Chapter 6: Bonjour!
Song inspiration: You've Got A Friend in Me by Randy Newman
Amelia boarded the boat, intending on getting as far away as possible. She was no longer a princess, but a normal girl. She was given her cabin room and she went into it.
Amelia walked in and saw a girl, dressed in men's clothing and writing a letter.
"Hello?" Amelia greeted.
The girl turned around and greeted her.
"Bonjour!" (Hello!) She said as she rose to her feet and bowed instead of curtseying.
"I believe I'm staying with you until we reach where we're staying?" Amelia said.
"Oui! I am Marie Antoinette Virginie Motier de la Fayette!" She greeted cheerfully. "But you may call me Marie." She flashed a white smile much like her father's.
"I'm Amelia," She said in a simple tone.
"Very nice to meet you!" Marie greeted and turned her heel and started to write again.
"Who are you writing to?" Amelia asked. "Pardon me, I don't mean to invade your privacy!" Amelia corrected yourself.
"Oh, it's fine. It's to papa!" Marie answered. "I write to him every day... I know he needs words because France gone ruin and we trying to save it..." She said in broken English as she kept writing.
Once Marie was done she heated some wax by the candle on the desk and stamped it on the letter. She put it in a small chest and turned to Amelia.
"Where, er... are you headed?" She said struggling to find the right words.
Amelia didn't point it out or make fun of her for having trouble speaking English. Instead she did the opposite.
"New York, Amérique."(New York, America.) Amelia answered with a smile.
"Mon amie! Tu parle français?" (My friend! You speak French?) Marie's face lit up.
"Oui!" (Yes!) Amelia smiled fondly.
"Ah, c'est là que je vais!" (Ah, that is where I'm going!) Marie was happy she met someone who was fluent in French.
Everyone she had met so far looked at her like she was speaking gibberish.
"Eh bien, c'est merveilleux!" (Well, that's just wonderful!) Amelia sat down on her bed.
"J'espère que nous resterons en contact alors." (I hope we keep in touch, then.) Marie bowed to show she really hoped they met again.
The night went on and the two soon-to-be immigrants fell asleep.
Here's my semi-late Independence Day upload.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY. HAVE SOME IMMIGRANTS TO CELEBRATE OUR COUNTRY!
....that sounds wrong but right at the same time....
