Two months later, Gustave turned fourteen.

   "He's growing up so fast," Christine commented one night.

   "I know. I remember the night he was born like it was yesterday," Erik replied.

   "I know that the two of you are talking about me," Gustave said from across the room as he fixed his suit jacket. He was going to meet with Celeste.

   "Insolent boy! This slave of fashion!" Erik exclaimed.

   "Ignorant fool! This brave, young suitor!" Christine added.

   The pair burst into laughter, although Gustave didn't find it very amusing.

   "Okay, I'm off to go see Celeste," Gustave reported.

   The parents were still laughing.
   Gustave rolled his eyes. "I'm leaving."

   "Okay, have fun,"  Christine replied, still laughing.

   Gustave took his usual shortcut to the rooftop.

   "Gustave, you're here!" Celeste exclaimed.

   "Two months, Celeste. Only two months until Mother has the baby. I'm so not ready for this," Gustave said.

   Celeste laughed. "From the way you are speaking, one would think that you were the one giving birth."

   "This is not a laughing matter, Celeste."

   "Purge your thoughts of the baby just this once. Focus on me. All we ever talk about is the baby. Honestly, I'm a little tired of it, Gustave."

   "Well, maybe you could be a little bit more supportive," Gustave suggested angrily.

   "I have been so supportive!" Celeste exclaimed. "I have supported you throughout your mother's entire pregnancy. I have always been here whenever you needed to talk or whenever you needed somebody to listen to you. You're upset and I understand why, but you need to stop worrying about it, Gustave."
   "Maybe you're right," Gustave admitted.

   "Gustave, I'm worried about you. All you do nowadays is fret about the baby."

   "Most days that's all I have to do. It's boring here. Nothing exciting ever happens."

   "I think we can fix that. Here's what we can do," Celeste began. She explained her plan to Gustave.

   "That's brilliant!" Gustave laughed.

   "Yes, but we have to be careful. We could easily get caught doing this," Celeste reminded.

   "Have you brought this up to Lucas?"

   "No, not yet."

   "Then let's go tell him. Make haste! We should begin immediately."
