Under Attack

Parker was once again forced to stay back in Alexandria, this time she agreed to do so. Because of their reasons for it mainly. If things went to hell while they were moving the herd- tested out their plan, they might have to run and they had no water which means a lot of them would probably die of thirst before dying to a walker. Despite knowing and agreeing that staying back was probably for the best, she still wanted to help in any way possible. She climbed down the stairs, just finishing 'How To Kill A Mockingbird', and she joined Carl in the living room, the two sitting on opposite sides of the couch.

"I feel like a damn housewife," Parker said with an angry sigh. "I want to be out there helping them." Carl laughed at her and how upset she seemed to be in there,

"Me too, but you know what?" He looked at her, and she turned her head slightly, raising an eyebrow. "We're ten times safer here."

"That's not the point," She chuckled, pushing his hat down over his eyes. "I want to be useful. I'm sick of being trapped inside these godforsaken walls. I want to do something."

"Don't say that," He muttered as he fixed his hat. "You'll curse us. Again."

"Oh, I'm cursed now, aye?"

"Yes, every time you complain about being left behind while they're out doing something. Something always- and I mean always- goes wrong." Carl laughed as she gave him a dirty look.

"And they still haven't learned to take me with them." She shook her head, kissing her teeth. "What do you want to do?" Parker asked after a moment. "I'm bored." She stood up walking over to a closet that had a bunch of random games and toys in it. Mainly for kids. "Do you want to go for a walk?"

"You sound like a teenager," Carl told her as he twisted around to see what she was doing.

"Oh, this could be fun," She grabbed a baseball, tossing it to Carl who caught it right before it hit a ceramic vase. "Nice catch. Let's take Judith out. Toss the ball around. Like we used to."

"Yeah except for, now I'm like fifteen and you're almost forty." Parker's jaw dropped as she picked up Judith.

"Did you just call me 'almost forty'?! Carl, how fast do you think I age? My gosh, I'm thirty-five at best. You brat." They put Judith in her stroller and headed down the street, tossing the ball back and forth as they talked. When Carl was about to toss it back, his eyes locked onto something to his right and he paused entirely. Parker stopped pushing Judtih and followed his gaze and found him looking at Enid and Ron, sitting together, their back turned to them. She placed a hand on his shoulder, re-gaining his attention and she nodded her head signaling to keep moving. "In my opinion, you're better than him. In every way possible. And if Enid can't see that, then she's blind." Carl smiled, looking down at his feet.

"Thanks, Aunt Parker."

"Carl?" Gabriel's voice called out from behind them, he seemed out of breath as he ran to catch up to them. "Parker?" They hadn't talked to him since Deanna had ratted him out at the meeting. None of their group has, he'd pretty much been kicked out from it, an unspoken decision that everyone followed along with.

"What?" Carl snapped, turning to Gabriel. He was just lucky neither of them had any weapons on them at the moment.

"You heard what I told Deanna about your group," Gabriel must have picked up on their hostility towards him, it was obvious. He may have been a coward but he wasn't stupid when it came to some things.

"You have about thirty more seconds before I show you how untrustworthy and dangerous we can be." Parker threatened him, Gabriel stepped back a bit, his hands held together in front of him.

"What do you want?" Carl rushed him, his voice blunt.

"It was about me, not you or your group," Gabriel explained to them in a hurry. "I know that now. I want to help. You tried to teach me back at my church. But I'm ready to learn now"

"I think you need to tell everybody," Carl kept up his cold front.

"There's no 'think'. You do need to tell everybody."

"Yeah, I think you're right," Gabriel agreed, turning to walk away.

"Come by around three," Carl sighed, feeling bad for him. "We'll start with the machete." After finishing their walk around the neighborhood, Parker took Carl and Judith home, putting her niece down for a nap. The two were sitting in Carl's room, playing cards together when they suddenly heard screams from outside. Running to the window, Parker looked out and saw at least twenty men currently scaling their walls from the outside. She turned to Carl, her chest rising and falling quickly.

"Grab your gun. Now!" She directed, already hurrying to her room and grabbing her knife. Rick and the majority of the group didn't want her to have her pistol on her because they didn't want her to kill Nicholas, but that didn't stop her from keeping her knife.

"Aunt Parker, come on!" Carl yelled to her, waiting for her at the top of the stairs.

"Go, go, go." She rushed, both running down the stairs, almost crashing into Carol. Parker pushed Carl's hands down to keep him from accidentally shooting her.

"We saw from upstairs," Carl breathed out, holding his gun tightly, now having it lowered.

"They're everywhere. They're getting in from all over," Parker added, her knuckles white from how tightly her hands were wound around the handle of her knife.

"You have to stay here and keep Judith safe," Carol instructed. "You too, Parker."

"Got it," Parker squeezed her shoulder as they all split up, Carl locked the front door while she locked all the windows. Parker looked back at Carl. "Double-check the back door. Make sure that it's locked." When Carl ran back, he saw Parker holding a rifle, checking it for ammo.

"Damn, Aunt Parker. Where the hell did you get that?"

"I know your father too well." She sent him a wink as she put the strap over her shoulders. "It's been a long time since I've gotten my hands on one of these," She pulled the hammer back, checking the scope. "I'm just praying I don't have to use it." They stayed in the house, patrolling the downstairs, both taking turns with running up and doing a sweep. Parker held up her hand when the doorknob started to rattle, she signaled for Carl to go against the wall. The two waited until the door opened before turning and pointing their guns at whoever entered. To all three of their surprise, it was just Enid.

"Hi..?" Enid greeted, looking between the two with wide eyes as she stared at the guns aimed at her.

"Holy shit, we almost shot you!" Parker whispered, dropping the rifle and letting it hang from her shoulders.

"Why didn't you just knock?" Carl asked her, shutting the door.

"I have these," Enid answered, holding up a set of keys. "Didn't want them to have them."

"Smart thinking," Parker praised, taking the keys from Enid. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to give you the keys," Enic responded as if it was obvious. "And... I wanted to say goodbye." She aimed the last part at Carl.

"Okay, watch the door. Tell me if you see them coming," Carl instructed, completely ignoring her last few words.

"I'm not staying," She finally told him. Parker saw Carl's face drop and she stared at the two.

"You're not going anywhere. No one leaves this house unless I say so." Parker stated, looking Enid in the eyes. "Sit down. You're going to help us protect Judith." Enid sucked in a large breath through her nose as she locked eyes with Parker, sitting down on the floor.

"They're not getting inside this house," Carl assured her, sitting down on the floor, the two back to back. "We're not gonna let them." Parker placed her hand on Carl's head and he looked up at her.

"I'm going upstairs to keep an eye out. Shout if you need me, okay?" He gave her a nod and she went to walk away but paused on the first stair. "I've got a good view from the windows. I can see the whole town from up there." She gave Enid a warning glance before continuing up the stairs. She walked to Rick's bedroom which had the best view that overlooked most of Alexandria. Carefully opening the window, Parker looked through the scope of her gun, taking in the carnage that was occurring outside. She saw men in ragged clothing running around with all sorts of weapons, attacking anyone in their path. Anger filled her at the thought of these men attacking defenseless people, and her finger twitched on the trigger.

She had a silencer on the gun and was practically out of sight from how she was angled, so she shot down as many people as she could. She caught sight of Carol making a run for the armory, so she helped clear a path for her too, shooting any of the people who even simply looked in her general direction. As Parker was shooting down the attackers, and putting down any of the people who had wounds that instantly earned them a place on death row, car horn blared. The loud sound echoed off the metal walls.

Her eyes widened, thoughts turning to Rick and the others, the herd of walkers they were facing. Parker knew that they should have returned by now. It was only supposed to be a run-down of the plan. Nothing was supposed to happen. Unless something went wrong. And if that was the case, the truck horn could put not only Alexandria but the people out at the quarry at risk.  She ran down the stairs, taking one of the guy's jackets that was hanging on the railing, and threw it on as she skidded to a stop outside the living room. "Carl! Enid! Stay here!"

"You're not going out there," Carl instantly shot up to his feet.

"I have to," Parker said quietly, handing him the keys. "You two stay here, okay? Take care of your sister for me." Parker didn't give Carl a chance to protest and walked out before he could stop her. She threw the hood up over her head, finding the body of one of the people she had shot down, using their fresh blood to make it look like she had been down there killing. She had to fit in. She had to get that horn to stop. Something caught her attention, a letter carved into the person's forehead. 'W''. She remembered Rick and Daryl talking about people with 'W's' on their foreheads and now they were here.

Another thing clicked in her mind, something from when they brought Noah back to his town. The word 'WOLVES' was spray painted onto the side of one of the buildings. Now she was starting to wonder if that's who they were. As she ran, she saw blood and bodies scattered everywhere, she felt sick as she passed multiple bodies of people she knew. She heard footsteps behind her, sounding like they were running, and she spun on her heel, her gun raised. A man with a 'W' carved into his forehead had a machete raised above his head ready to attack her, but she shot him in the head, his body crumpled to the ground at her feet. "You dead bastard." She muttered under her breath, kicking his corpse.

She ran towards the sound, killing as many of the Wolves as she could, not thinking about it. She had her own people to protect. Carl and Judith and everyone else inside Alexandria. She skidded to a stop in her tracks, hidden in some bushes when the horn stopped before she could even reach the gates. There were a few heavy footsteps behind her and when she turned around she was met with a guy yelling as he swung down with a hatchet. Parker rolled to the side, the head of the hatchet just missing her head by a few centimeters and getting embedded into the ground.

"Quick..? Or slow?" He asked, almost like he had to fight to get the words out as he tugged on the handle. The handle was doused in blood, along with the man who held it. Her eyes went wide as they passed between the weapon by her head and the guy who towered above her when a set of hands grabbed her.

"No, no!" She muttered in a panic as she was held still. Her heart hammered against her chest so hard she thought it would leave a bruise. While the first attacker still struggled with freeing his hatchet from the bushes, the other had managed to get a knife to her throat. She jerked her shoulder, turning her head to the side, and sunk her teeth into the guy's hand and he let go of her, not without managing to drag the blade of the knife across her mouth. The metallic taste of blood filled her mouth, a mix of his and her own.

She shuffled away, getting away from the bush right as a bullet whizzed past her head and hit the guy through the bush straight through the eye. Parker adjusted the rifle as she backed away, and when she hit the trigger nothing happened and she cursed under her breath when she tossed it aside. "Piece of shit." Parker pulled her knife from her belt, her eyes looking up as the hatchet swung. She dropped down, narrowly missing getting beheaded. Jumping back up, she flipped the knife in her hand, catching the blade in her fingers and hurling it at his head. He dropped to the floor with the knife sticking through his forehead and she collapsed to her knees as she caught her breath.

"Parker!" The sound of Spencer's voice caught her attention and she realized he was the one who had fired off the gun that most likely saved her life. That did save her life. Parker looked up, her eyes trying to locate him as her chest rose and fell with each heavy breath she took. She finally spotted him in the upstairs window of a random house, she didn't know if he had been given his own or if it was the first place he managed to get to, but whatever the reason she was grateful that he was there. "Parker, behind you!" She pinched her eyebrows together turning around to see one of the Wolves men dropping down the wall and charging at her, with his machete at the ready.

"Why?!" She breathed out, struggling to get up, trying to get to her knife that was still in the first guy's head. The gun was useless to her it was jammed up and she definitely didn't have the time to spare to try and clear it. Just as she got to her feet another gunshot echoed and she felt an instant pain sear through her arm. Turning around she was relieved to see that the man was dead but when her hand landed on her arm where the pain was, it came back covered in blood.  "You could use some target practice!" She joked, still a bit out of breath. It was only a graze so she wasn't too worried about it causing too much trouble.

Parker scooped the rifle up from off the ground, pushing her way through the bushes so that she was crouched down, right dead in the center, the green hiding her from sight as she fought with the rifle. She heard some commotion and that's when she saw Morgan preparing to fight a man with an axe in his hands. Parker raised her gun which was now working, and pulled the trigger, hitting the man in the heart. She ran out into the street, shooting him point-blank in the head while Morgan watched her with his mouth slightly open.

"You shouldn't be here," Morgan said, his voice wavering.

"I know. Anyways, the horn," Parker got straight to the point. "Were you the one who stopped it?" He nodded his head, unable to meet her gaze as he stared at the dead man at his feet. All that caught Parker's attention were the mutilated corpses of her people.

"I could have stopped him."

"Yeah, but I did." She rushed through her words. "Are the others back?"

"No," Morgan shook his head. "You didn't have to do that."

"Those are innocent people without weapons." Parker defended her actions. "They don't have a way to defend themselves."

"I could have stopped him," Morgan repeated his words from before.

"If they were allowed to have weapons they would be using them." Parker continued.

"Did you hear me?" His voice was low while he stared at the wooden staff in his hands

"Morgan, I don't give a shit!" Parker shouted at him. "These people are murdering my people! I don't know where my family is and I'm fucking terrified. I don't give a single shit if you could have stopped some random dead guy or not. Focus on stopping the other ones!" Morgan looked ready to argue but resisted the urge.

"Okay." He nodded his head in defeat. "Your mouth.." He pointed to the right side of his lip and she raised her hand to the right side and she realized her upper and lower lip were both split in two. That's why she kept getting blood in her mouth. She dropped her hand down, seeing the blood staining her fingers.

"We have to get to the armory before them," Parker explained her thinking, ignoring the new wave of pain now that she knew her mouth was split open. "Carol was heading there, but I lost track of her. If we keep moving in that direction, this might work."

"You don't have to kill people," Morgan started in again.

"Yes, Morgan. I do." Parker muttered, her teeth clenched as she got tired of him saying the same things over again. "It's them or us."

"Parker!" Morgan finally snapped. "You don't like it!"

"No, I don't like it," Parker stepped towards him, her eyes flickering back and forth between his. "My people are dying! But I'll do anything for my family. I need to get to that damn armory so I can help them. Are you with me or not?"

"No," Morgan stepped away, shaking his head.

"Fine, you need a gun?" She asked, lifting the rifle off her shoulders, and offering it to him. He pushed it back towards her and she laughed bitterly.

"I'm good." He twisted his staff in his hands and she gave him a firm nod, putting the gun over her shoulders and swinging it around so it was on her back. Parker sighed, biting her tongue as she stared at the man before her. She turned around, picked up the axe from the dead man's hands, and ran to help the rest of the people, and anyone else she possibly could. As she ran down the streets, heading towards the armory, she saw four of the Wolves charging straight for her. She tucked the axe between her belt and her jeans, twisting around the gun, and raised it up without a second thought, killing them all within seconds, each one with a headshot. She continued running, jogging down the armory steps until she came face to face with a gun.

"Hey!" Parker shouted, her voice quivering as she raised her hands. "Not an enemy!" She looked past the gun and saw who it was. "Carol? What the hell are you wearing?" Carol was dressed like one of the Wolves, with a scarf covering her mouth and nose and a bloody 'W' painted on her forehead. Parker didn't have time to question her further because Carol shoved the gun against her forehead. "Carol! It's Parker!"

"Parker?!" Carol gasped, lowering the gun. "I thought I told you to stay home."

"I heard that horn, I didn't know if anyone was gonna stop it." She explained to her. "I wasn't just going to stay there and hope that it would stop on its own."

"Are Carl and Judith okay?" Carol questioned her.

"Yes," Parker nodded, dropping her hands to her sides as she pulled the hood off her head. "Carl and Enid are watching over the house. We have to go back out there though."

"Do you have enough ammo?" Carol asked her. Parker checked how many rounds she had left before nodding.

"I've got plenty." She confirmed.

"Sorry about almost killing you. I didn't recognize you with the blood covering the lower half of your face." She apologized as she made room for Parker to pass.

"Don't worry about it. Do I pull off the look better than Rick does?" They shared a short laugh.

"Let's split up," Carol led her through the armory handing her a couple of handguns and a few extra knives. "Take some weapons. If you see our people, give them one." Parker gave her a firm nod before she ran back out and onto the streets, one gun holstered to her leg, two tucked into the waistband of her jeans. And three different knives in different pockets and the rifle over her shoulders. She saw Maggie walking down the street in a hurry, looking around in confusion. When her eyes landed on Parker, she rushed towards her.

"Parker?"

"Maggie!" Parker called out, relieved to see another person she knew, she ran over to her. "Thank god," She quickly handed her a fully loaded pistol and a knife. "We're in deep shit."

"I know," Maggie nodded, her eyes still taking in everything. They fought until the last of the Wolves fled, and even then Parker didn't relax. She turned to Maggie when it was all over, looking at the rifle in her hands.

"I guess we're not so safe after all."
