Chapter 3: Hiding place

The room they had entered was very large. There was a giant, circular table in the center of the room, with a few chairs around it. There was a bookshelf in the far left hand corner of the room along with a couple of colorful bean bag chairs on the floor. The walls were plain, but there were many different pictures on the walls, most likely drawn by Zim. There were a few sets of small shards of colored glass that were tied with clear fishing line onto sticks, which was tied to the ceiling. The glass reflected the light that comes through the windows in the room, causing the colors to be reflected onto the ground. It was quite literally the most beautiful place Crystal had ever seen.

Zim led Crystal to the area with the bean bag chairs and sat down on a blue colored one. Crystal sat down on the other one, which was a sort of fuchsia color, across from Zim. Zim then spoke in a calm, quiet voice.

“This is where I go to get away from Dib and his friends” He said

“This place is beautiful, Zim” Crystal said, the awe of seeing the room somewhat present in her voice

“Well, you’re welcome to come here anytime you want” Zim said, a bashful smile forming on his face

“Thank you so much, Zim” Crystal replied “So…what exactly do you want to know?”

“To start, I wish to know how you exist in the first place. How is it possible that a human and an Irken were able to procreate?” Zim asked

Crystal let out a sigh.

“Well…that’s a hard one to answer…I was born in the same way kids on Earth are born, but my dad’s DNA somehow merged with my mom’s DNA. I looked like a normal human up until I was about five, which is when my skin started turning green. The doctors my mom took me to said that I was developing some kind of-”

“Skin condition?” Zim cut her off

“Yes, actually. When mom took me home, the second I get in...a bathtub full of soapy water, my skin feels like it’s on fire. Eventually, my dad found out that I was apparently becoming more Irken as the years went by. Even though my genetic DNA has stopped shifting as of now, I’m still gonna undergo a few more physical changes as I get older” Crystal finished

“I see. I never thought it would be possible for a hybrid to survive” Zim said in slight amazement

“You’d be surprised” Crystal said with an amused smile

“Okay, next question. According to legend, tallest Blue was the first Irken to ever practice magic. Do you hold these same abilities?” Zim asked

“Well…yes and no. Can I use magic? Yes. Was I born with magic? No, but I wish. The magic my father passed down to me was embedded into this” Crystal held up her necklace “As I get older, the magic in this will flow throughout my body naturally” She said

“What can you do with these abilities?” Zim asked

“I mostly use the telekinesis part of it to lift heavy objects, but if I ever get into a fight, I can use my magic in a lot of different ways for both offense and defense” She said

“That is amazing. But not as amazing as ZIM!!!” Zim yelled, jumping up from the bean bag chair

Crystal giggled at this. Zim was probably one of the funniest people she’d ever met. He probably had tons of friends. The thought of that made Crystal feel a little downcast. Why would she be important?

Zim noticed her sudden change in behavior and knelt down next to he, an expression of worry forming on his face. She looked at him and smiled sadly. Zim’s frown deepened and he gave her a hug. Crystal was mildly surprised, but soon enough, she returned the gesture.

“You probably have a-”

“A large circle of hyooman friends?” Zim asked, cutting her off

Zim let her go and stared right into her eyes.

“No” He said

“Huh?” Crystal asked, puzzled

“In complete honesty, you are most likely the only one in the entire school who...actually likes Zim” He said

Crystal was…surprised, to say the least. Zim didn’t have any friends? That was a basic first for her, since before all this, she knew that most of the kids in school would have at least one friend, but Zim? She honestly thought that he had at least a few friends. She nodded in understanding before she smiled.

“Does this make us friends yet?” She asked with a joking tone of voice

That comment made them both burst into a fit of laughter. They ended up laughing so hard that they soon found themselves on the floor trying to catch their breath. When they had finally calmed down, Zim stared crystal in the eyes and smiled at her.

“Zim accepts your friendship request, Crystal” He said
