5 - Attention

<JC Activity Center>

Jeonghan inhaled a deep breath while blankly staring at the steering wheel.

He had to talk to Seungcheol, thanks him for his daughter's progress in art.

A little thing, wasn't it?

It wasn't.

But again, who was he to say no to Jiah? So here he was, with a bouquet and chocolates for him as promised to her daughter.

Jiah patted her bagpack, "Let's go dad!"

Jeonghan forced a smile as he got out of the car and then helped Jiah.

As they got into the academy, Jiah rushed to her place as Jeonghan closely followed.

"Cheol~~" Jiah ran into the idol's arms.

"Hello princess, how are you?" Seungcheol chuckled.

"I'm good." Jiah grinned, "Look, I brought dad today."

Jeonghan stepped in as both the males shared an awkward eye contact.

"I'll go and place my work in the gallery, okay?" Jiah informed as she left.

Jeonghan stepped forward as he put forward the bouquet and chocolates, "Thankyou for helping Jiah in her hobby."

Seungcheol averted his gaze, "No need for this."

"Jiah wanted me to hand it to you-"

"Of course, there's no doubt in that." Seungcheol chuckled bitterly, "Because there's no way Dr. Yoon Jeonghan will even breath near me."

Jeonghan remained silent, "Accept this, for the sake of, Jiah."

"Put it here." Seungcheol pointed at the empty table.

Jeonghan nodded as he complied, "Thanks."

"I've been friends with Jiah for more than three months and her father never showed up at the academy." Seungcheol mocked, "But as soon as he saw me here, he visits very often. Coincidence, Dr. Yoon?"

Jeonghan looked away as he paused, "I came here because Jiah wanted me to."

"Ah yes." Seungcheol grinned, "Excusing your own actions by using other people is not new for you, is it?"

"Stop being pathetic, Seungcheol." Jeonghan muttered.

"It's much better than being an attention seeker like you." Seungcheol retorted, "Don't think I'm the same person you had earlier fooled in the name of love."

"Have a nice day, Mr. Choi." Jeonghan bowed slightly, "When Jiah will come back, tell her that I left."

He walked away, leaving Seungcheol hanging yet again. Not that he was expecting anything better from Jeonghan.

"I'm hungry." Jiah pouted while painting.

"I see." Seungcheol chuckled, "What do you want to eat?"

"Anything." Jiah stated, "I haven't eaten anything since morning."

"Why?" Seungcheol's eyes widened.

"Didn't feel like it." Jiah shrugged, "Dad gave me breakfast but I sneaked it away and missed lunch in my school too."

"That's not a good job you did there." Seungcheol gentle rebuked her, "Let's go and feed you first."

"Ye- LOOK!" Jiah pointed at the garden outside the window, "Butterflies." She ran out in the bright sunlight and scorching heat as she began to chase the butterflies to simply look at them.

Seungcheol closely followed her out and watched her play.

But soon enough, the smile on Jiah's face began to fade as she coughed slightly and sweat formed on her forehead.

"Jiah?" Seungcheol walked to her and crouched down in front of her.

"Cheol~~" Jiah weakly muttered after which her eyes got shut and she fainted.

Seungcheol's eyes widened as the girl's forehead hung loosely on his shoulder, "Jiah-? Baby? Jiah?!"

But no matter how much he tried, she didn't wake up. He quickly lifted the little girl in his arms and rushed to the hospital.

He made a call while driving, "Hello? Vernon? Yeah can you show up at the Rose Quartz Medical Centre? Yeah, now. Thanks! Yeah, okay."

He hung up the call as he began to get restless. Somewhere he could connect the dots.

Jiah didn't eat anything since morning, had spent a hectic day in school then at academy and then went on to play in sunlight.

Maybe that's why she fainted.

But it didn't make him worry any less.

He parked the car as he reached the hospital, lifting Jiah into his arms again as he rushed in.

A medic assistant came to attend him, "What happened, sir- oh- JIAH?"

"You know her?" Seungcheol asked.

"Of course, who doesn't?" He quickly arranged a bed to take Jiah into a room to admit her.

"Call Dr. Boo quickly." The assistant ordered as Jiah was being taken away while Seungcheol followed.

And soon enough, he could see a lead doctor on his way to the room, he was probably the Dr. Boo who was mentioned earlier.

He was being followed by an ample amount of nurses. Seungcheol scrunched his brows slightly at the overwhelming scene getting unfolded in front of him.

The medic who had assisted him earlier was standing beside him.

Seungcheol turned his head towards him, "How do you know her?"

"Almost everyone in the hospital knows her, as Dr. Yoon's dear daughter. We all know how protective he is over her and how much he loves her.

He's off duty currently or god knows how he would have reacted to all this. Please contact him, sir." He bowed and left.

Before Seungcheol could process the information, Vernon came to him, "What happened hyung? Hospital?"

Seungcheol nodded slowly as he began to explain everything to him.

"Can you do a favour?" Seungcheol asked, "Call Jeonghan."

Vernon paused for a moment but he knew the situation made it an obligation, "Alright."

"Don't tell him the truth, just convince him to come here quickly." Seungcheol added.

"Okay." Vernon inhaled a deep breath after which he pulled out his phone.

He scrolled through the depth of his contacts and finally found that one number which wasn't supposed to be so abandoned.

He gulped as he made the call which was picked up, "Hello? Dr. Yoon?"

"H-hansol?"

Vernon's breath hitched as the other side seemed to recognise him. He didn't expect it all. He never thought that Jeonghan would ever have his number still saved.

"Hello? Hello?!"

"Uh- yes. Hyu- umm Dr. Yoon, can you come to Rose Quartz Medical Centre, as fast as possible?"

"As fast- is it an emergency? What happened? What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Please come fast without any questions. I'll text you the floor, room number and all."

"Alright I'll be there."

Vernon hung up the call as exhaled a deep breath, he didn't know he was holding.

Soon enough, the lead doctor came out of the room where Jiah was admitted.

He approached the two idols, "Hello. I'm Dr. Boo Seungkwan, senior paediatrician here.

Jiah is fine now. She fainted because of dehydration and weakness. Thanks for bringing her here quickly, you are?"

Seungcheol and Vernon looked at each other for a moment.

Before they could introduce, Seungkwan continued, "I mean I know you both are famous idols, but how are you related to her. I've never seen Jeonghan hyung with you."

"Uh- I'm enrolled in the same academy as her and we're good friends." Seungcheol stated, "She fainted in front of me."

Meanwhile, Vernon was lost in the eyes of the doctor standing in front of him.

He could feel an unexplainable pull towards him and he couldn't really shrug it off.

"He came here because I called him." Seungcheol nudged the younger.

"Yeah- yeah." Vernon scratched the back of his neck.

Seungkwan smiled slightly before turning to Seungcheol again, "Have you contacted Jeonghan hyung?"

"Yeah, he's on his way." Seungcheol nodded, "We didn't tell him about Jiah though."

"You did great." Seungkwan applauded, "Okay then, I'll go. She'll be awake within an hour,. please wait outside till then."

He interlocked his gaze with Vernon for one last time after which he left.

Vernon stood still, trying to figure out what was this strange feeling in his chest.

"Mr. Chwe?!" Seungcheol shook him for the nth time, "Calm down there."

"Oh- yes-" Before Vernon could form a proper sentence, Jeonghan arrived, his eyes wide as he tried to process the presence of the two males.

"W-what happened?" Jeonghan managed to ask.

Seungcheol paused, looking at the younger as he couldn't figure out how to tell him the truth.

"Jiah-" Seungcheol choked out, "She fainted. But but but, she's alright now and-"

"JIAH WHAT?" Jeonghan gasped loudly.

His heart hammered in his chest as he clutched it tightly. He quickly walked towards the door of the room she was supposedly admitted to.

Seungcheol immediately gripped his hand, "Dr. Boo, who seemed to be your mutual, asked to stay out before she wakes up."

"I can go." Jeonghan protested, "I'm her father and a doctor too."

"I know you're a doctor but you're more of a father right now, you're panicking yourself, you can't go in."

"Stop, let me go!"

Seungcheol pulled him back, towards the chairs, "Please sit and wait. I request you, it's for Jiah's sake, alright?"

Jeonghan clutched his chest tightly as he looked up at the older while sitting down.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he gulped visibly, "How- how did this happen?"

"Dehydration and weakness." Seungcheol muttered, "She said that she didn't eat anything all day today, sneaking the food you gave her and all.

I was taking to treat her but that's when all this happened."

Jeonghan sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair, "And Seungkwan? What did he say?"

"She's fine." Seungcheol replied, "You can see her after she wakes up, within an hour."

Jeonghan looked down, trying to wipe his tears, "Jiah-" He muttered to himself, "Please be fine, my life."
-

Jeonghan was at another hospital to do a surgery which had went well.

"Thankyou Dr. Yoon, the surgery went well because of you." Yeosang stated.

"It's okay Dr. Kang" Jeonghan chuckled.

It was when a lady who seemed to be in her early 30s, showed up.

She was Cho Miyeon, senior gynaecologist in that hospital and was good friends with Jeonghan.

"Oh hello Dr. Yoon, nice to see you here." Miyeon chuckled, "And congratulations!!"

"Congratulations?" Jeonghan scrunched his brows.

"Yeah, you're going to be a father." Miyeon smiled, "I just gave her the reports."

Jeonghan was stunned. Father what? Has he even met his so called wife, Taeri within the past few months? And even if he did, has he ever even touched her?

"Seems like you don't know." Yeosang grinned, "Dr. Cho, you ruined Mrs. Yoon's surprise for her husband."

"Oh I'm so sorry." Miyeon felt bad.

"It's okay Dr. Cho, I'll pretend to be surprised when she'll tell me." Jeonghan nodded.

"Oh you're a great husband." Miyeon admired.

"Okay, I'll have to go." Jeonghan hurried, "I should see her as soon as possible."

He decided to visit Taeri. But while walking towards his car in the parking lot, he saw Taeri and Jaejun in front of Jaejun's car.

Jeon Jaejun, Taeri's boyfriend, yeah.

"What do we do Jaejun? I don't want to be a mother." Taeri panicked.

Anger rushed through Jeonghan's veins. It was true that they didn't really care about their marriage. But Jeonghan at least deserved to know.

"Abort this child Taeri, we will plan one later." Jaejun convinced.

Jeonghan immediately meddled between them and slapped Jaejun. He grabbed his collars, "If you can't bear a child then why can't you make sure that this doesn't happen? But no, you both are just lust driven animals right?"

"Jeonghan-" Taeri stared at him in horror.

"Yes I know everything. Your doctor, Dr. Cho Miyeon is my friend." Jeonghan turned towards her, "You're carrying a baby? And you just want to abort it?"

"I don't want to, I'm obliged to." Taeri cried, "I don't want to kill a developing life but I don't want to be a mother either. This is not possible for me. Who will take care of this child? WHO?"

Jeonghan inhaled a deep breath, "I will."

"Hello? Dr. Yoon? You're not going to have a child with Taeri." Jaejun intervened, "She's your wife, just for show. I see what you're doing here. You'll take the child and then Taeri too."

Jeonghan slapped him again, "Bold of you to assume that I'll let you or your girlfriend lay a single hand over this baby after it's born. And if I would have really wanted Taeri in my life, trust me Mr. Jeon, you wouldn't have been alive."

He turned towards the woman, "Just give birth to the baby. I'll pay you whatever amount you wish to. I'll raise the child on my own. The day you give birth to this child, it would be the last day we'll see each other."

"Last?" Taeri asked.

"I hope you're ready for a divorce, Taeri." Jeonghan stated, "We'll get one, without telling our parents or anyone. And yeah, the child's custody will entirely be mine."

"Really?" Jaejun chuckled.

Jeonghan glared at him after which he turned to Taeri, "I'll bring you a contract soon."
-

And that was what exactly happened. Taeri was desperate for money and luxuries and she got it all from Jeonghan because of that baby.

Jeonghan raised his daughter alone, who wasn't even his own blood but he loved her much more than the people who were related to her by blood.

Taeri tried to see Jiah several times and she did. Jiah knew she had a mother and had met her several times.

But she was Jeonghan's daughter after all. He had never told her about her mother's actual life but had told her several sweet lies to keep her shut about Taeri.

The door of the room opened as a nurse came out, "She woke up. You all can see her. Ah- greetings, Dr. Yoon."

Without a word, Jeonghan rushed into the room followed by Seungcheol and Vernon.

Jeonghan knelt down beside his daughter's bed and kissed her forehead as tears trailed down his eyes.

"My baby." Jeonghan muttered while holding her hands, "Are you fine?"

"I'm fine dad. Really." Jiah assured with a faint smile.

"What had dad told you?" Jeonghan looked at her, "If you get hurt even ny the slightest, then what will happen to dad? Who does dad have except for you?"

Wife? Family? - Seungcheol thought. He exchanged glances with Vernon as both of them found something odd in the situation.

"Where's her mom?" Vernon mumbled to the older, "He should have called her too right?"

Seungcheol frowned, "You're right."

Jeonghan pressed kisses on her palms and cheeks, "You're the only one I have Jiah, you know that, right ?

If you risk your health then it means you're risking my health, got it?"

"Sorry dad, I'll eat nicely from now on." Jiah muttered.

"Don't be sorry baby, just take good care okay?" Jeonghan held her palm tightly, "Dad can't see you sick okay?"

"I know." Jiah nodded, "Oh? Cheol? And-"

"Vernon." He introduced himself, "Seungcheol hyung's friend."

Jiah smiled, "I'm Yoon Jiah."

"Nice to meet you little one." Vernon chuckled.

"If it's all good here, may I leave hyung?" Vernon slowly asked Seungcheol.

"Yeah yeah you have schedules, I know. Take care." Seungcheol nodded as the younger left.

Seungcheol walked closer and crouched down on the other side of the bed.

"Cheol!" Jiah smiled.

"Are you okay?" Seungcheol gently asked.

"Yes." Jiah nodded, "And thankyou for bringing me here."

"No need." Seungcheol patted her forehead once again after which he stood up, "I'll- I'll leave."

"No!" Jiah protested, "Stay with us today."

Jeonghan's eyes widened as he looked up at and Seungcheol and then back to Jiah, "Uh- baby, he's busy, okay?"

"How do you know?" Jiah asked, "Cheol are you really busy? Don't lie!"

Seungcheol paused, a simple lie not coming out of his mouth.

"See he's not." Jiah concluded.

"Baby we're going home, not staying at the hospital." Jeonghan tried to convince her.

"Yeah so he can come to our home." Jiah pouted, "I want Cheol to stay with us today, please! Dad please, pretty please!"

"Okay- okay stop." Jeonghan gulped, "Uh- Mr. Choi, can you- umm-"

"I- will." Seungcheol mumbled out.

"Thanks." Jeonghan muttered.

Seungcheol nodded, staring at the younger intently.

After everything happened, he couldn't understand that Jiah's mom wasn't brought up even in conversation.

Why was that?

Where was she when her child was in the hospital?

Why did Jeonghan not call here even once?

Why not even Jiah asked for her mom?

Why...?

A/n : Guys, I'll fix the uploading schedule really really soon, dw!!

Anyways take care everyone!
