Chapter 3: Bree's Gift

Mary softly played her flute so the neighbors wouldn't complain. She finished that last note and put her flute away. She sat down at her desk and looked at her window, wondering how it opened the night before. She turned off the light and jumped into bed.

Knock. Knock.

She jumped up and looked at the window. She froze, noticing the same blue sweater from yesterday. The boy grinned, slid the window open, and crouched in. He took off his blue hood, revealing his white hair. "Hi," the boy bit his lip, then smiled, "my name is Jack Frost."

Mary's eyes were wide and then she shook her head. Her eyes squinted at Jack as she walked over to him and poked his stomach hard.

"Ow." Jack laughed.

Her eyes widned. "You're real?!"

Peter laughed, flying in with Tinkerbell. "She really does believe in you."

Her wide eyes fell on Peter. "Peter Pan?"

Peter smiled, taking off his hat and bowing. "The one and only."

Mary fell onto her bed. "Is this really happening?"

Peter smirked. "You think she'd be happier to see us."

Mary lifted her head. "I am. I just... can't believe it. There's a one time chance type of thing."

Jack smiled, taking a step toward Mary. "How are you feeling?"

Mary smiled. "A lot better actually. A lot has changed since this afternoon."

Jack sat beside Mary. "Was it me?"

Mary shook her head. "It was..." She grinned to herself, "a friend."

"A friend?" Peter tilted his head.

Mary looked at Peter. She recalled that, the year before, Bree once carried around a thimble and called it a kiss. "Yeah..." Mary stared at Peter for a moment. She stood up and walked toward the window. She looked back at Jack and Peter. "She'd be the only one to believe me about this. Can we.... can we go to her?"

Peter crossed his arms. "Depends is she grown up?"

Mary shook her head.

Peter's eyes narrowed, looking at Jack, then Mary. "Is she like you? Will she be able to see Jack?"

Mary grinned. "Most likely." She nodded. "And she would definitely want to see you Peter."

Bree went over her contacts again, trying to find someone who would believe her about what just happened. But there was not one person who would fully believe her about it. She was about to press on Taylor's number, but they hadn't been best friends in a while. And Bree was the one that stopped being friends with her.

She tossed the phone onto the edge of her bed, crossing her arms.

Knock, knock.

Bree gasped with a grin. She ran to her window and pulled the blinds away. She paused, smiling at the four who were waving at her. She opened the window and popped the screen off again.

She grinned, her eyes shifting at all the faces in front of her. "This is so awesome! Oh my god!"

Peter stepped closely to Bree, slightly tilting his face while examining hers. Bree blushed and froze, awaiting Peter's next movement.

He grinned. "Oh! You're the girl from earlier today."

Jack's brows furrowed. "What?"

Peter pointed at Bree and looked at Jack. "When we were flying by here, I saw her. I did my crow cry and looked back." He looked at Bree, smiling. "But I guess I was too far away for her to see my face at that time."

Jack smirked. "I was wondering why you flew by here."

Peter looked around. "Well it was the only window with some sort of blue light on."

"Bree?"

Bree's eyes widened. She whispered, "Hide! Now! That's my mom."

Jack grabbed Mary and flew out the window with Peter, closing the window. Tinkerbell hid under the bed while Bree hid the screen under her blanket with her.

Bree's mom walked in. "Were you up?"

Bree sat up, with her hair in her eyes. "No. I went to sleep a while ago."

"Oh." Bree's mom blinked. "Okay then, good night."

"Good night."

She closed the door behind her.

Peter stuck his head in. He grinned at Bree, whispering. "I noticed a hat up there that looks like mine." He nodded toward the hat on her wall and slid in.

Bree laughed nervously. "Oh. So there is."

Jack and Mary slid in. Jack whispered, "That was close."

Bree nodded.

Mary smiled and hugged Bree. "Surprise."

Bree grinned. "This is the best surprise ever. How did you know?"

Mary stepped back. "I remembered one of the first few times I saw you last year. You had," Mary smiled to herself, "a kiss."

Peter straightened out. "A kiss?"

Bree smiled and slid to her drawer, pulling out a thimble.

Peter eyed it and smiled.

Bree looked at it, then Peter. She smiled, holding it out to him. "For you Peter."

Peter grinned. "Thank you."

Bree pulled it back a bit. "Only if..."

Peter floated closer to her. "If what?"

Bree pursed her lips. "Only if you promise to take me to Neverland."

Peter placed a hand on his chin, looking at Tinkerbell. She shrugged. Peter smiled at Bree. "Are you good at telling stories?"

Bree paused. "Kind of."

Peter grinned and held out his hand. "That's good enough for me. As long as you're okay with fighting nasty, old pirates."

Bree grinned, placing the kiss into Peter's hand. "I am."

Peter held the kiss and smiled. "Let's go then."

Mary blinked. "Tonight?"

Peter shrugged. "Why not?"

Mary's eyes shifted around. "She has school tomorrow." Every worse-case-scenerio rushed to Mary's head.

Peter tilted his head. "What's school?"

Bree frowned. "It's a place where we learn. Although it feels more like jail because I learned a lot more about stars than any of my science teacher could teach me."

Mary smiled. "It's true, we don't learn much, but someone is going to notice you're missing."

Bree's eyes widened. "Oh yeah. My mom drives me to school."

Jack smiled. "Then Peter will come back when he can to take you."

Bree grasped Peter's hand. "Can you..." She tried to gather her thoughts as she locked her eyes with Peter. "Can you... come back tomorrow night?"

Peter looked to Jack. Jack nodded. Peter looked at Tinkerbell, who shrugged. Peter smiled at Bree. "I will."

Mary was restless. It was midnight and she had to wake up in five hours for school, but she just couldn't sleep. She was too happy. She continued looking out her window, imagining what Jack must be doing right now.

Restless and full of energy, she pulled out her journal and began writing a letter to Jack.
