Saying Goodbyes

Thank you Caitlan for editing my chapters :)

Emilia's POV

This week passed exceptionally faster than I had imagined it to be. These days all I do is laze around in my bed for most of the day and in the evenings, the only time that I have been outside was to the park with Nath. My parents and sister had taken me and Nath moving to Chicago for the job considerably bad, my dad was angry by the decision I had made and being the stubborn old man; he did not talk to me for five days.

My mom was heartbroken as she was very fond of Nath and could not bear the pain of being away from her. She kept on repeating, how her grandchildren being away from home, was going to make the house so quiet. My sister was miserable as this was the first time we were going to be away from each other. She used to come with me, whenever I went to visit Sam.

I was relieved when I found out that Jake was away for a business trip and was going to meet me directly at the wedding. He would make me feel even more grief of leaving this place; he has always been there for me, and he was there especially when I felt isolated and shattered after I found out about the pregnancy. His family was the second people I told about the pregnancy, the first being my family. I had planned to tell him about leaving to Chicago at Alec's wedding.

Nath was reluctant about leaving Greenville as she loves her friends here and has created a strong bond with my mom. She cried when I told her about leaving, and I had to console her saying that she would be staying with her brother Sam.

Tomorrow is Alec's wedding; Elisa and I plan to reach Seattle one day before the wedding so that we could go shopping. Nath and I are about to make our way to the airport, so we say our final goodbyes before leaving.

"Take care of yourself and Nath, Darling. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call us." Mom said with a smile, but I could see the tears in her eyes.

Sophie was holding Nath talking to her as she hugged her.

"Nath baby, I will miss you so much, don't forget about our deal," She said cheerfully.

"I will miss you too and I won't," She said beaming.

"Am I missing something people?" I asked amusingly.

"It's a secret, Mommy," She said with a finger on her lips.

I started tickling her. "Mommy, please... "She began giggling.

I stopped and raised my eyebrow questioningly eager to know the answer.

"Mommy, Sophie aunt, said that every kiss I give to her over the phone, she would hand me a bar of chocolate," Nath said with a goofy crooked smile on her face.

Everyone started laughing at hearing this. I always knew Sophie cared for Nath very deeply, and after we move away, I could tell how much she was going to miss her.

"Sophie baby, Nath won't stop giving kisses to you over the phone so get ready to buy tons of chocolate with your pocket money," I say chuckling.

Sophie looked embarrassingly at everyone and started scratching her head. I smiled at my dad, and I could sense the uneasiness in his posture.

As I started to book a cab to the airport, my dad suggested that he would come to drop us off as he was feeling sorry for his behavior this last week.

The ride to the airport was silent other than the sound of Nath nibbling her wafers. We arrived at the airport and dad helped in carrying our luggage. Nath was very excited to meet Sam and the others at the wedding.

I abruptly stopped when I noticed that dad was missing and turned back to see him standing still. I asked Nath to sit on the chair and went to see if he was okay.

"Hey Dad, are you ok? Is something bothering you? You've been very silent." I ask with a concerned tone.

"I just remembered one of your childhood memories. You were so scared about going out to your first day of school. You had made a fuss about going to school, and I took a leave that so that I could be with you." He said with a sad smile. There was an expression on his face that I had never seen before. I could not understand why he was telling me all of this.

"I came to the school with you and left you in your class. I promised you that day I won't let anyone harm you and always be there for you. I couldn't keep my promise as I didn't beat the shit out of the person who had taken advantage of you on that drunken night. I don't want you to get hurt, and I don't want you to leave." He had tears in his eyes and seeing this I couldn't control my emotions as I let the tears roll down my face.

I hugged him and as I tried to console him. "Dad, It was half my fault too, I had been so careless that night, just please don't blame yourself. I love you, Dad, and I know you are always there for me, no matter what. I have to find a new job and live on my own, not live in that house forever and make a career.

"I am so proud of you, Darling," He said with a broad smile.

We walked back over to Nathalie who was sitting on the bench; my dad bent down and kissed her forehead. We said our final goodbyes and I scooped Nath in my arm and started walking towards our flight. As soon as we were inside, Nath slept as she was very tired and I was looking  out of the window.
