Chapter 5: We Are Together
Song inspiration: We Don't Believe What's On TV by Twenty Øne Piløts
Mary walked into the summer boarding school with her curly hair, that resembled her father's. She walked off and into the building.
"Mary Jefferson!" A woman greeted cheerily. "We're glad to see you here again this summer!" Her name was Mrs. Johnson.
She was married to Mr. Johnson who was the owner of the land. She took care of the schooling and the place, though.
"Mrs. Johnson!" Mary greeted by kissing both cheeks of the woman.
Mary was dressed in a purple dress that was laced and frilled. She had a wide brimmed hat that had a fluffy feather sticking out of it for decoration. Her hands were covers in silky gloves and they held a purple parasol. Purple certainly was her favorite color.
"You're room is the same as usual, love." Mrs. Johnson said with a smile.
"I do hope whoever I'm roomed with is pleasant!" Mary returned the smile.
Mary made her way to her room to find a young girl sitting on the extra bed. She immediately rose to her feet and curtsied.
"I'm Susan Reynolds," She said softly and the Mary froze.
"Reynolds?" She repeated.
"Er, well... I guess I should say Lewis now..." Susan said awkwardly.
"As in James and Maria Reynolds?" Mary asked.
"Yes'm..." Susan answered quietly.
"I believe that your mother ruined Alexander Hamilton's life! I thank her for that!" Mary said with a laugh.
"Excuse me?" Susan looked up.
"I'm Mary Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson's daughter. After Hamilton ruined his own life by writing the Reynolds Pamphlet, it made my father's career much easier." She said as she put her parasol up and started to take her gloves off.
"But..." Susan was trying to find words without saying the words 'affair' or 'ruined'.
They left a bitter taste when she said them.
"I know, dear. It would only be foolish for me to comment on something I've experienced also... I'm afraid the only difference is my father has power while your mother has none!" Mary said bluntly.
"True," Susan said softly.
Another young girl walked in that had hazel eyes.
"I believe I'm your other roommate?" She said with confidence in her voice.
"I'm Mary Jefferson and this is Susan, er.... Lewis." Mary told the girl.
"Jefferson! I'm Theodosia Burr!" Theodosia answered cheerily.
Little did they know, there was a group of boys meeting up and having a conversation somewhat similar to their's.
"So your rooming with William Mulligan and I'm rooming with John Todd? And all our fathers know each other? That's insane!" Elliot Laurens said to Philip Hamilton.
"Yeah! As far as I've heard, our father stole cannons from the British together!" Philip said to William.
"Well, let's get to our rooms!" John exclaimed.
His father was James Madison, a very respectful man.
They all got to their rooms and the you teenagers settled in.
This summer was certainly going to be an adventure.
