Chapter 13 "They're Here"
Before entering a metal room, Agent Banachek turns to Elektra and says, "Stay out here, please. An agent will be asking you questions." Out of the corner of her optics she sees a few other agents standing in wait. She looks at Scarlett and Captain Lennox then returns her gaze to Agent Banachek.
"No," Elektra says as she takes a step closer to her team and sister. "What you have to show them, I can see as well." Captain Lennox and Scarlett look at her with a small smirk and grin; proud she held her ground.
The agents exchange glances before deciding to let her be in the room with them. "Please step inside," Agent Banachek requests. "They have to lock us in." A few civilian members of the group exchange glances in response before drawing attention to some scratches on the wall.
Epps speaks in awe and confusion, "Oh, wow. What's that? Freddy Krueger done been up in here or something?" One of the civilian men gets excited and responds:
"Oh, no, man. Freddy Krueger have four blades, man. That's only three. That's Wolverine! Right? That's Wolverine!" Scarlett snorts a bit and holds back a giggle, her hand covering her mouth gingerly.
Agent Simmons looks at the man with a serious unamused expression. "That's very funny." He looked around the room and says, "Anybody have any mechanical devices? BlackBerry? Key alarm? Cell phone?"
"I got a phone," the civilian from earlier says as he takes his phone out of his pocket. Agent Simmons takes the phone and puts it inside a glass box located in the center of the room. The box is covered in dents, scratches, and cracks, and Elektra's tank dropped at the realization of what was about to happen.
Elektra thinks to herself, 'Oh . . . Well, this is gonna suck.'
"Nokias are real nasty. You've got to respect the Japanese. They know the way of the samurai," Agent Simmons continues. The group is handed goggles that each person puts on.
Another one of the citizen's whispers to SecDef, "Nokia's from Finland." In response he says, politely telling her to be quiet:
"Yes, but he's, you know, a little strange. He's a little strange." As he responds, Agent Simmons begins flipping switches.
Agent Benechek adds, "We're able to take the Cube radiation and funnel it into that box."
'Interesting,' Elektra thinks. She feels a soft poke in her side and looks at her sister, Scarlett. The two share a small smile as they hold hands. Scarlett lightly squeezes her hand in reassurance before the two look back at the box. With eyes protected and hearts pounding, the group keeps their eyes on the box.
Suddenly, the phone comes to life; at first shaking violently to shifting into a different form with legs, arms, and eyes. The majority of the group steps back in surprise. Elektra gulps lightly, in disbelief of what she's seen and worry of what may come.
'Humans have unlocked and potentially harnessed the power of the Cube. Shit, this may be bad,' Elektra thinks. Her free hand clenches into a fist as she strives to remain calm. While the majority of the habitants in the room are panicked and extremely curious, the Agents remain calm and collected. And one of them perhaps a bit much.
Agent Simmons has been pacing the room, watching the room and those in it. The whole time, he has been emitting the feelings of intimidation and superiority. As he nears Elektra, he says, "Mean little sucker, huh?" It took everything she had to not flip him off and to well, obliterate him. The now phone-transformer began to analyze the box and the people on the other side to shooting at them with guns and missiles.
"That thing is freaky!" a female citizen says.
Agent Simmons nears Agent Banachek, adding, "Kind of like the itty-bitty Energizer Bunny from hell, huh?" The group continue to watch the creature intently as it begins to cause damage to its' prison.
"He's breaking the box," Agent Banachek whispers to Agent Simons in annoyance. With an aggressive expression, the later Agent presses a button on a control console in his hands. An immense power is emits within the box and the transformer dies.
The people take off their goggles with greater understanding and bewilderment. Though they've witnessed spectacular and haunting transformer experiences, they were yet amazed. Scarlett looks at her sister and says, "That was . . ."
"Insane," Captain Lennox says, finishing her sentence. The group unanimously agrees with the spoken words.
With a shudder and sudden gut-wrenching feeling, Elektra looks at the door then closes her eyes. She can't understand why she's feeling this way, until a sudden rumble shakes not only the room, but the entire base. "Shit. Shit!" Her hands enter her hair in modestly conserved fear and disbelief.
The group looks around the room and at each other alert and alarmed. Especially the soldiers.
"What's wrong?" Captain Lennox asks as he steps closer to Elektra. Her eyes said it all as his jawline clenches and he rests his hands on her biceps then whispers, "We're in this together. Don't worry." All the time they've known each other, he's never seen her this panicked and afraid. With the years that have passed, he's grown fond of her. Discovering she's not human was a shock but it hasn't swayed him like he thought it would. A part of him was desperately holding on in fear while the rest was out of hope.
This made her smile and have relief enter her being. Scarlett did her best to hold back her grin. A part of her doesn't fully care that if what she wants to have happen would be disturbing and perhaps impossible; she absolutely sees Will and Elektra together as more than coworkers and friends.
The Secretary of Defense looks at the group, his stomach in his throat. "Gentlemen, they know the Cube is here." The group looks at him then one another. Captain Lennox begins to ponder on what needs to happen, figuring the next coarse of action.
Agent Banachek walks over to an intercom system and presses a button. "Banachek. What's going on?" As he speaks with the person on the other line, his voice grows more distressed. "What?"
Captain Lennox figures out what to do and he goes over to the Agents and asks, "Do you have an arms room?"
While that conversation transpires, Scarlett speaks with Elektra: "Does HE know you're here?"
Elektra is silent for a moment before shrugging and shaking her head no. "I don't know. All I know is things have become far more difficult and dangerous. Reinforcement is on its' way. I don't have a signal to communicate with them within the base to know an estimated time." Scarlett nods and looks at Captain Lennox as he comes back over, beckoning his team to form a group huddle.
"Alright," Lennox begins. "We've got an evolving plan of action. We're heading to the arms room to get supplies then going from there."
The group nods in agreement and Elektra thinks of something that needs done. 'We'll need the help of a friend of mine. He needs rescued first.' She looks over at Sam and Michaela. Sam meets her eyes and a spark of hope ignites in them.
