Losing Control

When Glenn had returned from his run, he was down two people. Aiden and Noah had died. They had both died that day, and Glenn had instantly told her that Nicholas was responsible for Noah's death. Rosita, Abraham, and Glenn had to get the knife out of her hands, and the three of them had to protect Nicholas from Parker. Glenn did everything in his power to stop her from going to his house and killing him for what he had done to Noah. Although they hadn't known Noah for very long, he was a great kid and definitely didn't deserve to die. He was sweet and Parker enjoyed his company, even if they rarely spent time together. Even though he barely knew her, he was always excited to talk about the baby, suggesting names and offering to find different paints and toys so that she could decorate the nursery.

He was too good for the world, and hearing about his death made her angry. She wanted revenge. Tara had been injured after a grenade went off and she had suffered a severe head injury. She was still unconscious, but they believed that they could stabilize her. Parker didn't really know how to process what happened, because it seemed like everything was starting to go wrong, just like it always did. She didn't sleep that night, too distraught and worried to even consider it. She sat with Carl all night, who had become friends with Noah and was grieving for him. Neither of them spoke, besides when Carl asked her to stay, she didn't hesitate to hug him, trying to stay collected for the sake of her nephew. The next morning, Parker knocked on her brother's door after breakfast.

"Can I stay with you today?"

"Are you okay?" Rick walked out of his room and she followed him, nodding.

"It's just that... Daryl's not back yet and I don't... I don't wanna be alone." She stuttered, taking the stairs two at a time. "For the sake of the people around me."

"Yeah, I'm going to see Deanna now." Rick held the door open for her. They had checked her office first, that's usually where you'd find Deanna. But they found her in the cemetery, standing before her son's grave. Parker saw three more graves and sighed, looking down. Only four. If only they had the luck to suffer that amount of loss, maybe they would still be the same people they were before all this happened. "I'm sorry for what happened," Rick apologized to her, stopping at her side. "How are you holding up?"

"I'm not." Deanna answered quietly, not taking her eyes off Aidens empty grave.

"We have a problem with Pete," Rick informed her, thinking it'd be best to divert her attention to something other than her dead son.

"I hoped it'd get better," Deanna muttered quietly. Parker looked at her with wide eyes.

"You knew?" Deanna simply nodded her head. "And you assumed with time things would just fix themselves?"

"It hasn't gotten better. It won't." Rick told her, anger behind his eyes.

"Pete's a surgeon," Deanna told them. "He's saved lives. He might be saving Tara's life." When she looked at the two, it was obvious she had been crying nonstop since she had found out Aiden had died. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she just didn't look like herself.

"He's beating his wife," Rick reminded her. "We have to stop it."

"How?"

"We separate them," Rick said, having listened to Parker the night before. "We'll tell him that's how it'll be from now on."

"And what happens when he doesn't want to do that?" Deanna looked back at them, waiting for one of the two to answer her concerns.

"It's not up to him anymore," Parker declared. "He had a chance to right himself. It's not his choice anymore."

"So what happens?" Deanna pressed, stepping towards them.

"I kill him," Rick replied casually. "We kill him."

"We don't kill people," Deanna stated as she turned to look at him. "This is civilization, Rick."

"Warning someone to stop or die... that is civilized nowadays," Rick argued quietly and Deanna scoffed, turning away.

"Oh," She nodded, kissing her teeth.

"So what?" Parker raised an eyebrow. "Do we just let him hit her? Let him get away with possibly killing her? Her kids?"

"No," Deanna breathed out. "We exile him. If it comes to that."

"We do that, we don't know when he comes back and what he does to them," Rick instantly disagreed with her. "Letting him go makes this place vulnerable. You really want to wait till someone in that tower has to take care of it? And that's if we're lucky."

"We are not executing anyone," Deanna said loudly. "Don't ever suggest it again. That sort of thinking doesn't belong here."

"People die now, Deanna," Parker said calmly. "That's how this world works now."

"They die. There is times like this you can decide who and when. Or it can be decided for you." Rick added on.

"It already was.." Deanna whispered sadly, looking at her son's grave. "I wouldn't kill you. I'd just send you away."

"Sending someone away who doesn't know shit about the world beyond those walls is the same as killing them." Parker hissed, nodding at Rick as she walked away. As Rick walked alongside her, she barely said anything or looked at him. "You care about Jessie, don't you?" She asked out of the blue as they roamed the town.

"Yeah," Rick answered with a small nod. "She doesn't deserve what's happening to her. Neither do her kids."

"No, I mean you really care about her." She emphasized, finally looking at him. "You have... feelings for her, right?"

"No."

"Rick, it's okay," Parker assured him, placing a hand on his arm. She knew him better than he knew himself at times. "You don't have to be afraid to admit it. Lori... Lori wouldn't want you to be afraid to move on. To move forward."

"I don't want to forget her," He admitted.

"You won't forget her," Parker said quietly. "She was your wife. You loved her. But it's okay to move on."

"I don't know how," Rick told her, checking around for anything out of the ordinary. "She... she's married."

"Rick, I know. But if she makes the decision to leave him, she'll need someone. You have to show her that you care. Before it's too late."

"You're right," Rick sighed, giving her a quick side hug. "I'll see you later."

"See you later, Rick," She raised her hand in goodbye, continuing to walk the town. As she walked down the street, tugging at a loose thread on her shirt, she heard footsteps coming towards her. She looked up to see who it was and saw Nicholas walking towards her, doing his best to avoid making eye contact with her, but it was too late. Marching towards Nicholas, Parker pushed him hard when she saw the faintest smirk on his face. "Do you have something you want to say?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Noah died because of you!" Parker snapped at him and pushed him back again. "You couldn't follow simple instructions and it cost Noah his life! I hope you realize that. And I hope those memories haunt you for the rest of your pitiful and pathetic life."

"I do," Nicholas mumbled, looking at the ground. "But it was a stupid thing-" He was interrupted when Parker punched him in the jaw, the force of the hit knocking him to the ground. She watched him kneel on the road for a moment before crouching down in front of him.

"I want to kill you for what you did." Parker whispered, her voice low. "I would kill you if I didn't care so much about my family staying here. Noah was my family too. And you got him killed. You killed him, you son of a bitch," He continued to look at the road beneath him which infuriated her even more. "Hey!" She spat, grabbing a fistful of his hair, and tilting his head up so he'd look at her. "It should have been you." she went to hit him again but a hand grabbed the back of her arm.

"Parker!" Glenn shouted, and then she felt an arm around her waist, pulling her back and lifting her away from Nicholas.

"No!" Parker screamed. "No! He got Noah killed! He deserves to die!" She fought, trying to pull their arms off her as she backpedaled to keep herself steady. "He killed him! He was just a kid and he died because of this piece of shit!" She jerked around as she tried to get out of his grasp, but he had a good hold on her.

"Parker! Parker, calm down!"

"Parker!" Another voice called out, and then Rosita joined the commotion. She took in the scene that was unfolding in front of her.

"What's happening?!" Rosita practically yelled.

"This psycho bitch attacked me," Nicholas spat at them, standing up. "Out of nowhere! For no reason!" She yelled angrily, his words only making her want to kill him more.

"You know exactly why I punched you, asshole!" Parker shouted, she broke free of Glenn's grip and stopped just a few inches from Nicholas. "You will never go beyond those walls again, do you understand me? You are finished. And if I ever see you putting anyone else in danger, I will kill you. You will die a slow and painful death and you will feel every bit of it just like Noah did." Parker turned and walked away, wiping angry tears from her eyes.

She didn't know where that rush of adrenaline or the anger in her veins had come from, but seeing Nicholas after hearing that he was responsible for killing Noah had triggered something inside her. Something that had been waiting to be unleashed for a while. Whatever it was, it was dangerous and it scared Parker because of what she felt when she hit Nicholas. She wanted to continue punching him. She wanted to make him bleed and hit him again and again until he begged her to stop. She wanted him to feel the same pain Noah must have felt when he was torn apart. She wanted him dead. The thought terrified her.

Parker had never been one to openly murder anyone other than those who deserved it, so this new anger within her that filled her veins like poison was terrifying. Maybe she was losing control? Maybe she was finally going crazy, the same way Shane had. After all, she had lost so many people that it was a miracle she had survived this long without losing her mind. She was terrified of the thoughts in her head because she didn't want to lose herself. If she allowed herself to succumb to those thoughts, she was no better than the dead who tried to kill her. She needed time to calm down, so that is what she spent the next few hours doing.

She sat by the pond for hours, alone with her thoughts, trying to fight the nausea that was working its way up from her stomach. That and the thought of murdering Nicholas was still floating around in her head. She kept telling herself that that wasn't who she was. She couldn't allow herself to become the people they tried so hard to avoid. She couldn't lose what humanity she had left. After a little while longer of staring at the pond, Parker decided to go to Jessie's house to check on her. She immediately knew something was wrong when she saw Jessie run out to the porch when she spotted her.

"Parker!" Jessie cried out with tears in her eyes. "It's Rick!" Parker forgot about her problems and ran up the porch steps, barely making it to the door before the window to her right shattered, Pete and Rick flying out of it. She let out a startled yell as they landed on the ground, watching as they fought with each other, trying to hit one another while both trying to defend themselves.

"Rick!" Parker shouted, "Rick, stop!" It didn't help. They ended up in the middle of the street, rolling and exchanging punches. Rick was covered in blood and Parker ran forward trying to intervene. "Rick!" Parker yelled with tears in her as he choked Pete. "Rick, stop! Please!" When Pete took control of the fight and got Rick to the ground, Parker ran forward to pull him away. The moment her hands landed on Pete's jacket, he swung his arm back and elbowed Parker in the face. "Oh, fuck!" She stumbled backward and almost ended up falling before Jessie and Carl grabbed her arms to keep her up. She watched as Carl ran forward trying to talk to his dad but was harshly shoved back by him instead. She looked at the two grown men fighting like children before running towards her nephew. "Carl!" She kept him close for the remainder of the fight. Rick grabbed Pete, blood covering over half his face as Deanna rushed over.

"Stop it! Stop it right now!" She ordered.

"You touch them again and I'll kill you," Rick hissed the threat in Pete's ear.

"Damn it, Rick!" Deanna screamed. "I said stop!" Rick sat up, pulling out a gun.

"Back up," Parker muttered, pushing Carl and the girl, Enid, he'd been hanging around back as the safety clicked off.

"Or what? You gonna kick me out?"

"Put that gun down, Rick," Deanna warned, her hands slightly held out in front of herself.

"You still don't get it," Rick said loudly, directing it towards to forming crowd of people. "None of you do! We know what needs to be done and we do it. We're the ones who live! You, you just sit and plan and hesitate." He waved the gun around carelessly as he spoke. "You pretend like you know when you don't!"

"Rick, stop it," Parker pleaded, making sure Carl and Enid were behind her.

"You wish things weren't what they are," Rick continued on. "Well, you want to live. You want this place to stay standing. You're way of doing things is done! Things don't get better because you... you want them to. Starting right now, we have to live in the real world. We have to control who lives here."

"That's never been more clear to me than it is right now," Deanna said deeply.

"Me?" Rick asked, gesturing to himself as he began to laugh. "Me? You- you mean... you mean me? Your way is going to destroy this place. It's gonna get people killed. It's already gotten people killed. And I'm not gonna stand by and just let it happen. If you don't fight, you die. I'm not gonna stand by and-" Michonne had been sneaking up on him for a good while during his speech. She slowly stepped toward him before punching him in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious, silencing the ramblings of the man who had apparently lost his mind.
