Chapter 12: First year's true abilities: The freak duo~

As soon I felt the ball connect with my palm, I immediately felt alive at the moment. At last I can finally show them my passion towards volleyball and proving the others that my height isnt going to stop me from being the very best.

When I got back to the ground, I carefully opened my eyes and saw Fluttershy and her team were shocked,  making me grin victoriously.

Yeah I spiked the ball sometimes during the match but I haven't felt this excited.. My team on the other hand was shocked like the others.

"YEAH!" Me and Applejack yelled in joy, making my team join in too. Sunset then ran up to me and messed with my hair while the other upperclassmen started to compliment me.

R: "That was super fast darling!"

Pp: "I wish I have speed like yours!"

Ts: "And that my Rainbow haired friend is a quick attack, but you actually stole the ball from Sunset."

Rd: "Oh.. Im sorry captain!"

Ss: "Its okay Dash! Your fit to be the next Ace after all." The captain replied, tapping my shoulders to make me not guilty about it.

As my team continued to talk about what happened, I saw Applejack weakly smiling at the distance so I ran up to her and raised my hand for a high five.

Rd: "Thanks for the toss cowgirl!" I happily cheered with a huge smile.

Aj then smiled back and gave me a strong painful high five which made me gasp in pain.

Aj: "You can do better than that shrimp." She started with a grin. " But dont steal the freaking ball from the Ace okay? I was aiming at Sunset.. Not you. " She lastly whispered.

Rd: "At least we got a point! You should be happy." I lastly said before running to my middle blocker position.

But Fluttershy was giving me the same weird look from before at the other side of the net.

Rd: "Hey.. Shy, are you okay?"

Fs: "Im fine Rainbow, but that was one freakish quick attack back there." She explained with a smile.

Rd: "Yeah cool right? I could have not done it without Applejack."

Fs: "I thought you two fought back at the tournament last year? And its quite clear that she still hates you especially that you threw the ball at the back of her head."

Rd: "Eh.. I still hate her too Flutters but, coach said everybody in my side are allies so.. We cant fight no more."

Fs: "Oh.. Well please be car-"

Fluttershy was interrupted when we heard the whistle blew to continue the match.

Rd: "We'll talk later Shy." I lastly said, getting into my stance same with the others.

Twilight then went at the back to serve the ball with perfect execution, as usual. As soon the ball flew to the other side of the court, the other team received it tossing the ball to Gilda.

I then remembered the guess blocking Twilight was talking about earlier, so I thought that Gilda will spike the ball so I jumped vertically to block her attack.

But when I noticed that her hand was facing the other side, I realized it was a dump.

Gilda immediately changed her posture and flicked her hand to make the ball fall beside me. All I can do at the time is watch the ball fall beside me cause I was too slow to react.

I growled in slight anger when I watched the ball dropped to the ground, making Flash score another point for the other team.

It was clear that were loosing this first set cause Saint's academy got to the 20's first. But my team isnt giving up yet so we continued to play the match for minutes.

Finally.. We lost the first set. Of course both coaches demanded a 10 minute break for both teams.

While coach Armor discuss the next game plan for the second set, I kept feeling this heavy thing on my chest. I guess it was guilt cause our opponents scored tons of points because I was too reckless during the first game.

But Applejack is taking our first defeat way too much, her eyes were angered like last time and she wont even talk nor reply to anybody during the break.

Sa: "Alright girls, we may loose the first set but there is still another game so we can make the score a tie, but if they take the second set, the game is over. So here's the plan-"

Ts: "But their captain is so hardcore.." Twilight interrupted.

Rd: "I know, Gilda's been competitive now because Im on the other team."

Sa: "Enough about that! Pinkie, keep on doing does saves.. Especially when Sunset's attack are getting block okay?"

Pp: "Okie dokie lokie!"

Sa: "Right.. Twilight, keep on doing your guess blocking thing while Rarity will be used as a decoy for our Ace to strike an attack.'

R: "A decoy? Excuse me I dint just ate a box of protein bars for the last two months just to be a decoy!"

Ts: "Oh that's why you lost weight.."

Pp: "Yeah because you went on a ice cream spree when you dramatically cried all day about our defeat on Nationa-"

R: "The past is in the past Pinkie! No need to remind everyone that." Rarity immediately yelled to stop Pinkie pie from talking.

Sa: "Can you all please focus?! Ahem, anyways, Appleja- " Shining armor stoped talking when she saw Applejack seating alone in the distance.

Sa: "Can someone please get the cowgirl."

Rd: "I'll do it."

I then took deep breath before walking up to our setter and seating right beside her.

Rd: "Hey you freaking giraffe, why so sad?"

Aj: "Screw you shrimp."

Rd: "Screw you too but you need to go with our team so we can listen to our coach's plan.

Aj: "I dont care.. We'll loose anyways." She answered with a broken voice which affected me for some reason..

Rd: "Hey.. Come on we haven't lost the war yet. We just need to get this first set so we can make a tie.."

Aj: "So?"

Rd: "Oh Celestia your so stubborn.. Just get up, I'll treat you some ice cream when we win okay?" I said, standing up and offering me hand to help her get back to her feet.

But the cowgirl slapped my hand away before standing up and facing me with a serious look.

Aj: "I dont need you to make me happy. The first game, second game, the playoffs, the Nationals.. Im going to win them all without your help. Lets just get this over with ." She lastly replied in anger, returning with the rest of my team.

Rd: "You goddamn giraffe.. Why do you make me feel so weak?" I thought to myself in slight pain.

I just sighed and returned to the bench to gather up with the team so Shining armor can continue discussing his plan for the second set

Sa: "Okay! Now that you two are finally here, I need you to do the freak duo attack a while ago."

Rd: "Wait, wait.. Freak duo?"

Sa: "Yeah that's the title I gave to you and the cowgirl."

Aj: "So the freak duo with the freakish quick attack is now CHS's weapon? Great.."

Sa: "Uh.. Kinda? I still dont know but its the attack I know that will get us to Nationals."

Aj: "Seriously? I need to toss the ball to this Rainbow haired dwarf?"

Rd: "Wanna fight cowgirl?"

Aj: "Oh your so on!"

Sa: "For Celestia's sake can you stop fighting just for once?!" Our coach yelled in anger, making me and Applejack stopped fighting.

Ss: "You two really need chill out.".

Ts: "Now that the two first year's are quiet, tell us the rest of your plans Coach before the two start another riot."

Sa: "Right, we will have a training session tomorrow after class so after you girls are dismissed from your classes, change into your spare clothes and meet me here okay?

"yes coach!" We all agreed.

After a few minutes passed, Flash blew his whistle to announce that the 10 minute break was now over and its time to resume the game.

But instead of focusing on the game at hand, I kept thinking of Applejack. Why is she so confusing? Why is she suddenly mad at me? And why am I concern for her?! Its not that I like her or something..

"RAINBOW!"

I was brought back to reality as soon I heard my name being yelled, so Immediately looked up and saw the ball coming towards my face.

And yet again, I was too slow to react so the ball freely slammed on my face which leads me to gasp in shock and tumble backwards.

Ss:"Rainbow you okay?!" The captain asked, saving the ball from dropping outside.

Rd: "Yes Im sorry!" I yelled back, getting back to my feet in a hurry.

Aj: "Quit spacing out dumbass!"

Rd: "I said im sorry geez!"

R: "Chance ball!" Rarity yelled before passing the ball to our idiotic setter.

I felt my instincts all over my body, telling me to run beside Applejack and do the quick attack from a while ago.

A part of me wants to do the freakish quick but another part of me dont want to disappoint Applejack.. Danm why am I feeling so weak now?!

I just sighed in disappointment when I realized that our captain already spiked the ball that Aj tossed, making us take the first point for the second set.

I was first confused when Aj immediately looked at me with a confused yet.. Worried look but I immediately looked away, thinking that she wants to scold at me again.

As the game continues, I lost my excitement and momentum as I ignore all of Aj's tosses and giving them to the other spikers.

Even though I really wanted to touch and spike the ball so bad, I kept fighting it so I just received the balls instead of chasing after them for me to spike.

When I realized that the score was 15 Saint's academy and 11 CHS, my charisma just got even low, making me to be indisposed which made my team real worried.

This all happened because of Applejack, she suddenly made me weak all of a sudden. Why am I even being affected by it anyways? I still hate and envy her.. Right?

"RAINBOW!!"

I immediately snapped out of it when I heard a familiar southern american accent voice yelling my name. When I looked up I saw Applejack was about to toss the ball.

Finally, my legs started to move on its own as I immediately ran beside her to finally hit the ball. As soon she touched the ball with her fingertips, I jumped at the perfect time while closing my eyes.

At last.. I felt the ball hit my palm.

But why did Applejack gave me the ball? The other wing spikers were free at the time so.. Why pick me Aj?

And why do I feel so happy again? Danm what is this strange feeling?
