Baby Simba
After singing to his son, Danny sat the guitar down and held Jessica's belly in his hands. He kissed it and broke down. Usually the baby would kick and kick at his father's voice, but today was different. Today there was not a single movement.
"I love you, Simba. And I'm so sorry if I hurt you. I love you so much, baby boy!"
Jessica placed her hands on Danny's shoulders and silently cried. How could this possibly be happening to them?
Jessica packed so many of his little outfits. She didn't know if she would even be able go try these clothes on him but she brought them just in case.
On the way out she took a look at his Lion King themed room as tears rolled down her cheeks.
Opening the door they were met face to face with Sam and Autumn.
"Oh! Hi, guys!" Autumn gasps when she sees Danny holding Jessica's hospital bag and Baby Simba's diaper bag.
"He's coming! Oh my gosh, he's coming!" Autumn hugs her mother's belly tightly and kisses it over and over again.
Both Danny and Jessica totally forgot Sam was bringing Autumn back today.
"Oh baby.. um, I forgot daddy was bringing you right now. Sam, can we speak to you?"
"Jess, we need to go."
"Danny, hang on!" Jessica snaps.
".. You know what, I should just tell her.. she should know." Jessica looks at Danny with tears in her eyes.
"What's wrong?" Sam asks.
"Come in. Autumn, sit with me, baby."
Danny sat with Jessica and Autumn while Sam listened.
"Autumn.. I have some bad news, baby." Jessica said taking her hand.
"What's wrong? He's not coming today?" Autumn asked innocently.
"Autumn.. baby Simba.. he..he.... Danny." Jessica looked up to him. She couldn't tell her daughter her brother was gone.
"Autumn.. Simba.. he went to be with Jesus."
Sam's eyes went wide. He was in total shock. He too was completely heartbroken.
"What? But he's just a baby. How can he be in Heaven?"
"Some baby's are only meant to stay Angels.. and baby Simba will be an angel forever and ever." Jessica said messing with a piece of her hair.
She was shocked she was able to speak to Autumn without completely losing it.
Autumn cried. Sam cried, he was heartbroken for them. Losing a child had to be the hardest thing a person can go through.
Autumn kissed her mother's belly and spoke to her little brother.
"Baby boy.. sissy will always always love you. Every time I watch the lion king, I'll think of you, Simba. I know you'll never ever leave me. You'll forever be my Baby Simba." Autumn kisses her brother then hugs her mom.
"He's not kicking me like he always does, mommy."
"I know, baby.."
"I love you so much, mommy."
"I love you more." Jessica said, tears running down her cheeks.
"I want to see him, please let me see him. Don't let him go to Heaven without me getting to see him!"
"You can see him. I'll call daddy when he's born and he'll bring you over.
.. Is that okay, Sam?"
"Of course! Anything. Jess, I'm so sorry." Sam walks towards her.
Jessica looked at him and began to break. Sam wrapped his arms around her and Jessica sobbed.
Autumn balled up and covered her ears. She hated hearing her mother cry.
"Jess, we should go." Danny says looking towards Autumn.
Jessica nods her head and breaks away from Sam.
"Thank you.."
"WAIT!" Autumn shouts.
She runs to her room then quickly comes back.
"Here! I want you to give him this! It's my Simba stuffed animal."
Jessica smiled softly and took the toy.
"He's gonna love it, baby."
On the drive over Jessica held her belly. She wished so badly to feel her baby boy move around.
"I asked her, Danny. Yesterday I asked that bitch to do an ultrasound because I knew something was wrong.
She said no and now he's gone gone!" Anger was building up inside of her.
"If she would have just listened to me, they could have gotten him out and he would be in my arms right now! I'll never nurse him, I'll never see his precious eyes, I'll never hear his little cry or hear him say Mommy.. I'll never hear his laugh or teach him to talk.... Danny, my baby is gone!"
**
4 hours later.
Since arriving they have started Jessica's labor. Her mother has arrived to be there with her. So far Jessica has been very quiet. When she has a contraction she shows no emotion.
"I swear I felt him move!" Jessica says with wide eyes.
Danny looked at Dorothy and she sighed.
"Maybe he isn't gone. Maybe.. maybe he just.. just.." Jessica looks down and cries once again.
"Jessie." Her mother walks over and rubs her back.
"I know he didn't really move.. but I swear I felt it." Jessica says that last part in a tearful whisper.
Dorothy wrapped her arms around her daughter and let her cry it out.
**
One hour later.
"Do you need anything, baby?" Dorothy asked Jessica who was sitting down looking down at her big round belly. One hand placed on the perfectly round bump.
"No." Jessica answered not looking her mother in the eyes.
"Here, drink some water, babe." Danny tries handing her her cup.
"I said I don't want anything." She snaps.
"I'm sorry."
Jessica didn't respond. Instead, she poked into her belly, remembering times when Simba would go absolutely crazy in her tummy.
"He was always so wild.. he would've had me on my toes." She says with a tearful chuckle.
"I know he would've been super active.. a soccer player for sure.. a mama's boy.. a sweetheart... running crazy in public! I know my baby would have been perfect.. but I guess he already is. He was too perfect for this cruel world."
Jessica then laid back holding her belly. She closed her eyes and spoke to her son.
"I'm sorry I let this happy, baby boy. I'm sorry you never got the chance to experience life with us, precious boy.
I know where you're going is an incredible place.. but I'll miss you forever. I will think about your beautiful soul everyday for the rest of my life."
**
5 hours later.
Jessica wrapped her arms around Danny's neck as she leaned forward. The pain was becoming stronger and stronger. That plus grieving over her son made Jessica lose it completely.
She suddenly pushed Danny away and screamed with tears pouring down her face. "I WANT MY BABY! I WANT TO HOLD HIM AMD HAVE HIM WIGGLE IN MY ARMS! I'LL NEVER FEEL THAT! HE'll NEVER MOVE AGAIN!"
Dorothy was in tears and Danny tried comforting her.
"No don't touch me! Don't touch me!" Jessica screamed.
She held her belly as she swayed back and forth. "Mommy loves you, Simba. Mommy loves you, mommy loves you." Jessica repeated over and over again.
Suddenly Jessica got a horrible pain and an intense pressure.
"Ow! Oh no.. I'm not ready I don't want him to leave! I don't want him to leave!!" She screamed.
The nurse asked Jessica to lie down but she refused.
"No he can't leave me! I need him! I NEED HIM!" She sobs.
Dorothy walks over and wraps her arm around her daughter.
"Jessie, I know this is hard—"
"No! You don't know anything! Your babies came out screaming and crying! My baby is DEAD! He will be silent when he's born, and I can't do it. I can't deal with seeing his lifeless little body in my arms!"
Dorothy's heart broke for her daughter.
"I'm so sorry. You're right.. I don't know what it's like. But no matter how hard it is, this baby needs to be born. Have him.. hold him in your arms, take pictures of him, talk to him, sing to him! Do everything you can with him, Jessica!"
Jessica looks into her mother's eyes with tears pouring down her cheeks. She then hugs her mother tightly before laying down on the bed.
**
Jessica was ten centimeters dilated and it was time to begin pushing.
Danny and Dorothy held her legs back as Jessica started pushing.
"Good, good, keep going! Good, and deep breath in.. and push again!"
Jessica's face was scrunched up as she pushed with everything she had.
"Good job, baby." Danny rubbed her shoulder and kissed the top of her head.
Jessica closed her eyes and took deep breathes.
**
30 minuets later.
"Good! Here's his head, he's crowning." Her doctor said.
Danny looked down and his eyes went wide.
"Oh wow! Jess, he has hair!"
"Stop." Jessica cries.
She then stops pushing and breathes in and out.
"Ow." She whimpers.
"One more push and he'll be here, come on Jessica."
Jessica looked up to the ceiling in tears.
Yes the pain was bad, but she knew the pain of seeing her stillborn son was going to be so much worse. However, Jessica knew her baby needed to be born. She took a deep breath in and pushed as hard as she could.
She then suddenly felt a weight leave her body.
Jessica looked down and saw her baby boy.
She let out the loudest cry and reached out for her baby.
He was so perfect. He had dark hair, chubby cheeks, and big ol pouty lips.
"Oh look at him!" She sobs. "He's perfect! He so so perfect!"
Danny ran his hands over his son's head of dark hair as he cried.
"My baby boy.." He said.
Jessica looked up to Danny and he leaned down to hug her. Both sobbed loudly. Seeing him made it hurt a hundred times more.
"He's gone, Jessie. He's gone."
"I know. Why did this happen, Danny? What did I do?"
"You didn't do anything, Jessica! Don't blame yourself because you had no control!"
Jessica looked down to her son laying on her chest.
She gently caressed the back of her finger on his chubby cheek and said, "Open your eyes, baby. Open your eyes!" She raises her voice.
Dorothy kissed Jessica's forehead and held Simba's hand. "You're a cute little guy! He's the cutest little boy I've ever seen, you guys."
"Thank you.." Jessica said kissing his head over and over again.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, handsome." She cried softly.
"Jessica, I'm sorry to interrupt but, you need to deliver the placenta. Give me a little push."
Jessica nodded and did what he said.
A couple pushes and it was out.
Unfortunately immediately after it came out, Jessica began hemorrhaging.
Danny and Dorothy panicked when they saw the amount of blood that was coming out of her.
Jessica's uterus wasn't contracting on it's own so one nurse immediately started pressing on Jessica's stomach.
Jessica looked up to Danny, their eyes widening with fear.
"Take him!" Jessica hands the baby to Danny.
Fear immediately washed over Jessica's body.
She could possibly go right here, right now on this bed. She then looked to the side at her little boy in Danny's arms. He was lifeless.
Suddenly she felt as though everything was moving in slow motion. Then, she felt very at peace. She wanted to go. She wanted to be with her baby.
Jessica took the nurse her the wrist and looked her in the eyes.
"It's okay." She said. "Let me go. I want to be with my baby. Please let me go."
Danny and Dorothy quickly stopped her.
"Jessica, stop that! You're going to be fine!" Dorothy said.
"My baby boy needs me. I don't want to be here!"
"Yes you do, you still have Autumn!" Danny says.
"She has Sam.. Baby Simba has no one. I need to be with him. PLEASE! Let me go!" Jessica begged.
