Chapter 12: Sweet Dream Till Morning

Mary sat at her desk staring at Pitch. Pitch stared back, his gaze practically piercing into her. He took a step forward and Mary took an uneasy breath. He smiled, hearing Mary's rapid, fearful thoughts. He looked at several students and Mary's eyes flickered at the students.

The teacher continued showing the students how to finished the equation as Pitch stared at Mary.

Pitch smiled. "You know what's sad about all of this?"

Mary simply stared back, realizing that if she replied everyone would look at her strangely.

Pitch laughed. "You're surrounded by all these people and yet you're more alone than ever. It's even worse that you slightly care about them." He placed a hand on his chest. "I'm a little touched." He chuckled and walked to Mary's desk. He placed his hand on it. "So who shall I give a nightmare to first? Should it be the red-head beside you? Ha, or maybe the lonely blue-eyed boy in the corner?"

Mary closed her eyes tightly.

Don't you be afraid of him should he come visit you,

He's a great big coward, so I'll tell you what to do

Mary smiled and whispered. "Hush, hush, hush, here comes the boogeyman."

Pitch's eyes narrowed at Mary. Mary looked at Pitch, smiling. She looked back at the teacher without a word.

Pitch stepped closer to Mary. "What did you just say?"

Mary stared at the board and copied down notes.

Pitch rolled his eyes. "Ignoring me, are you?" He touched the head of girl across from Mary. She shuddered a bit, but Mary continued looking at the board. Pitch narrowed his eyes and stood in Mary's view. "That girl is now mentally facing her worst fear, and you ignore it?"

Mary laid her head down and closed her eyes.

Pitch snarled and vanished into Mary's shadow as she fell asleep, smiling.

Bree jumped off her bed and rushed to her window.

Peter instantly embraced her. "It was really hard trying to find treasure today. You kept appearing in my thoughts."

Bree smiled and embraced Peter tightly. "Is it because I'm going to Neverland with you?"

Peter grinned. "Was today really your last day at school?"

Bree nodded. "You could spend the night and we'll leave in the morning."

Peter embraced Bree and flew to her bed. "That would be wonderful."

Bree smiled, locking her gaze with Peter.

Peter smiled back at Bree and moved her bangs out off of her eye. "You have very pretty eyes. They remind me of the gems I find sometimes."

Bree blushed and looked down. "Really?"

"Uh-huh. I like those gems a lot like your eyes." Peter's hand landed on the side of Bree's face. He paused for a moment, feeling his heart beat like the time he held Bree and felt her heart. His breath became thinner but heavier as his face slowly leaned closer to Bree's. He closed his eyes and felt his lips on Bree's. He felt his heart slow and become louder. He moved, eyes still closed. "I... really liked that."

Bree grinned. "Me too."

Peter gently kissed Bree again, more slowly and tenderly. "I want more of it. It makes me feel warm," he whispered, cupping Bree's head and kissing her.

Bree wrapped her arms around Peter's neck and continued kissing him. As they kissed, Peter asked for more and more. Peter held on tightly to Bree, so they fell asleep in each other's arms. As Peter slept, he felt the same warm sensation and smiled in his sleep. This was the first time he had done so in a long time, and he would never forget it.
