The Ride There

Parker stopped struggling when the door closed, falling against the seat with her eyes closed, her hands covering her face as she let the most painful sob make its way out of her throat. She was being ripped away from her family. She was being taken away by the monster that had her husband in the back of a truck like a caged animal. She could feel the babies moving in her stomach and the sensation only made her cry harder. She hated everything that had happened in the past twenty-four hours. She hated what happened to Glenn and Abraham. What Maggie, Sasha, and Rosita were going through, what they all had to watch. She hated that they had been forced to sit there and watch that happen. Losing two of their own right in front of their eyes. She wanted to kill Negan for what he had done, and the anger that set in as the pain began to fade filled her with rage. The driver's side door opened and Negan himself climbed into the car.

"Let's go for a ride." Parker moved as close to the door as possible, staring out the window with her hand pressed against the glass. She watched her family disappear from sight before looking away. She should have put up a bigger fight, and if she hadn't been pregnant, she would have kicked and screamed until they let her go, but she wasn't just taking care of herself anymore. She was also taking care of her twin babies. "I'm sorry for what I did," Negan apologized, and even though it sounded genuine Parker didn't believe him. "But what happened out there.. that had to happen."

"Really? You? Sorry? I find that impossible to believe." She scoffed, leaning her forehead on the window, watching the trees fly by.

"I am. But I had to make sure you and your people understood."

"By killing a pregnant woman's husband?" Parker snapped, directing her gaze towards Negan. "Because that's what you just did, you ignorant bastard. That man you just beat to death was a husband! He was going to be a father! That's why we were out there. We were trying to get his wife help. So, congratulations. You probably just killed an entire family." Negan seemed to be stunned, his silence being a dead giveaway.

"Is she the one who looked sick?" He questioned curiously, a faint smile on his face. "My goodness, she looked terrible."

"Yes," She replied dryly. "I hope you're happy."

"I didn't know."

"Because you didn't bother to ask," Parker spat. "But it doesn't matter anymore, right? My best friend died because of you. My husband was taken away like he's some kind of animal and I'm stuck here with you. What the hell are you planning on doing with me anyways?"

"To you?" Negan repeated, chuckling to himself like the question was the funniest thing he'd heard all day. "Nothing. You're just my insurance in case Rick tries something. What happens to you is really in his hands, because if he tries something, well.... you've seen what happens to people when someone tries to cross me."

"You beat them to death," She muttered angrily. "You're a monster, you that?"

"I'm no monster," Negan shook his head. "I'm just a man who's trying to survive. Just like everybody else left in this world."

"And the two people you killed back there? That was you just 'surviving'?" Parker paused for a moment as she took a breath. "What would you have done to Carl, hm? If Rick didn't agree to your shitty terms?"

"The kid?" Negan raised an eyebrow. "That was all for show. To get your prick of a brother to understand the new rules. I don't kill kids."

"What if I had punched you instead of Daryl? Would you have killed me?" She asked bitterly, staring out the window.

"Why do you think I didn't kill you back there? If it wasn't for the bun in your oven I would have smashed your head in instead of the second guy. Probably would have been a lot more effective. But, killing kids? That's not how I operate."

"No, you just break people's skulls," Parker commented, swallowing hard around the lump in her throat. "And you make... you make their family watch."

"You alright over there?" Negam asked, noticing the pause halfway through her sentence. "If you're gonna spew some chunks, do it out the window. Try not to get in on the car."

"Fuck you," She ground out quietly. "You're a horrible person. You're nothing more than a waste of space who takes what he wants because you can."
She looked through the side mirror, seeing the truck Daryl was put in a couple of vehicles behind. "What are you going to do with Daryl?"

"He's going to work for me for a while, and if he doesn't.... well, let's just say it won't end well for him."

"If you even lay a finger on him.. I'll kill you," Parker warned him, glaring at him.

"Damn, you've got guts." He kissed his teeth. "I'd love to get to know you more. Too bad you aren't the leader of that group of assholes. Maybe you could've avoided all of this and your friends would still be alive." He waited for some snarky reply but never got one. "Rick, is he older or younger?"

"Four years older."

"I'm just saying... I think your older brother causes a lot of problems," He continued with his rant. "I mean, he made the decision to kill my men, right?"

"You don't know half of the shit we've been through that Rick's gotten us out of," Parker hissed, defending her brother. "You don't get to talk shit about him like that." Negan laughed, raising a hand in fake surrender, seeming to find this whole ordeal to be one big joke.

"Alright. I'm sorry. Tell me, how's the baby? We have a great doctor at the Sanctuary." She didn't feel the need to correct him, one less fact he knew about her the better.

"The Sanctuary?" She repeated. "The hell is that?"

"It's where I live," Negan replied. "You're going to love it there. You could join the rest of my wives if you wanted to."

"Wives?" She looked at him in disgust. "Plural?"

"Yeah," He nodded. "I'm not really married to any of them because finding a priest is difficult these days, but they are women who are there to help me pass the time."

"God, you're sick," Parker whispered, feeling like she was about to be sick. "Stop the car."

"Yeah.. no."

"Stop the-" She swallowed back vomit as she tried to finish her sentence. "-car or im going to throw up on you," Parker covered her mouth as she gagged. Negan reluctantly stopped the car, unlocked the door and she practically fell out of the seat once she got the door open. She stumbled to the edge of the road, leaning against the tree as she threw up the little bit that remained in her stomach. She stood there for a moment to catch her breath, tears stinging her eyes as her stomach muscles contracted, trying to get her to vomit up more of what wasn't there. She felt a hand on her back ans she turned away, moving away from him. "Don't!"

"Okay, alright," He stepped back a bit. "Just trying to see if you're dying on me or not."

"Be quiet," She breathed out, bracing her hand on the tree.

"No need to be so aggressive," Negan laughed. " What the hell is your last name? You keep it, change it?" She stared at him confused.

"What?" She stood up straight, waiting for him to say something.

"I'm gettin' to know you." He stated enthusiastically, pointing a finger at her.

"Grimes?"

"Really? Thats your husbands last name?"

"No.. his is Dixon." She clarified, once again shooting him a glare.

"So you use Grimes?" Negan continued. "Or did you do that confusing hyphenating shit so youre a Grimes-Dixon." Parker didnt respond, too busy looking around. It was just Negan's car and a couple others, and she already knew the forest pretty well. She could try to escape. If she kicked him hard enough, she'd probably be able to break a leg, get the upper hand and run away. Negan seemed to realize what she was thinking as her eyes danced around their surroundings. "I wouldnt do that if I were you. The way this works is that you, your husband and your brother are intertwined, you understand? We have the three of you right where we need you. To control each other. So, if you make one wrong move, your beloved husband will end up with some missing fingers or maybe his entire hand. You picking up what I'm putting down?" Parker clenched her fists at her side, chewing on the inside of her cheek.

"Don't you dare hurt him."

"Like I said before. What happens... that's all up to you," Negan sounded unphased. "And him, of course. But mostly you. You see, if he tried something stupid like.. here's a good one, trying to escape, it could kill you."

"So could a walker," Parker countered. "So could a small infected scratch. Or getting struck by lightning." Negan couldnt seem to find an answer. "What, cat got your tongue? You're not special. Everything in this world could kill me. But it sure as hell isnt going to be you." She walked past Negan and back to the car, closing the door. She didn't speak for the rest of the trip, which probably wasn't the brightest idea she'd ever had. With all the arguing with Negan and the frustration she let out during their conversations, she forgot about her pain for a moment. But when the silence became deafening and all she had were her thoughts, thats when she regretted not speaking.

Everytime she closed her eyes, she saw the baseball bat that was currently in the back, she could hear the crack that occurred on impact, saw the blood splatter, the puddles of brain matter and flesh on the ground. Every time she close her eyes. .. she was forced to relive what had happened. Grief-stricken and shocked, Parker was left alone with her thoughts as Negan drove. Amongst the scariest images that passed through her mind, she thought of Glenn in Atlanta, when they were on runs together. Parker had seen a jewlery store and had insisted that they go to get some new earrings for Carol and maybe a bracelet or something for Lori, and Glenn had agreed to go. Once inside, they found the place relatively empty of jewlry, but Parker managed to find a pair of earrings amidst a mass of broken glass. Glenn had been looking for anything he could find and found a bracelet. It was part of a set, one of those tacky friendship bracelets that connected to the other and combined said 'Best Friends' and he held it out to show her.

"For my 'fri'," Glenn handed it to her with a laugh. "You get it? Because there's only half the word?" Parker has spotted another fourth of the bracelet.

"Hey, what's that one?" She bent down to pick it up. "Oh, this is perfect. Im the 'Fri' and you can be the 'st'," They both laughed as she handed him the other bracelet. Unfortunately, they had both broken about a month or so after finding them and the only things she had now was the necklace he had given her when they were on the road after they'd escaped Terminus and she wrapped her fingers around the amulet. It was scratched up and covered in blood and dirt, slightly battered and worn but still legible. But the fact that it was a gift from Glenn made it even more special. When the car stopped, Parker barely realized, and only when Negan knocked on the window did she force herself back to reality.

"Time to wake up." Parker got out of the car, arms crossed as she looked around. They had stopped at what appeared to be some kind of warehouse, perhaps an old factory building, run-down but still functioning. Parker saw the fences surrounding the place, the walkers chained to them and various things inside to keep away unwanted guests. She turned to look at Negan with an unimpressed face.

"This is your Sanctuary?" Parker quirked an eyebrow. "I expected... more."

"Careful with what you say," Negan warned her as he got Lucille out of the back. "This is going to be your new home." She heard the sound of struggle behind her and turned to see Daryl being held down by two of Negan's men. Daryl's eyes were on Negan and when he was pulled out of the truck and he saw Parker standing a few feet away from him, he almost had a heart attack. He thought she was safe with Rick, but she was here.

"Parker..?" At first, he figured his eyes were playing tricks on him or something. "Parker!"

"Daryl!" Parker felt tears well up in her eyes as she tried to take a step in his direction, but Negan caught her arm. "Let me see him."

"I think you're forgetting something," Negan said, his eyebrows raised expectantly. "Something at the end of that sentence."

"Please," She forced out the word and felt Negan let go of her arm. He gestured to the men holding Daryl and they let him go, allowing him to run towards Parker who met him in the middle.

"You have ninety seconds," Negan stated as Parker buried her face in Daryl's chest. "I'll be counting."

"God," Parker whispered, brushing the hair out of Daryl's face as he placed his hands on her waist. "I thought you were dead and then I saw you and... oh, my god, I'm so sorry."

"Don't apologize. It ain't your fault," Darly told her. "I'm glad you're alright. The hell are you doin' here?"

"He brought me," Parker answered, gesturing with her eyes in Negans direction. Her eyes glanced down at the blood that covered half his body and remembered the bullet wound. "What did they do to you?"

"I'll be fine," Daryl assured her. "Listen to me, alright? Don't do anythin' stupid, got it?"

"But I take all the stupid with me, remember?" He wiped the tear that fell down her cheek with his thumb.

"Forty-five seconds!"

"I won't," Parker promised him, trying to keep her tears at bay. "We don't have much time. I just... he killed Glenn.." Daryl hugged Parker tightly as he tried to hold back his own tears.

"I know. I know, and I'm so sorry. It's my fault."

"No, it's not," She shook her head.

"Twenty-five seconds!"

"Don't say that," Parker whispered. "It's not your fault. It's not. Just like Dale wasn't my fault. Don't blame yourself. It will destroy you."

"Fifteen seconds!"

"We ain't got much time," Daryl pointed out. "I love you, you got that? I'm sorry I was such a dick before."

"Ten seconds!"

"I love you too," Parker told him, nodding. "I love you, and I'm going to get us out of here, okay? I'm gonna get us out."

"Five seconds!"

"Fuck it," Daryl muttered, pulling Parker towards him and kissing her. She tried to savor the feeling of his lips on hers, but no sooner had Negan's men pulled him away and a hand on her arm pulled her back.

"I love you too.." She whispered the words as she watched him still fight against them.

"You hear that?" Negan laughed, staring at Daryl. "She said she loves you. But don't worry, I'll take good care of her and your baby." He winked at Daryl, who lunged forward in a fit of rage. Parker saw Negan's men dragging him away and turned to him with tears in her eyes.

"Will I get to see him again?"

"If you're good," Negan replied, leading her away. "And if he behaves. See? It's all about teamwork. Come on, let's show you around your new home."
