Chapter 11: A Freddie Christmas

Get ready for the ride.
-Gabby 💚

Roger's POV
It doesn't help when you're me, that you carry secrets from a different century.

You probably wonder why Gabby means so much to me?

No I'm not her father. I'm her uncle, and so is Brian. But the biggest secret: Freddie Mercury is Gabby's FATHER.

The hardest part of this is that long before Gabby was born, Clara was best friends with me and Brian. Because Clara LOVES astrophysics as much as Brian, they became very close when Brian was visiting our old college.

Clara was a transfer student from the U.S as well as her good friend, Erik Roberts.

Thanks to Brian she excelled in university and got her degree as well.

One day in our show in 1981, Montreal, Clara and Freddie met for the first time.

Freddie was immediately enamored with Clara. In fact so much that when he told her he wanted a family, Clara promised him to give him a child to love as his own.

Sadly, because Freddie had AIDS, Clara could not even consider the possibility of being a surrogate. It was six years too late. Not to mention, John was jealous of the love Freddie felt for Clara and not him.

Of course, when our band was on a break, Clara and Erik got married. John grew even MORE furious.

Then when a girl with no family showed up at Freddie's doorstep, and no way back to her time (we didn't know at the time she was a time traveler) Freddie and Jim decided to adopt Gabby.

I still don't know why Gabby's here and why Freddie is still dead. That part I don't know but even with my lack of knowledge, I knew I had to protect her.

If ONLY we could tell her the truth.

Gabby's POV
"It's CHRISTMAS...EVE!!!!" I yelled out. While my parents went to get supplies for Christmas dinner, I decided to decorate a little more.

"Oh darling, you really are so much like me, Christmas is my favorite too" Freddie told me.

MEOW!

Mercury got tangled in the ribbons.

"Oh my god! You should have seen the cats at our house Gabby. It really was a Freddie Christmas" Jim said.

"A Freddie Christmas" I said out loud. It sounded so right to say it.

"How about a Brian Christmas?" A new voice popped up.

"BRIAN!!!" I gasped. And I ran up to give him a hug.

I noticed he had a book with him.

"Gabby, have you got a moment?"

I nodded and sat down with him on the couch.

"There's something I need to show you. And it explains your painful flashbacks" Brian told me.

There in the album was photos of Queen, but one photo stood out.

Next to Freddie in his piano at Garden Lodge was...ME!!!

"You mean...I'm Freddie's?" I asked.

"That day, starlight, you and Freddie were playing piano. He played to you Love of my Life" Brian gently explained.

He choked up and added, "Freddie said if he, if he ever had a daughter, this would be her lullaby"

He turned the page and I GASPED. The kind faced man who called me "Little Bloom" when I went to Garden Lodge...and again at the club in New York.

It was JIM. HUTTON. Him, me and Freddie were together smiling, me in the middle with both men hugging me. We looked like a FAMILY.

"How...this is impossible! Gay men couldn't adopt back in the 80s!"

"Well Gabby, Freddie adopted you in secret. He put himself as your father and to prevent further suspicion, put Jim as your legal guardian should anything happen to him. But to Freddie and Jim, they were both your fathers"

At this point, Bri looked up with tears in his eyes.

"And when your father was close to dying starlight, Freddie made me and Roger SWORE never to let anyone know he had a daughter. He made everyone keep you a secret, the part of the narrative erased from the world but never forgotten to us. He made me and Roger promise to protect his daughter, even when he was gone. So the truth is Gabby, I'm your UNCLE, and Freddie Mercury is your father"

I dropped the photo album. This couldn't be happening. I just burst into tears.

"NO! I'm NOT his daughter!!! You're LYING!!!!" I sobbed.

Freddie and Jim were watching on the other couch across from us, just watching and cuddling each other.

Finally, the truth was OUT!

"All done with your tears love?" Brian...I mean Uncle Brian asked me, gently rubbing my back as I sniffled.

"Maybe...I'm just shocked I didn't figure it out sooner. And that John WASN'T lying"

Bri looked angry at the mention of his ex-bandmate's name, but then decided against it.

"Gabby, there's something I think Freddie and Jim would want you to have" Brian tells me and hands me a Christmas box.

Freddie perks up.

Freddie's POV
I perked up when I saw the Christmas box.

"Jim, he DID keep it safe for us!"

Jim laughed at my excitement.

"Well we DID promise to give her a Freddie Christmas even when the both of us were dead. Let's see how she reacts" Jim said.

"10 pounds she gets my gift first!" I betted on Jim.

Gabby opened the box and gasped.

"I think she found my present first darling!" I smirked at Jim.

"Brian...they're garden seeds."

"HA! Pay up Freddie!!" Jim told me.

"And look! There's a note with the four leaf clovers" Gabby exclaimed.

"Dear Little Bloom,
When you get this, it means both Freddie and I are both dead, from who knows what. But enough of the negative. Alongside our favorite flowers is a plant from my beloved Ireland. Since I'm Irish, here's a four leaf clover so you can grow some of your own luck. With this and the hard work and talent you have, I know you'll be a success in whatever you do, even if I'm not here to see it. I love you flower.
Your Loving Dad,
Jim Hutton"

"Awwwwwwww...Jim I love you too" Gabby looked up, wiping her tears.

"He was a good man starlight. Let's see what your father gave you. At least I HOPE he remembered to give you something" Brian exclaimed.

"Don't worry Bri. He DID!!" Gabby and I replied together. God we really WERE father and daughter.

Gabby took out a red velvet necklace box I kept for her. Inside was a necklace I intended to give her when she turned 21.

"It's a crown!!! There's seems to be something engraved on the back" She murmured to herself.

"Turn it around darling" I told her.

"For my little Queen" Gabby read out loud.

"Oh Freddie, this is the most beautiful gold necklace I've ever owned. Actually it's probably the ONLY gold necklace I own" Gabby laughed.

Tears of joy streamed down her cheeks, and I watched as Bri wipes them away.

"Thank you Brian. I DID get a Freddie Christmas after all"

"Maybe for New Years, I can save Freddie Mercury" Gabby added to herself.

"You already have, little Queen" Jim and I told her.
