~Chapter 17~Fear~

~Merlin's Pov~

The battle had started soon after I reminded the Captain to not lose control of himself. I knew Sis Sis wouldn't be able to forgive herself if the Captain lost control for her. As the battle went on, all of us ended up being split up on the battlefield. We kept it as far from Liones as we could. We had lost more on our own side than the Goddesses were but seeing and the Captain made many run from the battle out of fear. He was able to stun and give the heaviest hit to the enemy. I was fighting alongside other mage Holy Knights.

Though it wasn't looking good. Everyone was losing morale from watching their friends and family die around them. It wasn't long until we were able to see the Captain, he was covered in dirt, blood and bruises. "DON'T GIVE IN, WE CAN WIN THIS TOGETHER, DON'T LEAVE EACH OTHER's SIDES!" the Captain shouted and with that, he was able to regain the lost morale, getting our people to fight harder, to push the Goddesses back harder. The Captain giving off small speeches and sentences every so often.

He was able to keep pushing us all forward. It wasn't long until we faced the three Archangels of the Goddess Clan. Myself, the Captain and Arthur ended up being the ones in front of them somehow in all this horrid mess. Wars were always like this, always the same in so many ways. "When Tarmiel said you were alive, I couldn't believe it myself...Meliodas" Ludociel spoke with a laugh, the Captain only glared at him, not looking happy at all. Upsetting him, even more, would've been a Uttley stupid move.

"Captain" I spoke hoping to get an idea of our moves. Arthur was already in a fighting stance as the Captain aimed his sword at Ludociel, his green eyes slowly turning black. "I would run back to your cowards' hole...Ludociel" Captain then snapped, only getting the Goddess to laugh in return. The three Archangels didn't have a single scratch or patch of dirt on them. They had full energy while the three of us were at least at half way. I knew my magic would've sooner or later ran out, I was worried for Arthur.

He hasn't yet unlocked his ability, though it was impressive to get this far without it. Standing with Ludociel and Tarmiel was Sariel. He was the other archangel. The Demon Prince Estarossa had killed the fourth archangel long ago. There only being three left. They were very powerful even without their fourth member. Sariel had the appearance of a child, his light blue bangs covering most of his forehead. He had four angelic wings on his back, one pair much small than the other. He was wearing an outfit that matched King's.

The colour theme also being the same. He was a complicated person to read/understand. Even Sis Sis told me about him before. He may have looked weak and like a child but he was far more powerful than anyone would believe at first. I sweatdropped, as the Captain was close to losing it fully. "I wonder, will your lover be in a coma the whole three days? The longer she is in that coma the more painful the death" Ludociel laughed loudly, causing the Captain to send out a huge blast wave of power. His rage was hitting a limit.

He was close to fully losing it and slaughtering everyone. "You all have no reason to hate Lady Elizabeth! So what she fell in love with someone of another race? Who cares!?!" Arthur nearly shouted getting many people's attention around us. The three archangels were soon looking right at him. This caused me to move to stand close to him. I knew I would struggle to fight the three of them but I couldn't let them touch Arthur. "Because people are different races doesn't mean they can't get along" Arthur then added.

"I still stand by Sir Meliodas, I couldn't care if he is a demon, goddess or human" Arthur then snapped, sounding proud of himself. Arthur's words had calmed down the Captain even, I was in some shock but kept my eyes on the Goddesses in front of me. Ludociel was glaring at Arthur, not happy about his small speech. "Arthur is correct, the three of you should just notice that this war, this hate you have is pointless" I spoke gaining Tarmiel and Sariel to start thinking. Sadly, Ludociel was fully against my words.

He summoned a sword in his hands. The Captain was the first to move, attacking the archangel in full force. I wasn't sure why the Captain and Sis Sis hated Ludociel so much. Their hate for him was more than the Demon King and the Supreme Deity. Tarmiel and Sariel moved to flank the Captain until I used what power I had left to make both of their bodies get attacked by explosions. I was causing explosions in front of them and inside of their bodies without break, sweat rushing down my head.

Arthur was begging me not to push myself before rushing forward to help the Captain in his sword fight with Ludociel. I was trying to keep up my block I knew I needed a five-second breather. If I didn't have the breather my own powers would've stopped attacking my targets and would hit myself. In the blink of an eye, Tarmiel was in front of me punching me hard around the face. I was sent flying backwards and into the ground hard. My spell vanishing when it happened. I heard Arthur and the Captain shout my name worried.

"Those are some pretty painful explosions there" I heard Tarmiel speak as I got onto my feet fast to see Sariel in front of me. I learnt from Sis Sis that being up close to him wasn't wise. His main ability made him have a deadly and powerful defence. I went to move away from him fast until Tarmiel vanished and showed up once again next to me, grabbing my neck faster than I could move. "MERLIN!" I heard Arthur shout as loud as he could in fear and worried as I only sweatdropped. Struggling to get a much air as I needed.

"You are far too powerful to keep around" Tarmiel spoke with no emotion as his grip got a hell of a lot stronger. I was struggling to breathe all together as Sariel had left to keep Arthur from coming to my aid. In the corner of my eye, I could see that the Captain was losing control of his rage while fighting Ludociel. My sight was getting blurry, I was unable to use any spells or abilities. My hands were on Tramiel's arm, trying to pull him off me. He was about to use a spell or ability of his own but a powerful Sun Burst came flying in and pushing him away from me.

I was free from his grip. I fell to the ground coughing and gasping for air. My sight slowly returned as I was blinking like crazy. Merlin are you alright?" I heard Escanor's voice as I look up to see him looking at me worried. I was still trying to catch my breath. "Thanks" I whispered between breaths as Escanor's cheeks went slightly red. I was trying to get my act together as everyone was fighting around us. Escanor was soon fighting off Goddesses from finishing me off. I was unable to move much but I knew I had to.

I had to find a way to be useful to Sis Sis. "My choice if I can't fight, rely on those around you and I mean everyone. People are not the only ones alive and around you. Look to natures soul" I heard Sis Sis's voice echo in my head as I closed my eyes, my hands flat on the ground. 'Natures soul'. I wasn't sure about what she meant back then. I still wasn't fully. I was in utter shock to feel a burst of energy come at my hands from the ground below. I felt the ground itself giving my energy. I was soon pushing myself to my feet, backing up Escanor.

I was using as many spells as I could, not wanting to use up my ability. Escanor was in shock I was able to recover so soon but was smirking, claiming we were the 'strongest' team-up. It only made me laugh and smile. "MERLIN, WE NEED TO SNAP THE CAPTAIN OUT OF HIS RAGE!" I soon heard Ban nearly shout causing me to turn to see the Captain's demonic marks going out of control on his body. Though Ludociel was struggling to keep up with his attacks. If we had just let the Captain keep going he most likely would've killed Ludociel right there and then, but would've ended up killing us all.

"I'm unsure what to do this time around, he mentions Sis Sis and sent the Captain off" I spoke worried as Escanor was asking if Gowther could make the Captain see a fake Elizabeth to calm down. I wasn't sure if it would work. I knew I had no choice but to agree but before I was able to do anything a huge blast came from all three archangels. Everything had gone white. My whole body was covered it utter pain, I felt some type of liquid on me. I heard people shouting in pain, many screaming in fear. My eyes were slowly opening to see the three archangels over the Captain.

He was in bad condition on the ground. He looked as if he was struggling to breathe. I noticed that everyone who was fighting for Liones was on the ground. They were out for the count. I was starting to get worried. Escanor was next to me, both of us were badly bleeding and looked as if we should be dead. I was unable to move or do a thing. "Now then..." Ludociel spoke looking up at the army that was killing soldiers that lived through what type of hit we all took. I noticed Arthur wasn't that far from the archangels and the Captain.

My worrying going up even more. "FIND ME THE TRAITOR ELIZABETH!" Ludociel shouted causing the army to move toward the walls of Liones. Mine and the Captain's eyes widened. I was trying to move. That was when a golden light blast through the walls sending the Goddesses flying away from it. Everyone was in shock until Sis Sis out of nowhere showed up, standing above the Captain. "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM MY HUSBAND AND FRIENDS!" she shouted in utter rage, her eyes showing the Goddess Clan symbol.

"Elizabeth" Ludociel spoke smirking but it didn't last long as Sis Sis moved fast blasting all three archangels away from where she was standing then moved punching Ludociel in the air. The damage on him was a bad as my own. Multiple holes and wounds showed up in his body as he was up into the sky. She then moved in front of Sariel, kicking him around the face, sending him flying away from Liones altogether. "I owe you for what you did in the Mind World Tarmiel, so I ask you...stand down" Sis Sis then spoke as she stood there, not even looking at the last standing archangel.

Everyone was in utter shock. The blood of Ludociel on Sis Sis's hand and Sariel's blood on her leg. She looked in pure pain, she looked a lot paler than she should've been. "The curse is already taking effect of you Old Friend. It's giving you so much pain as it is...you know how it will kill you...will you really go through that much pain for some demon?" Tarmiel asked loudly getting both Liones and the Goddess Clan armies to watch and listen. Sis Sis turned her head to look at Tarmiel with a smile on her face.

"I would go through Purgatory and back for him" she answered shocking everyone but the Captain. He looked more worried hearing Tramiel's wording. The archangel stood there in shock as Sis Sis moved her arm fast, catching a sword in her hand without getting any cuts or scratches even. The one holding the sword was an out of breath Ludociel. "That demon has truly poisoned your mind this much? Maybe we should've placed a different punishment on you!" Ludociel nearly shouted as Sis Sis let out an annoyed 'tisk'.

She was soon glaring toward Ludociel as his sword blew up in both his hands and Elizabeth's. Everyone watched as Sis Sis didn't get harmed at all, while Ludociel was on the ground looking near death. "You truly are ready to face a painful death like that...the pain you have is nothing to what it will grow into in the next three days Elizabeth!" Sariel had returned, coming from the sky above, he landed next to Tarmiel. He looked worried and scared for Sis Sis. She only smiled brightly. "This pain..." she whispered looking at her own hand.

"It's nothing compared to what you all have put my husband through. What kind of wife would I be if I couldn't do the same?" she soon asked looking at the two what seemed neutral goddesses. Everyone was whispering as I only then noticed everyone in the Liones army was being healed. We all were finally able to sense that Sis Sis had been healing us all since she got here. "I know none of you can see eye to eye with the Demon Clan but that is because you never bothered to try hard enough" Sis Sis spoke as it was then clear on her face.

She was in utter pain. She was struggling to stay awake or even stand. Let alone fight. "I will always be willing and ready to suffering hell and back for my family. If any of you like it or not my family are Meliodas and Merlin. Take your army and go home. This curse on me now will only delay the fight and in end, the outcome would be the same as if I was fine. You would all drop dead" Sis Sis then nearly shouted as the whole Goddess Clan Army was soon looking as if they were agreeing with her.

They were talking about how it wasn't fair she was being punished for being in love. Many were saying she was right about this war is pointless. "The one thing I will ever fear is losing Meliodas and Merlin for good. You all and the Demon King are the same. You wanted this painful death to scare me into just killing myself off early" Sis Sis spoke loudly worrying me and the Captain as he was pushing himself to sit up. I was hearing our own people moving, pushing themselves to stand. Many talking to the other about her.

Many were inspired by her words and actions. "I will stand by my husband. I will fight by his side until these three days are up. I don't care what you all do to me. I won't let you hurt those who are innocent, I won't let you hurt my family" Elizabeth then spoke as she kept a smile on her face. Closing her eyes and looking truly happy at the two archangels in front of her. Both stood there in utter shock. I pushed myself to stand, a smile growing on my face. "The three of us were good friends once" Sis Sis spoke putting a hand on her chest.

"We can be again. You both believed in me too. You both believed that we could have peace. There is always a chance, we just have to fight for it and earn it" She spoke slowly opening her eyes. Tarmiel was soon ordering the army to retreat and to return home. Sariel only smiled floating in the air as he closed his eyes. "Same old Elizabeth. You always find a way to understand people's hearts and speak to them" he spoke as Tarmiel moved to Ludociel's side. I only noticed he had blacked out.

"You do know after three days...you will suffer the most painful known possible in this country Elizabeth. You also know the cure for this curse is impossible to gather together, let alone make. We will try letting you have the next three days alone with the two you hold close to your heart" Sariel spoke bowing toward Sis Sis as she only laughed slightly, thanking him for listening to her. That was when all of them left, once the last goddess was gone we were all standing, cheering for Elizabeth.

She turned looking at Meliodas who was sighing in relief but all our worries and fear grew back when Sis Sis blacked out falling forwards toward the ground.
