CHAPTER ONE

Chapter One
Summer Has Arrived

SIX MONTHS LATER . . .

HEADING out tonight was another night of patrol since Courtney made us come every night when it was eight till midnight to patrol Blue Valley. To make sure that there was no threat of the Injustice Society. But like every night everyone gets crabby when they are tired, after searching for hours and finding...nothing. Empty handed after six months of searching for Cindy Burman, the only Injustice Member that we haven't seen other than Grundy and Gambler.

And out of all of them, I would want to fight Cindy Burman, after everything that she has caused to the people I have cared about in the past. I really just want to bring Justice to everything she has done and put her in jail. To finally end the whole terror she's caused. Ever since spreading those nudes that Yolanda sent Henry.

Henry. Man there was a time I grew to hate him with a growing passion, after what he did to Yolanda. But in recent months it's been weird not seeing the gingered hair boy in town. The one who deep down before he died, showed his more caring side. A side in which he never showed. And then he died admitting he was sorry to Yolanda.

But that didn't mean I never had my fair share of hurt and trauma that I went through. Going from the tunnels of the Injustice Society remembered everything that had happened. All the way to the memories of everyone who we lost. Including Joey & Denise Zarick all the way to Henry King. The blame game, in blaming myself took me a long time to recover since it still haunts my dreams sometimes.

One time I did go to a therapist in Central City during Spring Break to talk it out. But it's not like I can start a conversation going. "I'm a superhero named the Flash, and I suffer from a side effect of PTSD from not being able to be fast enough to save people." That wouldn't end well, I would either end up in a psych ward, or just be laughed at by the Therapist.

So I joined Yolanda into going to church everyday for Six months before meeting up with Courtney. I tended to just sit there in silence trying to focus on the good thoughts for the past six months. To try to calm down my nerves. But out of the two of us, my best friend was suffering from killing Brainwave. From killing him. Which wasn't easy for her to hide from the others but Courtney and I.

It reminded me of when she would stay silent somedays processing everything with Henry Jr. and I would just sit there in silence to help her. To just tell her without saying it to her, that I was there for her.

At home, my mother was supportive of me and understood what I went through in the past months and allowed Yolanda to stay if she needed to get away from her family. She would try to help Yolanda and I the most she could, but at the same time distract us enough to forget about what happened for a few minutes. But the house felt safe, Wally took care of Girlfriend, and continued to do dangerous experiments when my mother would sometimes not come home for a day or two while doubling shifts.

During the months, my mother had gotten me a kitten that was an orange, and white tabby cat with some yellow hairs on it too. I named it Ginger West, after thinking about the West's and their ginger hair and the kitten's personality. She even liked Yolanda more than me.

In general, six months was not a long time to move on, but it gave me time personally to heal and reflect. And grow my relationship with Courtney. Who is my girlfriend now for the past six months, as she could sometimes be paranoid about the Injustice Society coming back. But when we weren't on Patrol we spent as much time as we could together. But the staff still tends to try to push me into her like it did when we had our first kiss all those months ago.

Still waiting around the corner, Rick, Beth, Yolanda, Wally, and I were waiting for Courtney's signal that it was all clear.

So instead of doing nothing I messed with my hair under my helmet as I was watching the other getting bored of waiting for Courtney to finish. As a strange noise came out of the corner of the alleyway. I looked over to see nothing from the corner due to my standing.

"She said all clear guys." Beth yelled back towards us as we all walked around the corner to see the lit alleyway with nothing around us. As Courtney was still standing there with the staff in her right hand as I could see a Raccoon was in the trash can.

"Did you check inside the trash can?" Rick asked her with sarcasm laced in his voice as I looked over at him, knowing that this happened every night for the last two months. After he grew tired of not finding anything and having to do patrol every night for hours on end.

"Sarcasm. Duly noted." Courtney responded with a small chuckle lining her voice. "So I've got 27 minutes left until curfew. How bout' we do one more loop around the sub shack?" She suggested making everyone including myself groan inside our heads knowing that we would still not find anything for tonight at least.

"Beth, any sign of trouble?" Courtney asked to make Beth clear her throat and touch the goggles that she has been trying to fix and make Chuck work again for the past Six and a half months. But still no success in getting Chuck back...yet.

"Goggles. Checking in. Again. Ha. Anything out there?" Beth started before she continued to walk with us looking around the alleyway and into some of the stores in the area from her vision. "These things are not so fun without Chuck. Yep, nothing, no trouble alerts, no trace of Gambler, Cindy or Soloman Grundy."

Walking a bit farther we all stopped when Rick yelled towards all of us.

"Hey, guys! I beat Grundy, okay the Gambler's a wimp, and Cindy Burman probably got crushed with Brainwave when the dish caved in." Rick said as I glanced over at Yolanda knowing it wasn't easy hearing his villain name as well as his real name. As everyone else believed Brainwave died with the dish, as Yolanda just looked away from Rick, tensing up.

"I doubt it." Courtney started, "The others could..."

"What others Court? Icicle was shattered into a thousand pieces, Dragon King is dead, Tigress and Sportsmaster they're locked up. The ISA are done. All of them." Rick added on interrupting Courtney.

"I think we should call it a night, Court." Yolanda suggested as everyone else would agree with her. Even myself as I was starting to get tired and still had to review for an hour on my History exam tomorrow.

"Me too." Beth added.

"Wally, Yolanda and I have a trip for two weeks to prepare for." I mentioned as Courtney looked at me sadly thinking that I would at least stand with her. But this trip is something I have to still pack for, even if I can move fast. Being tired and fast do not mix well.

"Yeah. Come on." Yolanda mentioned as I stayed back watching as Wally, and the others went with Yolanda.

"We're the Justice Society of America. We can't quit." Courtney yelled, not believing the others were already leaving.

"We aren't quitting. We're still the JSA and if something happens we'll suit up and we'll be there. But right now we're protecting a town that doesn't really need it." Yolanda reassured Courtney as Wally and I nodded at her in agreement.

"Okay maybe we can cut patrol back from seven nights a week to six." Courtney suggested as everyone groaned and I sighed knowing that wasn't a deal breaker and what we meant. As everyone continued walking away. "Oh you're serious?" Courtney asked as everyone looked back at her and I looked at her. I started walking forward as she looked at me.

"Good night." Yolanda said to Courtney and everyone as Wally followed her.

"Later." Rick yelled right behind the two as Beth was behind him.

"I'm gonna do that last loop, so if anyone changes their mind, meet me at the Sub Shack in ten." Courtney yelled at the others as they walked away out of sight. "Ok no problem. I got it. See you tomorrow."

I stopped for a moment turning back to Courtney as the Staff glowed to brighten Courtney's mood. I watched as my girlfriend finally looked at me.

"You need to go home and rest, Courtney. We have one more day of school until Summer, you got to live your life a little." I started as she looked at me frowning a bit. "Don't give me that puppy dog frown, it never worked and never will."

"McKenna?" She mentioned as I shook my head slightly.

"Court you gotta take care of yourself. I love you but you're working yourself too hard babe. I will see you tomorrow. Goodnight." I muttered smiling at her until I went to follow the path in which Yolanda and Wally went knowing that Courtney was going to someday work herself till she regrets it. And I just hate seeing her like that.

The following morning, when waking up I smiled seeing Ginger on my stomach as I felt bad for having to wake her up since I had to shower this morning. Once I finally got Ginger awake she glared at me and I just had this apologetic look on me feeling so bad for waking her up.

"I gotta go Ging." I muttered at her as my body was still tired from last night, but at least sleep helped a bit. As I still had a road trip for two weeks to go on starting tomorrow.

Once Ginger got up after huffing at me, I moved my feet to the floor feeling the coldness of the hardwood. I could see the helmet reflecting on my vanity mirror as it looked like it was still new even when my father started wearing it. I wondered why he chose the helmet instead of a mask.

After my shower I finally got dressed into a pair of jeans, nice supporting shoes, and a white tank top with one of Courtney's red hoodie that I stole without her knowing it yet. Looking at my reflection I quickly brushed my hair straight out as it kept it's waviness before I packed the rest of my bag full of supplies.

Before leaving my room I glanced at the photo of my parents and I from when I was younger. Before my father's death. A photo that I really don't remember being taken due to how young I was at that time. Keeping a stern face I walked down the stairs of my room hearing the footsteps of Ging following me.

Once getting downstairs I grab myself an orange, unpeeling it fastly as I kinda got some on Wally's hair without him knowing it...until Yolanda comes out looking at the peel in his hair. I looked at her telling her not to tell him. Which ended up going badly as my mom entered the room seeing the peel in his hair and me with an orange as she glanced at me.

"McKenna." She stated as I still kept a straight face, as part of me wanted to give up.

"Yes mother." I asked as the peel fell into Wally's cereal as he then glanced at me.

"I'm so getting you back Ken." Wally muttered as I knew this was going to end bad for me and Yolanda most likely as she had a purple hoodie on preparing herself to go to church.

Later on the two girls got to the church as Yolanda walked in and I watched her going straight to sit down instead of going into the confession box. I don't think I would ever confess everything I'm going to, including knowing when someone was murdered and not reporting it to the police before the priest.

Staring at the Jesus statue I looked up praying that something wouldn't happen to this town like it did six months ago. Not even noticing at first Yolanda coming out until I saw her running out as I got up following her wondering what in the hell happened to her.

"Yolanda?" I called out to her running after her, "Yolanda are you ok?" I asked her as she looked at me with fear on her face.

"You heard it again, didn't you?" I asked her as she nodded with some tears in her eyes as I hugged her before she could do much more. "I can't say you'll be fine without reading your mind. But I am here for you Yolanda. I'm here for you." I soothed her as she continued to cry until Courtney continued to approach us, seeing Yolanda with me as she wiped the tears off her eyes.

Once we continued walking Courtney started talking to us about this so called "stupid cabin trip" as I smiled knowing she didn't want to go. "Can you believe that? Two weeks stuck in a cabin." She complained as I looked to see Yolanda who was stuck in her thoughts.

But instead of worrying about missing me she is going to miss being Stargirl. "I'll have my phone and if there is a kind and loving God, reception." She started up again. "Maybe the staff could come get me as soon as something happened." She continued as I stopped listening.

Courtney stopped when Yolanda's voice wasn't at her usual octave. "Hey, you okay?" She asked her as Yolanda gave her frowned face as I looked at her with concern.

"I don't know, Court. Maybe it's a good thing that you're taking a break. Maybe we all should for a while." Yolanda told her as we continued walking down the street. "You know I still hear Brainwave. The sound he made when I heard him die. It's like--it's all I can think about." Yolanda continued.

"It's like it's stuck in my head." Her hands moved as she muttered something out loud to us both. "I don't know if I deserve to be a Wildcat. Like, Ted Grant would never do what I did." Yolanda continued as I grabbed her arm and Courtney went in front of her.

"You do deserve to be Wildcat." Courtney told her, "You are Wildcat, Yolanda. Look, the JSA doesn't work, this JSA doesn't work without one of my best friends." Courtney continued making me smile at her seeing her look at me smiling back.

"Yolanda she's right you're Wildcat. I have known you for most of my life. If anyone deserves to be Wildcat , you are more than you think." I told her as we continued walking.

"Brainwave could have killed us." Courtney continued as I knew she was right. I was close once to being killed by Brainwave. "He would have." Courtney continued as I still kept a grip on Yolanda's arm.

"Okay, so let me ask you both something." Yolanda told us as we ran across the street to the other sidewalk. "Does that make what I did okay?" She asked us looking at the both of us.

"I-" Courtney muttered.

"Yes or no, Court?" She asked as I opened my mouth until I shut it knowing Courtney would speak before me.

"I wasn't there, Yolanda. I don't know what else you could have done." She spoke up as I looked at Yolanda.

I spoke up, "Yes...he lied to you. He made you see something that you were hurt by. He hurt multiple people, you stopped him from doing anything worse. It doesn't make you bad." I told her as she looked at me as I knew deep down Yolanda wasn't a bad person, she had morals and she broke them to stop someone who needed to be stopped.

As Yolanda looked across the street she tensed as I looked over and froze. Oh No! Cameron Mahkent is back.

"What do I say to him?" Courtney asked as I looked at her knowing she should say nothing.

"You say nothing, Court." Yolanda spoke up for the both of us.

"I-I want to see if he's okay." Courtney continued as Courtney is one to always care about people and make sure they're alright.

Yolanda continued on telling Courtney more about what would happen if he found out. If we told Cameron. He could turn against us, we don't know his potential and that makes it dangerous.

"Henry might still be alive if he didn't find out about his father." Yolanda continued on, as I looked at her knowing the topic wasn't her favorite watching a person she cared about at one point die in front of her. As I remembered Henry too in so many ways.

The three of us continued to walk on our ways to school.

Sitting down hours later I finally finished my History exam as I knew I was going to pass it with a decent grade. Once I got up I gave it to the teacher until the bell dismissed us, as the woman on the telecom spoke up.

"All right prairie dogs, off you go to your last lunch break of the semester. As a reminder please have your lockers cleaned out by 3:00, and beside to have a safe and healthy summer vacation." The woman on the telecom said as the class packed their things as I was about to leave, leaving Rick in the room and meeting him in the Hallway.

Instead of leaving I heard from the doorway the history teacher ripping Rick about cheating. Cheating because of who he used to be. Trying to make him retake the test to prove himself from not lying. As he talked about saving her and everyone in this town and nobody respects him. And that is something I don't understand.

I sighed seeing him pass me and run into a brown haired girl as she looked at him as her and her friend I figure. The new girls from this semester looked at him. Her eyes looked into his eyes and she looked at him. The two of them just stared at each other as her books were on the ground. The friend of hers glared at him.

"I'm sorry." She muttered going to the ground as her friend looked at me as I watched what Rick did next.

"I ran into you." He spoke up as she smiled.

"You're Rick Tyler. Right?" She asked him as he looked at her wondering how she knew his name. "Everyone here knows about you. So I have heard about you before if that doesn't scare you more now that I know what I'm fully saying." She started, "I'm Hope...Nelson...Hope Nelson." She spoke up as she got back up with him as he handed her his books.

"Oh and this is my friend Avnera Prince." She spoke up as I looked at the two...Nelson. Such a familiar last name. The Prince girl looked at me as she noticed I was staring at the two. She was wanting to tell something to her friend who was too distracted into talking with Rick.

I walked back away knowing it was not my place to stand there or maybe just maybe that Prince girl from what I could hear would attack me. But her last name even sounded familiar. But from where? She had a name that I think I know...I just need to know.

Meeting up with Courtney and Yolanda, I grabbed lunch from the lunch line meeting up with Beth who was already sitting down. Courtney was continuing to speak about more ISA member cases in the JSA files. I sighed knowing she wouldn't let this down.

Beth wasn't speaking that much. They asked where Rick was as I answered that when Beth noticed us.

"Rick is most likely talking to this girl named Hope Nelson." I spoke up as speaking the name made it more familiar like Nelson. Nelson...wait, does that mean Kent Nelson. I have heard that name before from my mother a long time ago. So is she the daughter of Kent Nelson? The famous Dr.Fate, the one who retired after the team died, hasn't been seen since.

"What?" Yolanda asked as Beth looked at me as I knew something was wrong with her.

"Just those last-day-of-school blues, you know?" Beth asked us rhetorically as something was definitely up with her. As she usually talks longer and doesn't always ask us rhetorical questions.

Artemis Crock was approaching as she was talking more about her parents, as I grabbed Courtney's arm as she looked back. As I knew this wasn't going to be good. This wasn't going to end well. As Artemis knew someone set them up...oh no.

The hockey stick coming up near Courtney made her snap, and I saw this going very wrong as she flipped over Artemis Crock. Which was a big mistake even for Courtney. As even Yolanda, Beth and I stood up looking at her. Even when Artemis called her 'Pinhead'.

Everything ended when she was grabbed on the arm by the new principal, as I knew she was going back to the principal's office. Again...second time in two semesters. For starting a fight.

"See you later, Court. Text me." I yelled at her knowing that she was going to be in trouble with her mother, and Pat would be disappointed in her.

I met up with Courtney down the street seeing her disappointed since she told me she had Summer school. And wasn't going on vacation. She complained as I looked at her.

"Court...everyone's right you need to take a break. Heck I can even help you with Summer school if you truly need it." I spoke up looking at her. "You have been doing so much as Stargirl...your forgetting to be Courtney...you're forgetting about me." I spoke up as she looked at me.

"McKenna." She spoke up as I looked back at her.

"I care for you, but you're tearing yourself apart. You have barely spent time with me these last two months." I continued as tears almost wanted to come out of my eyes.

"I'm sorry, I promise in between summer school and not being Stargirl for two weeks I will make more time with you." She spoke up as I looked at her.

"You better. Promise me?" I asked her pointing out my pinky towards her as she looked at me.

"I promise." She said, linking her pinky to mine as I smiled.

"Now is that one of my hoodies?" She asked as I knew my cheeks were flushed, and I giggled out of pure embarrassment that she now noticed.

"Maybe." I told her, as she smiled.

"It looks nice on you." She said as I growed more flushed than before...somehow.

Quickly she put a quick kiss on my lips as I closed my eyes. AHAHAHAHAH. When breaking the kiss I smiled at her.

"You're such a charmer, Court." I spoke up as she smiled back at me as I noticed she finally joined in at the blushing party.

"I will see you later, I must get back before Yolanda and Wally...I mean Wally does something and Yolanda gets stuck into it." I spoke up before kissing her one more time. "I'll see you soon. Text me." I continued seeing her nod before we walked in opposite directions.

Walking back home..I felt like I was being followed by someone as I looked back once and couldn't see anything. As Yolanda and Wally were already home.

Not long after did I see a quick flash as something was thrown to almost hit me, as I was fast enough to move it before getting on the other side of the sidewalk. Not long after I had a woman run to me as I kicked her fastly throwing her back.

After that I quickly was pushed back by a force along with this other girl. The Prince girl from earlier as she looked at me. "Do you have a problem with me?" I asked her as she looked at me.

"You're getting into something that you don't want to get into." She pointed out as she must have been in something that she's warning me about.

"Enough Anvera." The Hope girl yelled towards her friend. "Who are you?" She asked me as I looked at her.

"Who are you?" I asked her back as she looked at me.

"You were really fast, like a speedster..." She mentioned that I could see her face change as I went white as a ghost. Oh no this will end badly. "Are you the daughter of the Flash?" She asked me, looking at me, "Jay Garrick I mean." She told me as I looked at her.

"Yeah. How do you know that?" I asked her as the Avnera girl looked at me apologetically.

"I'm sorry. I'm Hope Nelson. And I think I can help you." She mentioned as I looked at her.

3RD POV...

AT the Whitmore-Dugan house, sounds of footsteps woke the staff and Courtney up as the two heard noise from downstairs. And talking between two people, through whispers, as Courtney was going to text McKenna for help but knew she was probably asleep preparing for her trip in the next couple days.

Creeping downstairs she saw two figures, one who had a helmet in her hands, while the other was carrying the Green Lantern and stealing it in Courtney's opinion. The two women were startled as Courtney tried blasting the two as the one girl put the helmet on and a bright light protected her as she was now in a cape. While the other girl blasted her back with a flash of green light of power.

The other girl used magic to blast Courtney back attempting to throw the staff away from her. But failed as she was blasted back as they were now in the kitchen. As damage was being made as they all were being flung around.

The girl in the cloak and helmet kicked Courtney back, as the girl with the Lantern hit Courtney with one final blast as she was knocked down.

"Who are you two?" She asked them.

"I'm Green Lantern's daughter." The girl mentioned, as she pointed to the other girl, "And this is Dr.Fate's daughter." She continued as Courtney looked at them both,

Before Pat, Barbara and Mike came downstairs. As they all looked at Courtney and the damage, as Courtney asked them.

"What's going on?" Snapped them all out of it, as Hope Nelson took off the Fate helmet as Pat saw her come back to her normal form.

"I think there was a big misunderstanding." Courtney mentioned.

"Yeah. You seem to be having a lot of them today." Pat told her as it was true. Looking at the girl with the lantern and the helmet.

Meanwhile the JSA didn't know what was happening under the tunnels as Cindy Burman walked down the dark hallways of Blue Valley High. Her heels were clicking on the floor, as she went to her old locker at the high school.

Opening it, she grabbed a folder, an ISA folder to be exact. As she walked into the tunnels like she did months ago. Her new appearance felt how she felt. Ready to kick the ass of the JSA, as she went back to the dungeon where her fathers old lab was.

Setting down the file she looked through it, pulling out the pictures of Henry Jr. as she tore it and threw it to the side. And then she pulled out Issac Bowin and Artemis Crock setting it down on the table beside each other.

Next she pulled out Cameron Mahkent, the sweet artistic boy who didn't know the truth of his father's death. Next she pulled out Willa Minerva, a girl who went to the opposite school a town away. Moved here around the same time as the Kent's and Avnera Prince. The daughter of one of the most known villains...the cheetah. A retired villain a long time ago.

After her, she pulled out a file of a woman who was so much darker than she knew. The one of the all a shadow. She could be unknown in a town, and yet blend in and fit in. And next to her was a photo laid out of someone who use to be familiar until her father sent her away. The team she wanted to recruit was so much bigger than what she had expected. One the JSA wasn't going to expect.

The last twist was when she placed one more photo. One that would hurt the JSA the most....

A/N: Hey guys sorry that I haven't been able to update any of my books quicker. My Senior Year of High school has arrived and I haven't been able to write that much after school. I am currently only writing during off-hours and weekends which doesn't give me much time. I do write reports on Stargirl S2 on the Episode date and plan out my chapters when I watch Stargirl now.

But welcome to the first Chapter of Our Society. I wanted to make this book relate to more themes of self care, and figuring out who these characters are meant to be. I can't wait to introduce more of my characters soon. I hope you guys enjoyed the Prologue in which Avnera Prince, and Hope Nelson both were introduced prior to the end of S1 hinted at the end of book 1. More of them are to come.

A quick warning for this book, is it will be more dark and gruesome. And when I mean dark we will see a different side of writing for a bit of the darker parts of Stargirl that are to come as the episodes keep coming out for Season 2 and Season 3. I can't wait to show you some of my mature and dark themes. And some surprises I'm going to bring. I will state this:

You will hate me by the end of this book. And the end of Fortune.

I really am going to push my boundaries and take a step backwards into Darkness plunging my characters into this idea. Including when it comes to fighting Eclipso or Cindy.

But other than that we will see Relationships form between Hope Nelson, Avnera Prince and the others throughout the book. And we will see Lucinda, Aleska, and Willa with the Injustice Society soon enough. Including when it comes to Lucinda meeting the gang of heroes.

Anyways I wanted to add on to this long note, that you should check out the playlist because I am listening to it while writing this book. And let's say some of the songs do inspire chapters later on.

In other terms, How did you enjoy the premiere of Season 2 of Stargirl?

And one spoiler I said to everyone else for the book, we will see Jay Garrick and McKenna Garrick reunite. But there might be problems with that as McKenna is growing with her powers....hmmm whatever that means to you. Maybe it's a spoiler to what will happen. Who knows?

But again thank you and I will try to get back to everyone who comments since I enjoy responding. I will be back very soon publishing another chapter.

Word Count: 5357

Please remember to vote, comment, share, and most of all enjoy!
