what the elder added before that. “W-What's wrong with Jungkook?” Questioned Jimin and with that, the head Chief nudged his head to the side and signalled the direction to the monitor room. Note, this only gave Jimin every reason to make a break towards the monitor room. Leaving the elder to watch Jimin's every move from behind him. Jimin ran into the monitor room where some technicians sat to watch over the astronauts. “I'm here…” Jimin claimed as a few astronomers fixed their eyes onto Jimin. “Is there something wrong… With Jungkook?”
“Dr. Park, Jungkook doesn't seem well. Look here, the astronaut seems to be moving weakly. His eyes has bags under them and his effort to eat or sleep seems low. He's been strapped to that bed for earthly hours but for him, it's only been long minutes. He should have been up and about right now. Has he taken any prescriptions before travelling?” Asked an astronomer as she pointed out everything she figured from Jungkook.
“Sleeping pills.” Answered Jimin and that alone silenced the astronomer. “C-Can I be alone with him? I need to talk to him.” Jimin requested and made everyone eventually leave the monitor room. As Jimin awaited everyone to leave, he switched Taehyung's microphone and hearing chip on and began to speak to him. “Taehyung… How's everything?”
Back in the B400, Taehyung was strapped to his own chair while staring at Jungkook for quite some time. “Well, I brushed my teeth and ate a dry orange slice. My time is going well here… I know how urine tastes like now.” Taehyung mentioned and let out a laugh. “Jungkook? Well… He's been laying strapped to that bed and tried to sleep. He doesn't want to eat because he also feels nauseous. Jimin… I don't want to know what vomit tastes like…”
“Too much information, Taehyung. No one is consuming anyone's vomit.” Jimin assured as he dropped onto the seat before the monitor and switched to Jungkook's camera. The astronaut looked pale, silent and his eyes only locked onto the pictures he had of Jimin. “He has bags under his eyes too..”
“Those are Gucci, My little Chim.” Taehyung teased as Jimin scoffed into a laugh. Feeling a little better after that. However, worries only filled his mind as he kept his glance at Jungkook through the cameras. “Alright, switch onto Jungkook's microphone. He has his Microphone and hearing chip in the collar of his suit.”
Jimin switched onto Jungkook's device and looked at him. Before Jimin could say anything, he gave a little kiss and let out a giggle. Knowing those are the main things Jungkook seemed to love. “How's my favorite astronaut doing? Are you feeling alright, Armstrong?” Jimin asked as Jungkook slightly nodded his head in which, Jimin just knew he was lying. “My love… You're a bad liar. I want to hear your voice...”
“I'm doing well, Mochi.” Jungkook replied into a soft and raspy tone to his own voice. “How's my everything?”
“I'm doing well. I miss you a lot. I can see you miss me too. Ah, if you were going to take pictures of me to put it in the B400, you should have taken a better picture of me!”
“Oh Jeon Jimin, those are perfect pictures of you. Every picture you take, my love. Is perfect. I like the pictures of you smiling because it lightens up my universe to the point where I don't need stars, I don't need a sun at the center of the solar system, I just need you to fill that spot and have my all revolve around you. Just that pretty little smile is enough and I wish I could see it right before me.” Jungkook whispered to his lover and made Jimin's eyes gleam in tears. “Why are you silent?” With that, Jungkook heard a sniffle coming from beyond his hearing chip. Making him realize that Jimin was in tears. “My Mochi, did you catch star clusters in your eyes again?~ Or did you catch our universe within those big and beautiful eyes of yours?”
“Honey, don't do this to me… You're making me miss you more!” Jimin sputtered in tears and rubbed his own eyes. “You aren't well… Are you? Why are you talking to me like you won't come back to me?”
“Could there… be a possibility?” Jungkook whispered as Jimin grew silent and thought on it more. Jungkook was growing weak in space and that doubled the possibility that he wouldn't. It even got to the point where Jungkook began to open his eyes to reality. No need to count those stars again to find the constellation. The young stargazer, wasn't going to feel alright and Jimin knew that.
“Jeon Jungkook…. Don't do this to me… I-I know what will cheer you up! Hold on..” Jimin desperately said and quickly pulled out his phone to play calm and classical music for Jungkook. “It's a piano piece… The first song I heard when I walked into your house. Claude Debussy's ‘Clair De Lune’ see? You love that one!” Music played through the hearing chip and this made Jungkook smile to himself.
🎶Clair De Lune 🎶
🎵By: Claude Debussy🎵
“I love you~” Jungkook whispered and made tears fall from Jimin's eyes endlessly. With that Jimin removed his headset and looked away to try to keep his eyes from shedding more tears. Leaving Jungkook to listen to the rest of the piano piece alone. Jimin didn't want to believe this, but many astronomers and technicians noticed it as well. They just didn't want to say anything. With tears flooding Jimin's bright, starry, eyes, Taehyung locked his eyes onto Jungkook within the rocket and held his own tears back as well. Knowing if he was to cry in space, he'd feel pain. “Taehyung… If I die here…” Jungkook mentioned and turned his head to face Taehyung. “Burry me in the moon so I could sleep with the stars…”
“You have my word, Kookie Crunch…” Taehyung replied and watched Jungkook smile before him and resume facing the pictures of Jimin against the B400.
Jimin swiftly dried his tears and stood up. Not even daring to look at Jungkook anymore. “That's it… I'm not waiting any longer. That old man is hiding something and I'm going to get to the bottom of it now!” Jimin hissed and kicked his chair away. He wasn't going to wait for Jungkook to feel even worse and end up catching his last breath in the B400. Jimin wasn't ready to walk alone on a path he should be walking with the young stargazer, Jimin wasn't up for any of that and only now, he couldn't help but to go against Namjoon's words. Jimin walked out of the monitor room and just then, he made his way to Chief Wu's office. Finally Travelling to the Earth's core; where there was no point of return now.
