Chapter 7: The Ship Is In The Harbor Now

Song Inspiration: We Are Giants by Lindsey Stirling

Marie walked off the boat with Amelia behind her.
"Amelia, look at this beautiful country!" She said in awe.
Amelia snickered.
"Yes, mon ami." She was also fascinated, but not as much as Marie.
They started walking and turned into a boarding home and got a room. Marie pulled money out of a small drawstring bag she had. They walked up and found a fair sized room with beds and other furniture in it.
"This room is... quaint...." Amelia said slowly.
She was used to down-filled pillows and mattresses. Marie chuckled and said,
"Well its better than the forest floor on a hunting trip!" She set her things down and sat in a chair.
"Tomorrow we deliver the letter to Thomas Jefferson." She said softly.
"Alright," Amelia said as she also sat down.
Even though her posture wasn't the most ladylike, it certainly wasn't as bad as Marie's slumped-over form.

The next day, Marie rose early. She didn't know what the letter held, and since it seemed so important, she didn't want to risk losing it in a large street-crowd. So they left the boarding house and started making their way to Monticello.
When they arrived, it was about mid-day, considering how far away the residence was. As they walked up, someone opened the door and Marie spoke.
"Bonjour! I have a letter for Thomas Jefferson." She said to the woman in front of her and she nodded.
"I'll take it then,"
Marie shook her head.
"I'm afraid I can't do that. I was told not to give it to the hands of anyone else."
The woman nodded and sighed.
"Come in then," She led them into a room and said, "wait here."
A few moments passed and a man walked in, dressed in purple velvet. But Marie couldn't get over how much he resembled her father.
"What do you need little lady?" Jefferson asked and she bowed.
"I am Marie Antoinette Virginie Motier de la Fayette, phere to deliver a letter from Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, my father." She said and he smiled.
"Oh my! Marquis is quite a weasel!" Thomas carded a hand through his hair. "Of course!"
Marie quirked an eyebrow.
"Excusez-moi?"
"Your father was smart enough to send you, his daughter, knowing no one would suspect you to be carrying important information."
She smiled and pulled the letter out of her pocket and handed it to him.
"Ma'am I believe you may have saved your country." He said and Marie smiled over her shoulder to Amelia.
"I thank you for helping us as much as you can." She said to Jefferson.
"Well, after Hamilton had an affair and ruined his career, it makes my job easier." Thomas said, pride dripping from his voice.
"Well, thank you monsieur. But I should be going now."
"Alright, again, thank you!"
Marie tipped her head and she walked out with Amelia.
She couldn't help but feel pride rising in her chest.
