Chapter 91: The Double Date

The next day, Apollo and Aphrodite were preparing for the double date. Both twins were very nervous.

"Apollo, what am I going to wear?" Aphrodite asked.

"Wear the blue one," he replied, pointing to one of his sister's gowns.

"It doesn't make me look overweight?"

Apollo looked shocked. "My sister, you are the most slender person I know. Why, if I stood you next to a twig, the twig would look obese in comparison."

"So, no? That's all I was looking for. Just a simple 'yes' or 'no', not your smart remarks."

   "No."

"You should wear that lovely blue tie. It matches with my dress."

"Won't we look too much like twins?"

Aphrodite looked at her brother. He was tall like their father. He had his father's black hair and bright blue eyes. Every facial feature was almost identical to Erik's. "We already do," she pointed out, "because we are."

"Yes, but I look like Father. You look like Mother," Apollo argued.

"I have Mother's face shape and hair, yes, but-"

   "And nose," Apollo interjected.

"Insolent boy," Aphrodite said as she turned her brother to face the mirror. "Look at your face in the mirror. I am there inside."

Apollo glanced at the reflection. "Yes, I suppose so."

Suddenly, Erik's voice came booming down the hallway, "Ignorant fool, this brave young suitor." Erik appeared in the doorway with a laugh. "Forgive me for overhearing, but I have to agree with Aphrodite. The two of you look very much alike."

The twins laughed and conversed with their father for a few more moments before he departed from their doo .

"I think I shall indeed go with the blue tie," Apollo decided.

"Good. It matches you eyes," Aphrodite smiled, putting on red lipstick.

The twins finished getting dressed while talking lively about how they expected the night to turn out. Aphrodite was very optimistic, whereas Apollo was being a pessimist.

"Must you always think negative thoughts?" Aphrodite asked.

"I can't help it. It's how my mind works," Apollo retorted.

"Chin up, Apollo. Alice really likes you. I am fully certain that everything will go smoothly tonight."

   "One can hope."

Aphrodite placed her hands on her brother's shoulders. "Have some faith in yourself."

"As you wish, love," he conceded, gently kissing his sister on the forehead.

The twins met the Gastons at six o'clock at the bottom of the staircase.

"Aphrodite, your look wonderful," Vincent greeted.

"As do you," was her replied.

Apollo greeted Alice by kissing the back of her hand and whispering, "Stupéfiante," which means "breathtaking" when translated.

"You flatter me, Apollo," Alice replied, blushing a little.

"Shall we be off to dinner?" Vincent quickly asked.

   "Yes, let's," Aphrodite agreed.

So, just like that, the four were off to dinner. The night went extremely well. It ended with Aphrodite receiving a kiss from Vincent, and Alice receiving a kiss from Apollo.
The twins talked excitedly as they made their way through the catacombs.

"He kissed me! He actually kissed me!" Aphrodite exclaimed, shaking her brother by the shoulders.

Apollo rested calming hands on his sister. "Of course he did. You're a wonderful person."

Aphrodite smiled teasingly. "You kissed Alice."

   "Stop it," he laughed.

"This is a momentous occasion for you. It is my right, as your older sister, to mock you for it."

The twins continued to laugh and talk joyously for the rest of the night. They were incredibly happy. They decided to join their parents in singing as their father played piano.

"Erik, tonight was wonderful," Christine said after Apollo and Aphrodite went off to bed.

"It was just like we used to do when they were younger," Erik remarked. "I've missed this."

"As have I," Christine agreed. "As have I."
