Dinner talk
Patton'sPOV
After three weeks of what I can only describe as pure domestic bliss, it became a time I dreaded. Logan and I had to go back to work.
We both were teachers, but while I taught younger kids Logan taught high schoolers. We used our vacation time to make sure Virgil settled in comfortably, which he has and I'm glad, but we never took into account us leaving for work. At dinner, Logan and I were going to explain to Virgil what is going on.
As I make dinner, however, my thoughts were all over the place going over how Virgil would react. Would he panic? Cry? Oh no if he cried I might quit my job. What if it comes to that? How would we get by oh god what if we run out of money?
"Daddy? Mr. Kookie-Kat and Duck are hungry."
I peer down at my little storm cloud, who is looking at me with the biggest eyes, and notice him holding his stuff cat out to show me with the duck standing beside him.
Oh god we need to find a place for the duck to go!
"Dinner is almost ready honey. Why don't you go get Papa and he can help you feed Duck."
Virgil nods and rushes to get Logan from his office, the duck waddling behind him. Why he named the duck Duck I'll never know, but that's besides the point! What kind of babysitter would want to watch a toddler AND a duck?
I feel arms wrap around my waist and a chin rest on my shoulder. I melt into the hold and break out of whatever trace I just put myself in.
"What pledges your mind dearest?"
I smile at the kiss to my cheek that follows that sentence, my mind relaxing for a brief moment before I start word vomiting all my thoughts to Logan.
"WhathappensifVirgilcrieswhenwetellhim?Whereistheduckgonnago?Wecantjustleavetheduckalone!Whatifwecantfindasitterordaycare?WhatifVirgilhatesus!WhatifIjustquitmyjo-"
My anxious rambles were once again cut off by Logan kissing me deeply. I should be mad he interrupted me, I know I should, but this never fails to make me feel better so I let it slide(like always).
"My love, please calm down. I hate to see you in such distress, especially when it's something I can't fix."
"I'm trying Lo. It's just making me feel so.....bleh."
He smiles and pulls me into a hug while resting his chin on top of my head. I cuddle up to him, nuzzling my nose against his neck, and taking deep calming breaths.
"Virgil will understand if we explain it properly. I'm sure we can find somewhere for Duck, and if not I'll build a pen for him in the backyard. An in-house sitter would be the best option for Virgil until he starts school. He will not hate us for working. You love your job my life, I know you would regret quiting even if you thought it was the right thing to do."
I sigh and smile into his shoulder. He just used logic to tear down any negative thought that had built up in my head. I let out a giggle and reach up to kiss him.
"Thank you Logie Bear. I needed to hear that."
"I'm always here to help Patton-Cake."
*giggle* "You haven't used that one in a while."
"Yes I know."
Just as we were about to kiss again, we hear some pretty loud quacks and giggles coming from the living room. We look at each other before nodding and separating, me back to cooking dinner and Logan to the two in the living room.
I smile when I hear Lo arguing with the duck again while Virgil giggles and think about how amazing my little family really is.
