Chapter 5. 'Love is only one book away'
'May I borrow your phone?'
Thorin looks up from his paper work. He still needs to do a lot before he has to go to the office tomorrow. Slowly, he loweres his glasses and looks at Dwalin.
The latter stands in front of him with his hand outstretched. Quite impatiently if he was honest with himself.
'What do you need it for?' he asks, taking his glasses of completely.
Dwalin huffs in annoyance. 'Just give me that damned thing. I will return it to you within a minute' he growls.
Thorin raises an eyebrow. 'Quite impressive. Why can't you use your own phone?'
'Since when did you get so nosy?' Dwalin counters.
Still not impressed with how his boyfriend is acting, Thorin get's his phone out of his pocket. 'Don't do anything stupid' he says as he lays his phone in Dwalin's hand.
'You know me' Dwalin says, walking out of the room.
'That is the reason why I warned you' Thorin mutters.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Tell me again, why are you not coming with me?
- Because I am at the library
- Let me repeat that. Why are you not coming with me?
- Katie, I am serious. I need to surround myself with books right now...
- I don't understand. What happened that night?
You put your phone down for a moment. Frankly, you weren't in the mood for this. That night had happened two days ago and you couldn't forget it.
You needed to see them again. Just to talk to them... Was it just you or had they really called you theirs? Why would they say that to you when they didn't feel at least something for you? But you knew that it was just all in your head.
- Please, go out with me right now. I can get some cute dudes to come with us :)
You rolled your eyes.
- No thank you
- Alright! I am sending one in!
- Don't you dare doing that! Are you here? Katie please me you are not here :S
A stack of books landed loudly on the table. Your own book only lay a few inches away.
You let out a little squeek, placing your hand on your heart to calm it down. 'Excuse me but you shouldn't be so loud in a library' you said in a stern voice, pushing your chair forwards.
The chair to your left was being pulled back. Someone sat down.
'I am sorry lass. I have never been here before. But I though I could find you here.'
You looked up in shock to find Dwalin sitting next to you.
He looked at you like that night had never happened. Like you had met each other on a beach or something.
'What are you doing here?' you asked in surprise.
Dwalin casually opened the first book on his pile. 'I just told you. I thought that this was the right place to start my search for you' he explained.
Your mouth opened up a little as you stared at him in shock.
He looked up at you and smiled. His hand went up and carefully lifted your chin back up. 'Even though I quite like that image, we can't do it here.' He winked at you.
Your were positively blushing right now. 'Don't say that in here' you hissed.
Dwalin chuckled. 'Relax. I just came here to ask you about these books.' He pointed at the pile in front of him. There were at least twenty titles on there.
'What about them?' you asked, not sure what he wanted with them. Your eyes wandered over the covers, reading all the titles. It were all books that were pretty famous; 'A christmas carol', 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' and, your favourite, 'Ink heart', and other titles.
Without thinking about it, your hand went to the pile to feel the old covers.
Dwalin watched your movements with interest. It had definitely been a wise choice to come here.
'I want you to tell me what they are about. And why you like them' he explained.
Currently, you were admiring the old version of 'A christmas carol'. 'Why?' you asked, totally focused on the book in front of you.
He put his head on his hands, watching you as your face started to shine. 'I want to know why you love these titles' he said in a soft voice. He could stare at you like this for hours on end.
When you looked at him to ask him the same question again, you noticed that his face had turned sour. He wasn't looking at you anymore.
As you followed his eyes, you could see a well-trained boy coming your way. His hair was obviously kept in place using a lot of hairgel. Definitely not your type.
You were about to return to your conversation with Dwalin went it became clear to you that the boy was heading your way.
Oh....
You buried your head in your hands. The boy Katie would send.
'Who is that?' Dwalin growled, noticing your reaction.
'I just want to go out of here' you said, ready to jump off and leave this crazy place. Since when had the library turned into a boy magnet?
Dwalin put a comforting hand on your leg. It calmed you down.
'Did that boy hurt you?' he asked. It was clear in his voice that there was going to be a fight if we had.
You shook your head.
'Hello, my beautiful lady. Will you come outside with me?' the boy asked. He grinned widely as he stood there in front of you. His teeth were too white and his attitude too slick. Thank God Dwalin was here with you...
'Pardon me?' Dwalin asked, getting up from his chair.
The boy swallowed. 'I-I...'
Apparently it was a bit intimadating when someone was a few inches taller then you.
'I thought I heard you say 'my beautiful lady', just now. That can't be correct since she is mine.' He sounded way too possessive if you thought about your history together.
But you couldn't find it in yourself to care.
You looked from the boy to the man beside you, and back.
'You can tell Katie that I am not coming with you' you said sweetly. You were enjoying this way too much for sure.
The boy nodded frantically, almost running out of the library.
Dwalin stared at his back until he had finally gone out of his sight. He sat back down with a loud thud.
'Who is he?' he asked, his voice still gruff.
You shrugged. 'Some boy that Katie send in. She wanted to go to a club. I told her no. And that's where he came in' you explained. You packed your books together. You were done with the library for one day.
'Where are you going?' Dwalin asked. You could hear the concern in his voice.
'I don't know, the last two days have been rough on me and I just-' You couldn't finish your sentence.
Dwalin grabbed your hands.
You looked up to meet his eyes. There was definitely worry in there. But why?
'Why? Did something happen?' he asked.
You let out a tired laugh. 'Yes, with that thing and all... It... It is just probably all in my head' you said. You weren't going to have this conversation in the library. He would surely think you were crazy.
Of course you wouldn't get away with it that easily.
Dwalin frowned. 'What is in your head?'
You sighed. 'That thing? From two nights ago? I just thought that there was... more.' You looked down at your feet, expecting him to let go of your hands, laugh or simply stare blankly at you.
You hadn't expected the comfortable arm that settled itself around your shoulders.
Dwalin grabbed the books from the table, guiding you towards the entrance. 'Let me get a stamp on these books before I buy you a drink' he said.
Did you hear that right? You were going for a what now?
Oh no. You were going to have 'a conversation about your feelings'. You honestly didn't need him to tell you that it was just you. Because you knew that already.
'I am fine, we don't need to-'
He put up a hand to stop you from going on. 'I have a few things I want to say of my own. It is quite clear you don't want to discuss it in here so we are going somewhere else to talk.'
Together you had reached the check-out. Dwalin handed his books and his card to the woman behind the counter. He send you a cheeky wink as he did so.
'I seriously can't believe you.'
You both turned around after hearing that familiar voice. Why was Thorin here too?
They were boyfriends, you knew that, but still...
'Hey love' Dwalin greeted him with a smile.
Thorin glared at him. 'A word. Now.' He turned on his heels
'Can you get my books? I am right back' Dwalin promised, following Thorin back into the library.
You were left alone.
The woman smiled sweetly at you as she handed the books to you. She had been kind enough to put the books in a plastic bag. 'Good luck with them' she said in a warm voice.
You smiled unsure, turning around as fast as you could. It felt weird to wait here for your... how could you call them? Lovers wasn't the right term here... Your one-night-standees? No... wrong...
Maybe Thorin was mad because Dwalin had met with you behind his back? Honestly, you couldn't blame him.
~ Back, behind a book shelf ~
Thorin was glaring at him with his arms crossed. It was pretty bad when he wasn't yelling at him.
'What?'
'I can't believe you used the tracking device on my phone to locate her' Thorin hissed angrily.
Dwalin shuffled his left feet helplessly. 'Come on, don't tell me that the same thought hadn't crossed your mind' he said in a normal tone.
Thorin put his fingers between his eyes. 'There is a difference between thinking about it and acting on the thought and thinking about it and deciding it is a ridiculous thing to do.'
'Anyhoo. I found her and we're going to get a drink. Are you coming with us?' Dwalin asked happily.
His boyfriend looked up at him with a furious glare. 'Don't change the subject on me when you crossed a line!'
'(Y/N)! We are coming. Thorin is coming too!' Dwalin announced to you.
You smiled sweetly in reply.
Thorin hit Dwalin on the back of his head. Dwalin rubbed the hurt spot. 'What did you do that for?' he asked.
'Because you are an idiot' Thorin said, leading the way back to you.
'An idiot who brought our lass back to us' Dwalin said.
Thorin had to give him that. He did bring their lass back.
