5. It's you

Khaos’s P.O.V

"Sir, Ms. Sloan wants to talk to you," Evander informs me, and I groan in frustration.

I just owe one favor to that woman, and she has been pestering me about it for a long time, and now I need to put an end to these senseless articles and pictures; I'm already done with them.

"Put her on the line," I tell him.

"Khaos, finally you're willing to talk to me." Damn this annoying woman.

"Cut to chase." I answer, tapping my fingers on the table.

"I want you to attend a gala with me," she answers finally, and I groan inwardly.

"Mail the details to Evander," and with that, I hang up. Just this last thing, and I don't have to see her ever again.

"Sir," Calix calls me, bursting inside my office, and my eyes dart up.

"What is it?" I ask him, standing up.

"Sir Xeria ma'am went to see a therapist, but she didn't actually take the session, and then afterwards she left with Jake," he informs me, and I clench my jaw on hearing that idiot's name.

I approach the glass windows and take in the view of the city. My lovely Beryl, how much has she had to go through because of my idiocy?

She asked me to walk out of her life, and I complied at that time because I didn't want to make things worse, but that doesn't mean in any sense that I will ever let go of her.

Just one step will do: if she moves even an inch toward me, I'll throw away everything to make her mine, and this time I'll smash through the door that has always stood between us, and this time I will smash that door into pieces that always separate us.

Just one step, my Beryl, and we will be together again.

The gala is annoying as usual, and so is my company. Just a few more hours, and I will be out of here.

As I'm talking with the people, I feel a weird sensation in my gut, and I turn around to see what this feeling is.

And I see her standing in front of me—my Beryl, my love, my other half.

She is as beautiful as always.

She is looking at me; I can't believe my eyes; she is looking for me, and then I see the man next to her, who whispers something in her ear.

I know him; he's her friend. After the incident with Ivan, I researched briefly about her so that I wouldn't repeat the same mistake again.

But before I can do anything, that annoying woman drags me away.

"The next time you touch me, I will rip your arm apart." I warn her, and her eyes widen and she shrinks back.

"I think we should go back," she whispers, averting her gaze, making me sigh.

"Go back alone; I have something left to do," I inform her, all ready to see my Beryl.

'But," she mutters.

"Stop testing my patience; leave now." I grit my teeth as I say, and she hurriedly leaves. My phone begins to ring as I walk inside.

"What is it, Calix?" I ask him hurriedly.

"Sir, you need to see this; please check your inbox," he informs me, and I hang up the call only to be disgusted by the news.

Who in the world did this?

Beryl, where is she?

I look around and see her walking out from the other side. I hurriedly go after her, and I see her slump down in a corner and see her blaming herself again.

Nothing pains me more than seeing her in pain. I bend down in front of her.

"I can't take this anymore," she mutters.

"You don't have to be Beryl," I tell her, and she looks up with her beautiful emerald eyes, which were red and glistening, and without saying anything further, she leaps into my embrace.

"Khaos, I didn't do that; they're lying," she begins to explain herself, and I comfort her by drawing circles on her back as she buries her face in her chest. This moment is everything; she is in my arms, safe and secure.

"Look at me," I ask her, and she looks up to me without any hesitation, and my gaze softens.

I can see how tired she is; beneath that makeup lie tired eyes from countless sleepless nights.

I begin to close the distance between me and her, but before I can go any further, she pulls away and bolts, leaving me perplexed.

I follow behind her as she rushes away, and I catch her the moment she is about to fall.

"What did you do this time?" Grunge growls as I hold her close to me and pick her up in my arms.

"Let's take her back first," I reply, dismissing the waves of hostility from the man in front of me.

"She is burning up; take her to the hospital," he continues, trailing closely behind me.

"Stay with her; I will complete the formalities, and don't you dare upset her." He gives me a kind of warning before he rushes away.

I see Beryl lying down on the bed. I walk up to her and remove her gloves, and the moment I remove the glove from her left hand, I see a chain around her wrist, the same chain, and a ring on it.

The wedding ring, and I feel a wave of emotion burst inside of me. I press my hand against my chest and feel the ring on the chain around my neck.

She hasn't given up on me entirely.

After that, the doctors attended to her. Again, it was excessive fatigue and the migraine made it worse, but this time with insomnia and anxiety.

She was going to see the therapist, which makes it pretty evident that she is somewhat aware of her situation, but then she avoided getting herself diagnosed.

And this stupid news didn't help anything either. I have to do something to free Beryl from this misery.

"Calix," I answer, picking up the call.

"Sir, there's an emergency here. Please come back," he answers, and I sigh, one after another.

"Have Evander see this, and you will find out who is behind this news," I inform him, glancing at Beryl, who is, for the time being, sleeping soundly.

"I will take care of that, but sir, we need you here," he answers, and I hang up on him.

"Grunge, I have to leave for the time being, but please let me know of her condition when she wakes up," I inform him, and he scowls right away.

"Will see." he answers, glancing at Beryl.

"I'll get going now." I sigh in defeat because there's no point in arguing with this man. I take one last look at Beryl and then leave; soon she will be back with me by my side.
