I sat in the trees and watched the Akatsuki training outside their base. It had been almost a year since I had disappeared from their lives without a trace. Since then I had climbed the ranks of criminal ninjas, and killed more people in that one year than I had my entire life before that. I had tried to cut off everything emotionally, yet I couldn't. Hidan had come with me, and it was easier for him. But even though I knew I had to leave, I didn't want to.

I had left because I was sick. Not sick in the body, but sick in the mind. I was getting reckless, apathetic, and emotionally dead, not caring if I hurt innocent people. Hidan suggested we leave and I realized he was right. And so we packed our backs and left in the middle of the night without so much as a note.

It's been exactly a year since we left and I didn't realize that we were travelling in this direction, but it happened anyways. And now here we were, watching the closest friends we'd ever had train and laugh without us.

"Hidan... Do you think we should go back?" I asked, looking up at him. He set his mouth in a straight line, clearly unsure of what to do.

"I honestly don't fucking know. Let's camp the night and decide in the morning."

That night, while Hidan was fast asleep, and snoring like a fucking Tyrannosaurus rex, I snuck down and walked to the training grounds, sitting down on the rock that Sam, Manga, and I used to sit in all the time. Leaning my head against the cool concealed concrete of the base, I closed my eyes and began to sing.
