Chapter 63: The Dream
The next morning, Catherine took decisive action. She was going to get Pierre and they were going to tell her family that night. She immediately dressed and went to Pierre's room. She knocked on the door.
"Come in," came the eighteen-year-old boy's voice.
Catherine entered. "We are going to tell my parents. Tonight. We must tell them tonight. We can't let this end up like last time."
"Are you sure that this is what you want?" Pierre asked.
"Yes. This is what I want," Catherine replied definitively.
"Okay, then. Tonight it is," Pierre said, his voice cracking.
That night, Catherine made a mistake. A grave mistake. She thought it would be best if she told her father about the engagement before Pierre got there.
"Father, can I talk to you?" Catherine asked.
"Of course, Darling," Erik replied.
"Pierre proposed to me and I accepted," Catherine blurted.
"What?" Erik's voice boomed. "Your chains are still mine. You belong to me!"
"You don't understand. Please just hear me out," Catherine begged.
Just then, Pierre appeared on the other side of the large gate. He had made his way through the catacombs on his own.
"Wait. I think, my dear, we have a guest," Erik interrupted.
"Hello Monsieur Destler. Fine evening we're having, isn't it?" Pierre greeted, completely oblivious to Catherine's previous declaration.
"Monsieur, I bid you welcome," Erik said in a tone that frightened Pierre.
"Is something wrong, Monsieur Destler?"
"What? Do you think I would harm your precious fiancée? Why would I make her pay for the sins which are yours?" Erik said as he through Pierre up against the gate and tied up the boy. "Raise up your hand to the level of your eyes!"
"Catherine, what's going on?" Pierre asked, confused.
"I told him," Catherine confessed.
"What on Earth would impel you to do that? You were supposed to wait for me."
"I thought that it would somehow be better if I told him on my own."
"Prepare to die," Erik said as he threw his Punjab lasso over Pierre's head.
Catherine awoke with a start. "Thank God. It was all a dream," she sighed. "It was all just a dream."
After this, Catherine was certain that she had to tell her family about the engagement. She couldn't let what happened in her dream happen in real life. Of course she knew that her father wouldn't really kill either her or her fiancé, but she knew he would be upset. She was his little girl, after all.
Catherine got dressed and went to go meet with Pierre on the rooftop. It was early and she was only half awake, but she managed to find her way through the catacombs.
"My Darling!" Pierre greeted.
"Pierre, I had the most awful dream," Catherine said a proceeded to tell him of her dream.
"That does sound awful. Do you really think he'd tie me up and kill me?" Pierre asked after Catherine finished.
"No, I don't. However, I do know that he will be upset. What do we do?"
"Relax. We'll tell them tonight and we must do it together. Don't get any ideas like you did in your dream."
"Okay," Catherine laughed. "You can be sure I won't. Not after that."
The conversation didn't continue much longer, for Catherine had to prepare for that night. She was going to be telling her family of her engagement and it wasn't going to be easy.
