Negotiating Terms

"I'm going!" Parker shouted from the top of the stairs. "Maggie's going. I am too!"

"Parker, Maggie can make her own decision," Rick pointed out to her.

"And what do I do?" Parker snapped back. "Sit here and get told that I can't do things? I'm my own person, and just because there's two future people growing inside me, doesn't take away my right to decide what I do and when I do it!" She was angry, and Rick could see it. She had woken up that morning and Daryl was already getting ready, informing her that they were going to launch their attack on Negan's compound that day. Parker had not been at the meeting with Andy the night before because she had spent the night with Maggie, comforting Rosita after Abraham left her without an explanation, so she knew little of their plan. It was Rick's idea to get into the outpost the only way they knew how, and that was by giving the Saviors exactly what they wanted. Gregory's head. They, of course, weren't going to kill Gregory, but they were going to kill walkers that looked like him and find a nearly identical one.

"Parker, I understand that Maggie's going, but she's also not as far along as you," Rick tried to explain to her.

"It's more dangerous in the first trimester," Parker argued defensively, staring down at Rick from the top of the stairs. "I'm in the second trimester and everything is going perfectly, apart from the fact that I'm trapped inside these walls."

"It's because your-"

"I get that!" Parker shouted, and although there were others in the house, none of them left their rooms or quickly evacuated the house in fear of having to deal with her. "I understand, Rick. Believe me, I do! But believe me when I tell you that I'm going crazy here. Going out with you and Daryl was the first time I felt completely alive in months, and after everything that happened, i need to get out of here. Please let me come with you."

"You know I can't go along with this," Rick ran his hand over his face, feeling bad for her. "What did Daryl say?"

"No," She ground out. "But I was fine when we went out last time, and I've been fine ever since. I know how to take care of myself. I'm the best chance you have besides Sasha, so let me go. I'll stay away from the action unless you need help. I'm desperate, Rick. Just let me tag along."

"Fine," Rick sighed.

"I'm sick of being in this house because I feel like I'm going insane and I need to get out before I lose my mind and- wait, what'd you say?" She pinched her eyebrows together, wanting to make sure she heard him clearly.

"You can come," Rick gave in, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Obviously I can't stop you, and like you said, you're your own person. As long as you're careful."

"Always am," Parker stated, her entire demeanor changing. "I'll be fine, Rick." If everything went as planned, Parker wouldn't be needed for anything other than standing guard outside the outpost while the rest of the group entered. She joined them by the RV, and although Daryl was upset when he saw she was coming, he couldn't help but feel relieved that she was there at the same time. No one knew what was going to happen, so having her there calmed him down a bit.

They spent the day away from Alexandria, calling out to walkers with their vehicle horns. The group split into pairs and trios to search the woods, and Parker and Maggie ended up together. Although they found no walkers that looked like Gregory, being in the forests again with a rifle in her hands was a pleasant feeling. As strange as that sounded. They picked out a walker as they searched, and when they returned to the group later that day, they discovered that their mission was successful. They had four walker heads who looked like Gregory, and when Jesus picked the closest-looking one, worried that the nose was a little different, Rick solved the problem by punching the walker's face several times.

After that, it was just a matter of heading to the compound. While Andy moved forward to gain the Saviors' trust and recover his kidnapped friend, the rest of the group waited in the shadows. Before Daryl could leave Parker grabbed his hand. "Hey," She whispered. "I love you. Be careful." He sent her a smile.

"I love you." The two shared a fleeting kiss before Daryl left with Rick, who also received a warning from Parker to be careful. She watched from behind the fence, leaning against the RV with Maggie and Carol at her side as the group infiltrated the complex. It was clear that Carol was completely against Maggie and Parker being there in their conditions, which was why she had stayed behind with them to stand guard. It seemed like hours, and Parker was just hoping that things went smoothly for those who were inside. And it seemed like things were until the alarm began to blare.

"Well, that doesn't sound good," Parker said immediately.

"They're in trouble."

"Stay here," Carol demanded, making her way toward the building.

"We're goin' with you," Maggie said as she and Parker prepared to follow Carol.

"I said stay here," She stopped them.

"No," Parker refused, already walking past her.

"Damn it, Parker," Carol snapped, grabbing her arm. "Stop."

"I have to go!" She whispered loudly. "I have to. Rick and Daryl are in there."

"No, you don't and you aren't," Carol replied, shaking her head. "You don't have to."

"Yes, we do," Maggie joined in.

"What the hell do you mean? You two aren't doing anything!" Carol told them, trying to keep them from putting themselves in harm's way. "What the hell were you thinking? Coming here in the first place."

"What are we supposed to do?" Maggie asked her.

"You're supposed to be someone else!" Carol yelled at them.

"We have to help," Parker muttered, looking down. "And like I told Rick this morning 'I can make my own decisions'. They need our help in there." Carol walked past Parker and Maggie and killed the walker that had heard them. Parker had her knife in her hands, and Carol's eyes landed on the weapon before looking at them both.

"You two are staying here," Carol ordered quietly. Parker's eyes widened when she saw Carol pull out her gun, and for a split second, she thought it was being pointed at her. Then she heard the rustling of the trees, turning to see a man emerging from the woods behind them, a determined look on his face. He pulled out his own gun, raising it to point it at Parker, who now held her gun in her hands. Before he could pull the trigger, Carol shot him in the arm and he fell to the ground, letting out a cry of pain. "Damn it! Maggie, let's go!" Carol hissed, knowing that the gunshot alerted others of their whereabouts. "Parker, come on!" Maggie walked closer to the man and aimed her gun at his head.

"Not until it's done."

"Maggie," Parker said slowly. She heard a click and then felt the cold metal of the barrel of a gun against her temple, followed by a woman's voice.

"Stop! Or she dies."

"Maggie," Parker repeated, with more urgency in her tone.

"Guns.. knives on the ground. Right now!" The woman behind Parker demanded. Parker threw down her gun and knife, raising her hands so that they knew she didn't have anything else. An older woman stared at Maggie for a moment.

"Nice jacket," She commented.

"For a murderous bitch," Added another.

"Well, we'll take it off her before we shoot her," Said the one behind Parker.

"This doesn't have to end badly," Parker stated, her voice steady. "We can work this out."

"Shut up, bitch," She snapped, jabbing the gun against her head again.

"Alright! Alright," Parker said sharply. "And I was just trying to make sure things didn't go badly for you because you're making a big mistake."

"We're the ones with the guns. So, I suggest you shut up." The lady warned.

"Are you really going to shoot a pregnant woman?" Parker raised an unconvinced eyebrow.

"If that's what it takes to make you shut up." She snapped. Those were the last words shared before they played the waiting game. Morning came, the attack on the outpost was over and the shooting had stopped. The alarm stopped shortly after it had started, so Parker, Maggie, and Carol spent the night in the woods, surrounded by people with guns constantly being pointed at their heads. Suddenly, gunshots echoed through the trees and the redhead with the binoculars gasped, jumping to her feet. "The hell was that?"

"Probably more of your people dying," Parker muttered quietly under her breath.

"It's Primo," She answered her own question. "Damn it, they've got him. Give me the walkie." The man Carol had shot the night before handed the redhead a walkie-talkie.

"Babe, happening?" She ignored him, pressing the button on the walkie.

"Lower your gun, prick. You, with the Colt Python." Rick. If he was there that meant the others had to be too. Unless some had died during the shootout. "All of you lower your weapons right now." The redhead ordered.

"Come on out. Let's talk," Rick's voice came through the walkie-talkie.

"How many we got?" The older woman asked, wanting to know if they could just kill them to get their guy back.

"Eight in sight," She answered back. "Too many."

"No, we can handle 'em. We took more." The injured man commented. The redhead clicked on the walkie again, staring at them through the leaves.

"We're not coming out, but we will talk," She eyed the three hostages. "Names." Parker didn't even bother looking at her. "Names!"

"I'm Maggie, she's Carol and that's Parker," Maggie answered for the rest of them.

"We've got a Carol, a Maggie, and a Parker," She spoke into the walkie-talkie. "I'm thinking that's something you want to chat about. Now, we're gonna work this out right now. And it's going to go our way."

"You can see we have one of yours," Rick stated. "We'll trade."

"I'm listening."

"First I want to talk to Maggie, Carol, and Parker," Rick answered. "Make sure they're all right." The redhead eyed them all carefully.

"I'm going to put you on. You say you're fine. I'll know if you try anything else." She moved the walkie in front of Carol, giving her the go-ahead to talk.

"Rick, It's Carol. I'm- I'm fine, but-" She pulled it away with a scoff and held it in front of Maggie.

"Now you."

"Rick, it's Maggie. We're both okay. We'll figure thi-"

"Shut up!" She spat, moving the walkie in front of Parker. She glared at the lady standing over her before speaking.

"Rick, I'm fine." She said into it, moving her head away.

"You have your proof. Let's talk." The woman turned away from them, going back to her spot so she could watch Rick and the others.

"Alright. This is the deal right here," Rick started. "Let 'em go, you can have your guy back and live."

"Three for one... that's not much of a trade." The redhead pointed out.

"Didn't you hear him? Technically it's three for five," Parker explained to the four of them. "He just said he wouldn't kill you."

"You don't have another choice," Rick replied. "Or you would have already done something about it already."

"Paula, we have to get him back," The guy insisted not wanting to leave Primo in the hands of those who had just murdered their entire outpost.

"Primo can take care of himself," The redhead- Paula- replied, not an ounce of care towards him.

"He can patch me up," He argued. "I need him, thanks to that bitch." He directed an angry stare at Carol as he spoke. "You lost your balls, Paula. You should've shot her in the head so they could hear her die."

"If you could just shut up. I'll solve this," Paula snapped at him, pacing in a small circle.

"Then make the deal or we'll go in." He fought back, tired of doing absolutely nothing.

"She said shut up. So shut it!" The older woman shushed him. "You should be glad she doesn't have a sack of gonads to trip over."

"What?" Parker repeated silently, completely lost in translation.

"Look, I know you're talking it over," Rick's voice said over the walkie. "It's a fair trade. Just come out, we do this.. we all walk away."

"Smug prick," The youngest of the three women mumbled bitterly. "He must think we're stupid."

"That's a good thing," Paula responded, glancing back at her.

"Do we have a deal?"

"I'll get back to you," Paula said in reply, attaching the walkie-talkie to her belt. Parker slowly stood up from where she sat between Carol and Maggie, keeping her hands still slightly raised above her head.

"You know they won't let you live." She started to say and Paula grabbed her gun from its holster.

"Shut it."

"No. Listen to me," Parker demanded. "They outnumber you, and I promise you that unless you give them something, they won't let you live. They'll kill you as soon as the deal is made. I know these people. Trust me when I say that the best thing for you is to let one of us go. A show of good faith, so to speak."

"Why would I do that?" Paula questioned her, thinking this was some sort of trap.

"Didn't I just give you a reason?" Parker raised an eyebrow. "Are you really that suicidal?" Paula considered Parker's words for a moment before pressing the button on the walkie-talkie.

"We'll give you one of them and in exchange, you don't kill us once we make the trade."

"Why would we agree to that?" Rick asked suspiciously.

"Parker... is very persuasive," Paula said in return. "She claims you'll kill us either way once the trade is made, so if we give you one of them, you let us live. This is a one-time offer, moron. Otherwise, I'll have to shoot Parker in the head for being a pain in the ass."

"Don't fuckin' touch her!" A voice yelled over the walkie that wasn't Rick. It was Daryl.

"If you give us one of them, we won't hurt you," Rick agreed to the terms. "I promise, as long as the other two arent harmed."

"Which one do you want, asshole?" Paula asked, eyeing the three. There was a pause in which Parker could imagine the group arguing over who to save. The look on Carol's face told them she knew that she wouldn't be the first one they'd choose. Mainly because both Parker and Maggie were pregnant and much more vulnerable than her.

"Maggie or Parker," Rick finally answered after what felt like forever. Paula nodded at Carol.

"I guess it's your lucky day. You get to go."

"What? But they said Parker or Maggie," Carol stuttered slightly.

"Do you really thing I'd let him choose?" Paula asked with an amused laugh. "He never had a say in this to begin with. It seems like Maggie and Parker are more important than you, so you're free to go. Don't worry, we'll be long gone before you get to your friends." Parker looked at Carol, sending her a quick nod.

"We'll be fine. Make sure to give them hell for not saying your name." Carol hesitated, but Maggie gave her an assuring smile.

"Just go, Carol. While you got the chance."

"Tick tock, bitch," Paula rushed her, aiming her gun at Carol. "Your window is closing."

"Carol, go!" Parker shouted at her. "Tell them that we'll figure this out." Paula gestured to the dark-haired girl.

"Accompany her to the entrance of the outpost and then meet us on the path." Then Parker's jacket was forced over her head and the world around her went dark.
