The sole thing keeping Marinette awake after a long night of Ladybugging, was Adrien. No, she wasn't sitting behind him or staring at her many pictures of him. Instead, she was watching her computer feed as Adrien explained some obscure history about the French monarchy to the rest of the class.
When online school was announced in response to the pandemic, Marinette was really worried. Thankfully though, her fears hadn't come to play out. Up to now no teacher required that webcams be on, meaning that Tikki was free to go about her room without classmates hollering "cookie ghost!" A bonus was that if there was an alumna she wouldn't have to make a terrible excuse to get out of class. If I teacher tried to call her out for a lack of participation during the time she was gone she could claim the akuma had knocked out her WiFi. Honestly, in comparison to the rest of her classmates, Marinette was far less stressed about things going online.
"There is actually no proof that Marie Antionette..." Marinette turned up her volume to better hear her crush just in time for a deafening crash to shoot through her headphones. She quickly jerked them off her ears and got them stuck in her unbrushed har. Tikki looked up from inside her cookie jar.
"What's wrong, Marinette?"
"Loud crash at Adrien's," the girl said, still struggling with her headphones. "There might be another akuma."
Naturally, as she said that her headphones became unplugged allowing her and Tiki to hear. "Sorry, that noise was from something falling off my shelf. Just a second." Adrien's camera then turned off. Tikki slunk back down into the jar, and Ms. Bustier switched on her microphone and was about to speak right on time to be interrupted.
"PLAGG! Get down! What are you doing?" The words steadily got quieter before fading into nothing as the yeller walked away from their mic.
"Um..." The teacher questioned before again adopting her usual professional tone, "Please keep your mics off unless you need to ask a question or are speaking to the class." The educator tried to go on until moments later the same voice again came through everyone's computers.
"Stop it Plagg, I'm serious! I need to get back to class." This time the voice crescendoed and decrescendoed as the sentences were said.Over the cackling computer microphone most people couldn't tell who was talking. But Marinette knew, and now it was bothering her that she couldn't remember where she had heard the name Plagg before.
Madame Bustier tried to keep her class on track, but it was going to well as evidenced by the class message box being spammed with question marks and laughing emojis.
"Meow, meow, meow." Adrien's profit finally pooped up, signifying to everyone that the noises were coming from his microphone. The unfamiliar sounds were assuredly not made by him though. Aside from the fact that it would be really weird for Adrien to randomly meow, the sounds came from something with a higher, more raspy voice. It was best described as like a nasely cat trying to convince others that it was indeed a cat.
"Why are you meowing at me? You know where your chee- oh shoo-!" Adrien's profile then disappeared from the screen and the class chat erupted in laughing emojis. It got so bad that their flustered teacher had to temporarily ban her students from using it.
"Class! It is all fun and games until something like that happens to you. Now, please pay attention. This will all be on your quiz next week."
Marineete didn't go back to paying attention however. She was still confounded onto why she couldn't remember where she had heard of a cat named Plagg before.
Tikki pulled herself up to peer out from the side of her jar; too full from cookies and second hand embarrassment to actually get out. However she wasn't too full for her to not care about what exactly happened.
That stinky sock is going to come to regret his little stunt the next time I see him.
"Oh my gosh! Plagg is Chat Noir's kwami!"
Oh, he is going to more than regret it.
