"You bet our magic?" asked Aggie.ย

"A figure of speech," Marnie replied. "I thought it was just โ€“ I'm sorry. I'm sorry."ย

Aggie pointed at Gwen, "This is all your fault."

"What?" Gwen asked, "How is this my fault?"

"If Marnie and Maisie had been properly trained, they wouldn't have ever said anything like that," Aggie told Gwen.

Gwen said, "If Marnie and Maisie had been raised the way I wanted them to be raisedโ€”"

"Then the world was doomed to begin with," Maisie cut in. "Calabar would've succeeded in his plot to take over the world and we wouldn't have been any wiser. He and his annoying gnat of a son would be annoying everyone right about now if they got their way. Who knows how long it would've taken before someone got sick of them and tried to oppose them."ย

Sophie said, "She's got a point. Grandma could've been turned into a statue, and we wouldn't have noticed."

"Look," Marnie cut in. "Let's just cancel the program. I mean, nothing could go wrong if no one comes to live with us."

"Chances are, they already made flyers," Maisie said. "And someone probably signed up for it."

"Aw, and I was so looking forward to sharing my room with a werewolf," Dylan replied sarcastically.

Marnie smacked Dylan upside the head for that.

"No, this is too important," Aggie replied. "We have to show people that they have nothing to be afraid of."

"Besides," Dylan said. "We have nothing to worry about. There aren't any knights."

"Well, of course not," Gwen said. "It's just a story parents in Halloweentown tell their kids to scare them. It's like...the boogeyman."

"Oh," Aggie said. "He's back in Halloweentown. He's been asking about you."

Maisie was confused.

"For the ten-thousandth time, Mother, no," Gwen replied.

"There really is a boogeyman?" asked Sophie.ย

"And apparently he has a thing for Mom," Dylan said.

Maisie smiled, because it must be nice having someone have a crush on you. She wouldn't know. The guys she liked didn't like her back.

"One date," Gwen defended herself.

Sophie asked, "But you're sure there aren't any knights?"

"Yes," Marnie reassured Sophie. "We're absolutely sure there aren't any knights."

"Grasshopper Flakes?" asked Dylan, "Who eats honey-flavored Grasshopper Flakes?"

Maisie almost rolled her eyes at Dylan, but she went into the kitchen, setting her backpack down on a bar stool.

Dylan was going over the cereal selection for their future guests and was kindly giving his opinions.

"Gremlins," Gwen told Dylan. "Apparently it's the only thing they will eat for breakfast."

Maisie picked up a box of Squid Puffs.

"I think his name is Bobby, you guys," Marnie defended as Gwen put the cereal in the cupboard. The box suddenly started vibrating and Gwen closed the cupboard door, "Extra fresh."

"So, who eats Squid Puffs?" asked Maisie.

"And where is your mother?" asked Gwen. She went to the entrance of the kitchen, "Sophie, let's go!"

"I'd rather not be late on our first day of school," Maisie said.

"Soph, let's go!" yelled Gwen, going to Sophie's room.

"Yeah, I'd rather not screw up my perfect attendance record just because you want to bring a little peace and harmony to the universe," Dylan told Marnie.

"At least she's doing something important," Maisie said. "What have you done for the community?"

"And some things are more important than your perfect attendance record," Marnie added. "Like reuniting the world for example."

"Why does reuniting the worlds have to involve me sharing a bathroom with an ogre and a gremlin named Bobby?" asked Dylan.

"Which is why you need this experience because of your attitude towards everything magical," Maisie pointed out.

"And if I can get this spell right, none of us have to share any bathrooms," Marnie added, going back to looking at a spell book.

"That doesn't look like a level one spell," Dylan pointed out.

"You know I'm almost at level two," Marnie said.

"Yeah, and that means you're still at level one," Dylan countered.

"Would you just trust me, okay?" Marnie said, "I know what I'm doing." She made some gestures and the next thing Maisie knew she was getting squished in with her siblings in a very uncomfortable manner.

"Marnie," Dylan said.

"Sorry," Marnie said, redoing the spell, finally putting the house right where it should be.

Maisie had to straighten up, popping her back and then her neck.

Gwen came in, "Okay, I think construction spells are still a little advanced for you."

"Told you," Dylan said.

Gwen proceeded to do the spell flawlessly, conjuring up a door, "See?" The door opened, revealing a hallway with six rooms. Two doors opened up.ย

"Not bad," Marnie told Gwen.

"Beautiful," Gwen told Marnie before walking away.

"You think I'd be used to this kind of by now," Dylan said.

"That's because you'd rather be mortal," Maisie told Dylan.

Marnie said, "Let's go."

There was chiming sound and Sophie said, "Mom, Grandma's on the Witch's Glass."

They went to the living room where Sophie was holding a Witch's Glass.

They gathered around as Marnie took the Witch's Glass and looked at Aggie, "Grandma, where are you? School starts in like twenty minutes and you promised you wouldn't be late."

"And we're on our way," Aggie said. "I'm just getting everybody loaded up." There was a whistle in the background. Aggie spoke to someone, "No, Chester. You can't take your armadillo with you." Aggie spoke to the others, "We'll just meet you at school, dear."

"Wait, Grandma, wait," Marnie tried, but the image went away. Marnie tried not to sound nervous, "See? No problem. She's gonna meet us at school."ย

"What is she thinking?" asked Gwen. "She can't come to school dressed like that."

"Oh, I wouldn't worry," Dylan said. "If she brings the flying school bus, people wouldn't even notice what she's wearing."

"Flying school bus?" asked Gwen. "She wouldn't."

Maisie figured that they should give Aggie some slack. She lived in the mortal world for two years. She picked up some things.

"Oh my gosh, we'd better go," Marnie said, horrified.

"Come on," Gwen said. "Let's go, everybody. Quick, Sophie, come on."

They hurried out the door.
