Chapter 46: Reaching ascension

“Jungkook…” Breathed the older as the young man still held him close. “I don't want anything to change… I want you to stay here… Stay with me..” Jimin whispered. He knew Jungkook was going to be training soon to go up to the stars and try to be the hero, but in Jungkook's mind, Jimin didn't know that side of the moon just yet; the dark side of the moon of course. “You can stay here…”

“Mochi, I have to go back to work eventually. You'll be fine here with Namjoon or Taehyung. Whoever you choose.” Jungkook mentioned and broke the hug while resting his hands over Jimin's shoulders. “I love you so much… I don't want to leave you but very soon, I think you'll be thanking me. You're going to have me for an eternity, so why worry about tomorrow?.”

“Thanking you?” Jimin thought and imagined himself scoffing within his own head. “Why should I thank you if you're going to hurt me by leaving me?” The older debated deep in his own mind before turning his face away from his lover. “If I'm going to have you for an eternity, I don't want to waste any other second without you there…” Answered the older and that's when Jungkook caressed Jimin's hair softly and tried to move his head in closer to his lover, yet Jimin refused it. “No… No, I'm mad at you…”

“How could you get mad at me for a thing as simple as that? I'll be back before you know it! Jimin, my Mochi… don't get upset, I don't want you to hate me.”

“Who said I hated you? Oh Jungkook… I'm so upset. I won't have you tomorrow.” Jimin argued. However, Jimin only despised the fact that Jungkook was going to space. Surely, this was the same feeling Namjoon had one year ago towards Jimin's sudden expedition. “I've gotten so used to you by my side every now and then… Please don't leave me..”

“I won't take long, Jimin. I'll be back and then we can stargaze together like always!” Jungkook tried to make Jimin look on the bright side and smile once again, but Jimin felt like crying over the fact that Jungkook won't be gone only for tomorrow, but a whole three month extending out to a full six-month-trip. Just the thought of it scared Jimin even more. “Mochi… It's my first day back tomorrow, are you really getting upset over that? Ah… I didn't choose to work tomorrow…” At that moment, Jimin depicted lies from Jungkook so suddenly and this only made him a bit more upset than he was before. Jimin pouted with an angry look in his eyes as he then avoided eye contact with Jungkook. He knew everything and counted the seconds until Jungkook was planning to come clean. Yet, he was waiting for nothing since Jungkook kept his mouth glued shut.

On the other hand, Jungkook did this to protect Jimin from the truth. He never had the intentions to lie to the one he loved on purpose, Jungkook did it so Jimin wouldn't have to kill himself as soon as he goes off to space to complete the mission at hand. It was a scary picture to paint in his head and the young man just knew Jimin would be thanking him very soon. The older just didn't know it yet.

“Mochi… Jimin… Don't get upset with me… Please…” Jungkook continued and moved in the direction Jimin was looking at to only see Jimin turn his face into an opposite direction like before. “Ah, give me a break… I'm trying to make you happy… What do you want?” The younger asked and Jimin only took one glance up at his lover and sighed right after. “Tell me, darling… This is killing me…”

“I just want you by my side… I guess I got too used to it and couldn't dare to picture a moment without you right by my side…” Jimin whispered and laid back against the couch to focus on his boyfriend. Jimin didn't want to stay mad at the one he loved and there was no way Jungkook was ever going to tell him the truth until the very end. So, Jimin had to bear with it until Jungkook was to trust his lover with the truth very soon.

“Don't be that way… I'm here now and I'll always be…” Jungkook whispered to his lover before positioning Jimin's face to his. “Smile, I hate it when you frown like that… It makes me so guilty.” The young stargazer added. Deep down, he was really guilty over the lies he gave to protect Jimin… So, Jungkook felt every upsetting frown Jimin threw right at the young man. “So… So guilty…” Repeated the man. Next, Jungkook was finally holding Jimin's face against his and continued to kiss the love of his life, softly tracing his fingers down Jimin's jawline until he guided them over the older's neck and to his gentle chest. “Are you still...upset with me, My sweet?”

“Shut up…” Jimin responded with a soft whisper that made Jungkook smile right after hearing it. Jimin hid his anger towards Jungkook's decision and played it off well that he was clueless, when he really wasn't. “So what if I am…? What are you going to do to me, Mr. Jeon?~”

“Don't try that with me, Park Jimin…” Chuckles then emerged from in between Jungkook's lips once he heard Jimin's alluring response. “I told you I wasn't going to do that to you when you've just recovered. I stand by my word.”

“That's fine, Jungkook…” Jimin whispered in response. It wasn't like Jimin wanted to move on any further than that little bait he uttered right there. His mind still clouded up with the thought of Jungkook jumping in on this expedition so blindly, it gave Jimin a wave of fear just picking on his own shoulders. Both of them would be at risk if they went. However, since Jungkook was more stronger than Jimin in health, the younger wouldn't be turned down and would be given a partner to assist him when he heads up to space on this mission. Jimin just prayed it would be him chosen to help, but the older man understood very well that he wasn't strong at times and was more at risk to have a heart failure once he breaks atmosphere travelling in the B400.

“Ah, what's this? You never want to drop anything so easily…” Teased the young stargazer, raising Jimin's right hand up to lean in and press kisses down the older's arm leading to his neck. Jimin let out a heavy exhale while he felt the tempting sensation fight with his angry attitude within his own head. “I know I said it before… But I didn't say doing this… would hurt you. Let's keep the clothes on, alright?”

“J-Jungkook… Oh you make it so difficult for me to hold back and stay upset…” Sputtered the astronaut before raising his knees up against Jungkook's thighs to lock around his own hips. “Look.. at what you turned me into… I just can't stay away from you now… Can't live without you for more than a second.”

“Darling, maybe take my first day at work as a way you can learn to be on your own. I don't want to do this to you, but you still need to adjust to that. Very soon, you'll be able to go back to work too and I promised to take good care of you and help you with everything. I always promise you things I will fulfill, my star… my beautiful star…”

“Okay…” Replied the older, watching his lover tower over him in silence. “For us…” Jimin assured, observing the smile erupting from Jungkook's face; the corners of his lips pulled upwards and his hand moved forward to Jimin. Softly caressing the side of Jimin's face with a blush surfacing from the younger's cheeks. The older knew why he was still upset, but the sensation of Jungkook always caressing his cheek softly and carefully, made Jimin calm down even if Jungkook's sudden decision was the cause of it all.

“I love you…” The younger reminded Jimin and leaned over Jimin's body to hug him against his own yet, bigger frame. Jimin absolutely loved moments like these and found it hard to hate Jungkook's words right there, but he knew it was going to get him sooner or later.

That night, Jimin laid in his own room; holding a pillow close to his body with tears threatening to fall. It bothered him so much that his lover wasn't going to be by his side for a few days. Jimin knew how many months astronaut training took and Jungkook was going to be gone for six months and then his trip to space would add an additional six months or so. Tomorrow would be the start of Jungkook's day at work and Jimin would miss him dearly. The older laid in bed and tightened his grip around the pillow to open his beautiful eyes in silence.

“No fair…” Jimin whispered to himself and allowed a small tear to run down his chubby cheek. “I don't want him to leave me… How stupid could he be? There are many other astronauts! Please… Please not him…” Begged and begged the older to himself. He spoke for a good minute and finally glanced up to see the yellow planet by the B248. Just looking up at a planet carved from the hands of his lover, reminded Jimin of the same night he was moaning and leaving scratches along Jungkook's back from the lovely sensation. It just gave Jimin flashbacks and he began to question himself in silence. “What if… Jungkook will be gone forever…? With astronaut training and his trip… I won't see hip for a year! What was he thinking?” The older questioned and questioned until, the man let out a sigh right after. “I can't stay mad at him…”

Jimin held his tongue from going further into the situation. He knew Jungkook would soon reach ascension; far off the earth and finally to space where he was to complete his mission. However, Jimin sat there and doubted many things. He didn't like it at all, but he couldn't have a say on anything. Of course, to Jungkook… Jimin had no idea at all. So, going to Jungkook's room right now to bicker, wouldn't make any sense. “He'll realize… How much of a mistake this is… I know it...” Jimin thought and turned over to face the side of the room. For the rest of the night, Jimin hugged the pillow and refused to see Jungkook in his own room. Even if Jimin didn't like sleeping alone, he was too upset to approach Jungkook and cry about how lonely he'll be. Jimin just kept those feelings in and tried to sleep through it. Trying to avoid glancing up at the sculptures of the B248 and their yellow planet, JM-95.

“I just wonder… How long will he keep this lie from me?” Jimin whispered to himself. He found it difficult to sleep with this thought that still floated around in his head; mocking him and telling him Jungkook wasn't going to stay forever. Somehow, that same voice whispered inside of Jimin's head saying, “Father was right.” Jimin acknowledged that whisper and sighed to cup his worried face to himself. “He really was right and I tossed Father away for it… Silly me for thinking Jungkook was going to be by my side forever…. I-I… I guess I was just desperate…” The older then wrapped himself with the blanket and scoffed almost instantly.

By there, Jimin recalled the first time he told his ex, Namjoon about his expedition. The older man went through the same pain and made Jimin only argued about it most of the time. He had no idea this was how it felt to lose someone soon and there was no way of stopping it himself. He was silent and even if it was the most loudest scream, no one really heard his pain to put an end to it. “So… That's how Namjoon felt when I told him I was going to reach ascension. Exactly… one year ago from today…”
