Chapter 72: Catherine's Little Bundle
Pierre went to go order a couple carriages and Christine left the room to gather the rest of the family, leaving Erik alone with his daughter.
"Papa, it hurts. Please, make it stop. I just want it to end," Catherine pled. She looked at her father with the same expression she would give when she was a little girl, pleading with him to make the other girls stop picking on her.
"Darling child, I'm afraid I can't help you this time," Erik said gravely. "Come, let me help you through this labyrinth and into the carriage."
"Okay," Catherine replied weakly.
Once more, the Destler family was off to the apartment for yet another birth. The entire time, Catherine was trying to remember how exactly she got herself into this mess. Well, she knew how. She was really focusing more on why she got herself into this mess. She recalled watching when Bella gave birth to Athena. That was a sight to behold. Memory flooded back to her and she remembered saying that she would never have children. How Catherine wished she had stuck with that decision.
When they arrived at the apartment, the doctor was there waiting for them.
After a little while, Catherine began the torturous act of pushing.
"Just one more, Catherine. You can do it," Pierre encouraged.
"Come on, Catherine. You got this. You're so close," Aphrodite reminded.
Catherine gave a final push and with tears in her eyes, gave a sigh of relief. Slowly, the wailing child was placed on her chest. She could hardly believe that she had a daughter.
"She's perfect," Pierre said.
"She's got my deformity. Not to worry, it's nothing major. She is still very much perfect, in my eyes," Catherine replied.
Pierre added, "It's nothing she won't be able to cover with her hair when she's older. You know, my dear, we haven't discussed names."
"We should name her Victoria."
"Victoria Destler. It does have a lovely ring to it."
"We should bring my family in."
"I shall retrieve them."
Once Pierre had left the room, Aphrodite began to gush over her niece. "She's gorgeous, Cath."
The rest of the Destlers crowded into the room. Each family member got a chance to hold the newborn.
Erik had noticed the scar of twisted flesh around the child's right ear. It looked exactly like Catherine's. Erik hoped that young Victoria wouldn't be treated as poorly as Catherine had been in her youth.
The remainder of the day was spent at the apartment. The family was very happy. Victoria was a very healthy child, and for that, the family was thankful.
Catherine had mixed feelings on the prospect of becoming a mother. On one hand, she was very happy because she had brought this bundle into the world, but on the other had, she was afraid that she was an unfit mother. Pierre assure her that she would in fact be a wonderful mother to Victoria.
Though the Destler family was joyous now, very soon they wouldn't be.
