Chapter 14
Taehyung took deep breaths as he looked at his reflection in the mirror. There were droplets of water running down his cheeks.
He took another deep breath, and then pressed his hands over his barely noticeable baby bump. He was three months along, nearing four, and the person who deserved to know it most wasn't even aware of this tiny life's presence.
Taehyung had wanted this to be a surprise for Jungkook. When he turned back from his mission, Jungkook would spent his day with Yeonjun, and then pay attention to Taehyung when their son went to sleep. Taehyung would hold his hands, and smile at him, and tell him that he had something important to tell him.
Jungkook would get impatient as always, and then would call Taehyung Taetae, and tell him to say whatever he wanted. Taehyung would get angry at Jungkook for ruining the mood, but then he would tell him that they were having another baby.
Jungkook would be speechless for a moment, and then would smile the smile that was only reserved for his family, and would touch Taehyung's belly, and then take him in his arms. He would ask the sex of the baby, and when he learned they were having another boy, Jungkook would arrogantly tell Taehyung that Jeons always had sons.
They would argue a bit, Taehyung would tell Jungkook that their second baby would look like Taehyung for sure. Jungkook would smirk and say that, as long as they had Jungkook's gens, they would look like him, not like some Taetae. They would argue more, and then make love slowly, because that was how Jungkook liked touching Taehyung after they hadn't seen each other for a while. He would hold him gently, and love him tenderly, just the way Taehyung loved…
Taehyung took a shaky breath, and rubbed his cloudy eyes. He had to be strong, he had his son with him, and he had to protect him.
Taking another deep breath, Taehyung emerged from the bathroom, and went to his son's side, who was sitting beside the window, and watching outside silently.
Taehyung sat down beside him, and wrapped his arms around him, and placed his chin over his little shoulder.
"What are you doing, baby?"
Yeonjun only shrugged, and Taehyung kissed his cheek tenderly.
It had been three days since they had come to Seoul, and Taehyung hadn't let Yeonjun out of Jungwoo's home. He didn't want his son leaving his side, and he was afraid that he would lose him somehow. But, it wasn't good for Yeonjun, so Taehyung suggested with a smile,
"Why don't we go outside and try to find a cat for your encyclopedia?"
Yeonjun's face lit up immediately. "Really?"
Taehyung smiled. "Yes, really! Go get ready."
Nodding with a huge smile, Yeonjun run into their room, and grabbed his backpack and put his encyclopedia in it.
"I'm ready!" He came back running.
Smiling, Taehyung took Yeonjun's hand in his, and then they got out, locking the door with the spare key that was given to them by Jungwoo.
They started walking down the streets, and Taehyung guided Yeonjun to the places where he thought there would be cats. For the most of the day, Yeonjun run after cats, and Taehyung followed after him, though at a slower pace. The power bonds he carried had started effecting Taehyung.
When Yeonjun was satisfied with the paw prints he got, they headed back to Jungwoo's home, but they entered a convenience store first. They were already using Jungwoo's apartment, so Taehyung wanted to buy the supplies of home, not wanting to be a burden.
They started walking through corridors, getting things in the cart which Yeonjun pushed happily.
"Do you want anything?" Taehyung asked after they were done.
"Juice!"Yeonjun said quickly.
Smiling, Taehyung nodded and got Yeonjun an apple juice, knowing that it was his son's favorite.
"Let's go home, and cook dinner, okay?" Taehyung asked, and Yeonjun nodded.
Smiling, Taehyung grabbed Yeonjun from his armpits suddenly, and put him in the cart. Yeonjun giggled happily as Taehyung drove him quickly to the desks at the exit.
"Hello," Taehyung smiled at the store owner, and froze as he realized that it was the same man who refused to give anything to Taehyung years ago.
"You…" The man glared at Taehyung. "What are you doing here?"
Taehyung glared back. He wasn't a scared child anymore. He could deal with anything thrown against him. He threw more than needed cash on the desk, and then left with Yeonjun quickly.
Feeling something was off, Yeonjun squeezed Taehyung's hand. Taehyung looked down at his son, and then smiled at him.
"Don't worry, everything's fine,"
Taehyung reassured his son.
Yeonjun nodded, though he couldn't help but realize the looks people were giving them as they walked down the street. Still, he was just a child, and it was easy to distract him.
"Mommy!" His small finger pointed a stand which held all kinds of masks.
Taehyung smiled. "Do you want one?"
Yeonjun nodded, and quickly he chose a mask, and put it on. It was a white wolf mask, with red lines adorning it.
He lifted his hands and started running around Taehyung in circles. "Boo!"
Taehyung gasped fakely. "Oh my, this little wolf here is so scary!"
"I'm not little!" Yeonjun said, trying to make his voice scary by shouting. "I am the great demon wolf V!"
Everything seemed to be happening slow motion after that. Silence descended over the street, and everybody moved away from Yeonjun and Taehyung. In the corner of his eye, Taehyung saw some people picking up stones from the ground. Quickly, he dropped the plastic bags he was carrying, and took Yeonjun behind him, and turned around himself, creating a barrier to protect them from the flying stones.
He had developed this in years. He had studied absolute defense, but instead of putting it raw power, he did it with his wind, making it more secure and effective.
When Taehyung stopped, he was panting quickly and sweat was dripping from his temples. He was having hard time with the baby he carried in him. But, still, he had managed to send the stones back. Unfortunately, he couldn't stop the words from being thrown at them.
"Why is the devil back?" One of the old women asked.
"And he has his spawn with him!" Somebody shouted.
" A devil pair!"
"Enough!" Taehyung shouted, silencing the people effectively.
"Call me anything you want, but I won't tolerate anything towards my son," He hissed dangerously, making the people take a few steps backwards. "You better watch out, or my Wolf will come to get you…"
Quickly, Taehyung threw Yeonjun's mask to the side, and then picked up his son, and balanced him on his hip. With his free arm, he grabbed the carrier bags from the ground, and started walking towards Jungwoo's apartment quickly.
"Mommy," Yeonjun called out in a shaky voice after a while. "Why they are so mean to us?"
"Because, they are bad people," Taehyung said. "That's why."
Taehyung was upset and furious, but he didn't let his son feel it. The child was already scared as it's. What bothered Taehyung the most was that the guard following him did nothing to stop the people or protect them.
They were all alone.
.
.
.
"Don't you want to sleep?" Taehyung asked softly, his fingers massaging his son's scalp.
"No," Yeonjun murmured. "I'll wait here till daddy comes," He said, not tearing his gaze away from the window that he was sitting in front of.
Taehyung sighed, and looked up as Jungwoo joined them, and handed Taehyung a big glass of hot milk.
"Thank you Jungwoo Songsengnim," Taehyung smiled at the man softly, and then handed Yeonjun the glass.
He accepted it silently, and kept watching outside. Though, it was already night, people were still out, enjoying their time with their friends, or families, going to restaurants or having a few drinks. But, Yeonjun didn't care about any of them. His gaze was fixed on the main road stubbornly, refusing to look away.
He handed his glass to his mother after he was done, and didn't resist as Taehyung took him in his arms.
Taehyung took Yeonjun in a sleeping position in his arms, but he let his son face the window. He started rocking him slowly, and started singing softly,
"Come, my baby's daddy, come, come, come…"
It was a lullaby that Taehyung sang to Yeonjun when he got restless and demanded Jungkook's presence. Yeonjun kept his eyes open for a while, but he couldn't resist the urge in the end, and fell asleep snuggled up to Taehyung's chest.
Taehyung let out a deep breath, and kissed Yeonjun's forehead gently.
"I heard what happened today," Jungwoo said softly.
Taehyung sighed, and nodded. "I don't know why they are like that," Taehyung whispered.
"I mean, I understand that it must have been really hard for them to lose their loved ones by a demon's attack. But, I lost my parents, as well," Taehyung rubbed his eyes, and kept whispering, not wanting to wake his son up.
"And on top of that, I was the one who had to bear the weight of a demon. But, nobody thinks how hard was it for me," Taehyung shrugged, and wiped away his tears quickly. "Nobody cares…"
Biting his lips, Jungwoo hugged Taehyung gently.
"Jungkook will be here soon," Taehyung whispered. "And, it won't be good Jungwoo Songsengnim. We suffered too much in the past, and he won't stop till he makes Seoul feel our pain, too… To be honest, I want them to feel what I felt, learn the pain of being lonely, and ashamed because of the way you're, and –and I'm not sure if I can stop Jungkook when the time comes, I don't have enough compassion for Seoul to do so…"
"It'll be fine," Jungwoo said softly, caressing Taehyung's back. "All will be well…"
"Thank you, Jungwoo Songsengnim," Taehyung gave his former teacher a small smile.
"It's best if we go to bed now."
"Yes," Jungwoo stood up with Taehyung. "Good night."
"Good night," Smiling at him Taehyung went to the guest room.
He lied on the bed with his baby son, but couldn't sleep at all.
.
.
.
"And then he-"
Taehyung stopped suddenly as he heard the doorbell.
It was late in the afternoon, and they were on the bed. Taehyung had his back against pillows, and Yeonjun was leaning his back against Taehyung's chest, and Taehyung was holding a story book in Yeonjun's lap, and reading it to him.
"Wait me a little, baby," Taehyung said and left the bed, going to the door quickly.
"Yoongi?"
Yoongi nodded at Taehyung, hands in his pockets. "How are you?"
Taehyung shrugged. "Fine, I guess…"
It was over a week that they were in Seoul, and Taehyung had to contact with Yoongi regularly, he was the adviser chief after all.
"I'm going to barbeque with all of our friends, wanna come?" Yoongi suggested.
"I'm… not sure," Taehyung hadn't seen any other person after the incident in the market place, and he didn't want to expose his son to strangers.
"Come on, it'll be good," Yoongi insisted.
Sighing, Taehyung nodded. "Okay… Just wait a little, will you?"
"I'll be downstairs," The lazy genius nodded at Taehyung and went down.
Sighing once again, Taehyung changed his and Yeonjun's clothes, and grabbing his bag, he went after Yoongi.
They walked slowly, talking about useless things, but stopped suddenly, as a man appeared right in front of them.
"Jaehyun-songsengnim?"Taehyung blinked in shock after seeing one of his former teachers for the first time.
"Oh my, isn't this our Taehyung?" Jaehyun smiled. "How have you been?"
"Fine, Jaehyun-songsengnim," Taehyung smiled at the man. "You?"
"Good, good," Jaehyun nodded, and then kneeled before Yeonjun, who was holding Taehyung's hand tightly.
"Is this some kind of trick?" Jaehyun asked. "What's up Jungkook?"
"I'm not Jungkook!" Yeonjun said quickly.
Raising his visible eyebrow, Jaehyun lifted his hair, revealing his red eye’s, and studied Yeonjun.
Yeonjun gasped, and tugged Taehyung's hand, whispering to him, "He has an eye like daddy's!"
"Yes," Smiling, Taehyung whispered back.
"Who are you then?" Jaehyun asked this time.
"My name is Yeonjun Jeon, believe it!" Yeonjun shouted.
"Oh my, it's Taehyung in Jungkook disguise!" Jaehyun gasped mockingly.
Taehyung laughed softly. "He's my son, Jaehyun-songsengnim."
"And, daddy's!" Yeonjun chirped.
"And, Jungkook's," Taehyung nodded with a smile.
"Seems like we have so many things to catch up," Jaehyun said.
"Now, if you excuse me, I'm back from a long mission, and I need to see someone at once."
"Yes," Taehyung nodded. "See you later then."
"See you," Waving a hand, Jaehyun disappeared.
Soon, they entered the restaurant, and Yoongi guided them into a table which was suited at the corner of the place.
All of Taehyung's friends were there, and they all seemed really surprised seeing Taehyung right before them.
"Uhmm, hello," Taehyung smiled at them softly.
There were Minho, Jin, Naeun, Ken, Jaemin, Jinyoung, Youngjae, Nana who was glaring at Taehyung heatedly, Kai and Kyungsoo and the end of the table and a child between them.
"Hmph," Ken crossed his arms over his chest and looked away.
"Don't be so troublesome,"
Yoongi sighed, and sat down.
Swallowing a lump, Taehyung sat down beside him, across from Kai, and took Yeonjun in his lap.
"These are mommy and daddy's old friends, say hello baby."
"Hello!" Yeonjun chirped. "My name is Yeonjun Jeon, it's nice meeting all of you!"
Everybody blinked and said hello back to Yeonjun slowly.
"S-So," Taehyung cleared his throat, and kept talking, "How have you been?"
"Fine, Taehyung-ah," Kyungsoo answered back to Taehyung, a soft blush on his cheeks.
"I'm glad to hear that, Kyungsoo," Taehyung smiled at the shy man and then looked at the child that sat beside him. He had black hair, pale skin, and brown eyes of a Kai. "Who is this handsome man?"
“ He's mine, and Kai-ssi's -son, Taemin," Kyungsoo said, blushing deeply. " We are married."
Taehyung was really surprised but he didn't show it, instead he just smiled. "Congratulations!"
Then, he turned to Yeonjun, and smiled at him. "Look, Yeonjun, a friend for you! Why don't you greet him?"
Yeonjun nodded, and smiled at the unresponsive boy across from him. "Hello, my name is Yeonjun Jeon! I'm going to be the greatest fighter ever! How about you?"
When he got no response, Yeonjun was disappointed a little, but he tried again. "How old are you? I'm five!"
"He's five, too," Kyungsoo supplied for her son.
"Ughh," Yeonjun looked at Taehyung, who encouraged him to go on with a smile. "Do you have any siblings?"
"No, he doesn't," Again, Kyungsoo spoke for the child.
"See, I'm going to be a big brother soon!" Yeonjun chirped and touched Taehyung's baby bump.
"Mommy's carrying my brother here! I hope I can be a good big brother like my uncle!"
Everybody was stunned after hearing that.
"You're pregnant?" Nana asked, venom dripping from her mouth.
Taehyung hadn't wanted to reveal his pregnancy, but then again, he hadn't warned Yeonjun about it, so he nodded softly.
"How is this even possible?" Kai spoke for the first time, his gold eyes, and locked on Taehyung's abdomen.
"Daddy says mommy is his miracle, and he can do anything if he wants!" Yeonjun said happily and then talked to Taemin again,
"Does your mommy carry your brother inside, too?"
When he got no response, Yeonjun looked at Taehyung. "He doesn't know how to talk!"
Taehyung blinked. "Maybe… We should apologize if we hurt his feelings."
"My son knows how to talk," Kai hissed. "He just doesn't talk to traitors, or their brat."
Taehyung was taken aback by Kai's coldness, and was even more shocked when Taemin spoke for the first time,
"Where is your father?"
Yeonjun took a sharp breath, but he had no answer to that question.
"I don't know…"
"He must have abandoned you, that's the way of the traitors,"
Taemin said easily, having learned them from his father.
The next thing, Taehyung hadn't expected. A sob left his son's lips and he started crying loudly.
"Oh, my love," Taehyung took his son his arms quickly, and started rocking his son, pushing back his own tears.
"I w-want daddy!"Yeonjun spoke hardly. "W-Where is d-daddy? Did h-he forget Y-Yeonjun?"
"Look at me, baby," Taehyung took Yeonjun's face in his hands, and wiped away his precious tears with his thumbs.
"Never, daddy would never forget Yeonjun! He loves Yeonjun the most."
"W-Where is h-he?" Yeonjun asked this time.
"He's coming to get us," Taehyung assured his son.
"He'll take us, and we'll turn back home together… Do you want me to tell you how things are going?"
Yeonjun nodded, his teary eyes fixed on Taehyung's face.
"You know that daddy left for an important mission before we went to the festival, right?"
Taehyung asked, and Yeonjun nodded.
"I told Uncle Bambam that we were leaving for a week, so when we didn't turn back after a week, our people must have worried, and started looking for us."
"B-But, how will t-they know we're here?" Yeonjun asked, sniffling.
"I took one of Seoul fighter's sign, and left it behind along with mine," Taehyung said, pointing at his neck where he wore his headband usually. "After they found them, they must have known that we're taken here. And then, immediately, they must have sent a messenger bird to daddy. After hearing the news, daddy must have dropped his mission and took his fighters with him to come to take us back," Taehyung explained slowly.
"He'll be here soon?" Yeonjun asked hopefully.
"Yes, he'll," Taehyung smiled at his baby son. "You do know how fast daddy is!"
"Yes, he is!" Yeonjun agreed happily.,
"Yes," Taehyung rubbed his son's back. "So, don't cry, or your daddy will be upset."
Yeonjun nodded quickly, and then started caressing Taehyung's cheeks, ignoring the rest of the table.
Taehyung kissed his forehead softly. "Do you remember what daddy tells you before leaving for missions?"
Yeonjun nodded. "He tells me he doesn't want to leave us alone, but he has to. And, he also says that hearts are in lightning speed, so actually there is no distance between us. He always comes back for us…"
"That's so true, baby," Taehyung caressed his son's dark hair and then touched his legs, and frowned deeply.
"You're cold."
He took of Yeonjun's blanket from his bag, and helped him to wear it.
"Now, you should eat something," Taehyung said.
Yeonjun shook his head, and laid his head over Taehyung's heart.
"I don't wanna eat."
"But, I know that you're hungry," Taehyung said, caressing Yeonjun's chubby cheek with a hand.
"No," Yeonjun mumbled, and snuggled deeper into Taehyung's chest.
"How about I feed you?" Taehyung suggested with a soft smile.
After a moment of hesitation, Yeonjun nodded slowly.
"Okay," Taehyung refused any contact with the rest of the table after that, and only focused on filling his son's stomach.
Taehyung put the meats in his plate on the grill in front of him, and waited for a while for them to get ready. When they were grilled the way Yeonjun liked, he took one with his chopsticks, and blew over it. He touched the meat with his lips, and when he was sure that it wouldn't burn his son's mouth, he fed Yeonjun with it. He kept repeating the process, till Yeonjun said he didn't want to eat anymore.
Taehyung took a handkerchief, and cleaned his son's mouth.
"Let's go back now, okay?"
Yeonjun nodded, and stood up, Taehyung following after him.
"Thanks for inviting us, Yoongi," Taehyung nodded to the genius.
"And…" He talked to his so-called friends without looking at their faces.
"It's easy to call people traitors. But, have you ever tried to think how it was for Jungkook? What would you do if your whole clan was murdered by the city you swore to protect and served? Have you ever thought how it was for me? Have you ever imagined how would it feel to carry the burden of a Wolf Demon, and then blamed and shunned for it? I don't think you have… I don't think you would ever do. You keep living in your perfect city, and we'll go to ours, hopefully, we won't ever have to see each other again. Good night."
Taehyung held Yeonjun's hand and walked to the exit. He paid for the whole table, and then left without looking back.
Taehyung took a deep breath, cool night air filling his lungs, and then held Yeonjun's hand, guiding them back to Jungwoo's apartment. They were both silent as they walked, an uneasy feeling settled over them.
"I love you," Yeonjun blurted out suddenly. "You're the best mommy ever!"
Taehyung stopped and looked at his son. This time he couldn't help his tears as he dropped down onto his knees.
"I love you, too," He hugged his son tightly. "You're the best son I could have asked for…"
They stood there in the middle of the road holding onto each other for a while. When they heard fireworks exploding, they looked up, and Yeonjun smiled happily, pointing at them. Taehyung smiled, too, and started following after his son, as Yeonjun run and sometimes jumped to catch the colorful fireworks.
"I can't get them!" Yeonjun complained, making Taehyung laugh.
However, his laughter died in his throat as Yeonjun bumped into a people hardly, making him stumble backwards.
"S-Sorry," Yeonjun mumbled, but it seemed it wasn't enough because the man pushed the child back, making him fall on his butt harshly.
"What are you doing?" Taehyung shouted, as he helped his son to get up.
"He didn't do it on purpose!"
"He attacked me!" The man shouted as loud as he could. "The devil attacked me!"
"Wh-What are you saying?" Taehyung asked unbelievingly, but he could see people gathering around them, and none of them looked friendly.
"Go away!" Somebody shouted.
"You're unwanted!"
"We have to protect our children," A woman shouted.
With a sudden decision, Taehyung picked Yeonjun up, and started running as fast as he could. Though, he couldn't go far.
The word of the demon attacking the people spread like wind, and Taehyung stopped breathing hardly as they circled around him. He hid Yeonjun behind his back, and took a defensive position. It wasn't long before stones, woods, and shoes, anything the people could land their hands on started flying towards them.
Taehyung wanted to send them back, but he didn't have any power and finally, the bonds he carried started affecting him to the point where even standing was a problem. So, he did the only thing he could think of, and dropped to his knees. He took Yeonjun in his arms, and curled around him, and closed his eyes tightly.
He hissed as he felt the heavy materials beating his back, but he only focused on protecting Yeonjun.
He took a deep breath as it stopped, so he looked at his son, and checked him quickly. He took a deep breath as he saw no injuries on his son.
"Are you alright?" He asked and Yeonjun nodded quickly.
Taehyung stood up on his shaky feet, and was shocked to see guard's in the crowd. Nobody tried to help them. Tears filled his eyes, as he realized that it might be the end of his life here.
He actually didn't mind dying, but his son had done nothing to deserve this. He was so young...
"I-I am the devil," Taehyung said. "K-Kill me, let my son go…"
Taehyung blinked as a familiar face stepped in front of the crowd. "Minho?"
There was no mistake with the scar on his face and his big built.
"Minho you have to help me!"
Taehyung shouted. "They're accusing me of things I haven't done!"
Taehyung wanted to jump in joy as Minho approached him quickly, but the next second a harsh slap sent him flying to the ground.
"M-Mommy!"Yeonjun run to Taehyung's side who couldn't get up anymore.
When Yeonjun saw Minho approaching to them again, he did the only thing he could think of and his small hands formed hand seals quickly.
"Fireball!"
His father had showed him how to do it before he left, but this was Yeonjun's first time trying it. Still, it worked, and the flames managed to push Minho and the crowd away from them.
Taehyung was panting heavily and his hands were on his stomach when Hye Jin appeared, pushing the crowd out of her way.
"What's happening here?" She shouted loudly.
The people started to talk at the same time, asking why the demon was back, and wanting Taehyung and his spawn to be executed.
"They are being kept, because we're waiting to get another rough fighter," Hye Jin explained loudly, her eyes on Taehyung.
"I can make him talk in no time," Minho said confidently.
The crowd agreed with him, and started advancing on Taehyung and Yeonjun again, not listening to Hye Jin's protests.
Suddenly, black flames, that nobody knew where they came from, circled around Taehyung and Yeonjun, and stopped the people where they were. Some of them touched the flames accidently, and they tried to extinguish them, but nothing they did worked, and they died screaming.
An absolute silence took over the city, and nobody dared to speak.
Only except one happy Jeon child.
"Daddy!"
